View Full Version : M22 Date Code VS. TT Car Date....HELP

Can anyone here verify if these date codes are compatible???

Trim Tag: 04B (second week of April)
Trans. Stamping: P0D20C (20th day of April)

Engine code is prior to TT date.

Could a trans possibly have a post dated stamp? Does the M22 have any effect on availability?

I need some help with this as all other stampings & casting dates seem correct & original.

Thanks guys. Dicky <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/flag.gif

No, all parts would be on hand before the car would be sequenced for build.

Is the cars partial VIN stamped in the trans? One possibility is the trans should have been stamped April 2nd which was a Wednesday instead of April 20th which was a Sunday. In that case, the date lines up nicely with the body build date.

Thanks guys for the responses. I have yet to see photos of the trans. stamping from the seller.
I have seen the TT &amp; the eng. stamping in real photos.
The trans. numbers were just transcribed to me until a picture is available, so there could be an error.
The car's VIN is also correctly stamped on the trans. But without pics????? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

70 z-28 white, with black stripes and black standard interior. 4.10 or 3.73 rear? RS car? Sounds like it is a nice looking car. How about a few pictures?

I like it. Tag looks good. I don't like that he put the ignition instruction sleeve on the sun visor. That was a 69 thing to show you how to use the new column mounted ignition cylinder.

Why do you have this opinion? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

Just took a look at your previous post for the car and the link to the photos. Seems like a very nice car and very well optioned. My first car that I bought in 1980 back in high school was a 70 Z-28 which I still own 33 years later, so I am partial to these cars. Mine is very similarly equipped to this one you are looking at and has a &quot;28.10&quot; stamping on the TT.

Even if the trans stamping is correct as the seller conveyed to you, (April 20) I think it is close enough to the body build date that it could very well be original to the car. The second week of April could be as late as Friday April 11th, so that would be 9-days prior to the transmission assembly date, so while somewhat unusual would not be out of the realm of possibilities.

Good luck.

Thanks COPO, I will have photos soon to see if it was a transposed
number by seller. Thanks you folks &amp; SYC for the help, I will probably be asking more of the
forum.

It looks like a good car but It is odd that a guy who lives in Knoxville Tenn. only advertised on Craigslist in Dallas and not in his home area?

Dicky

Mark, yes I am some what in agreement, but as I talked with him about
his business he says he likes to advertise in larger markets like Dallas &amp; Atlanta <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

As a side note, is there a way to see the <span style="color: #FF0000">&quot;hidden VIN&quot;</span> without taking the vehicle apart??
<span style="color: #000099">I have somewhat of an idea of its location but I'm not clear on it's exact location. ANY HELP
with that would be appreciated when I go to inspect.</span>

I thought it was odd because Dallas was the only Craigslist area he advertised in. I sent him an e-mail back in November from the Dallas ad and never received detailed pics so I was skeptical. I would think a guy would also advertise locally to have the car inspected in person much easier. It looks like a good car but I would certainly have a thorough inspection. It was priced cheap enough that you would have to wonder, especially for a guy who has seems to deal in cars. Good luck.

You can pretty easily check one of the hidden vins by removing the cowl panel. Can't remember maybe 4 screws need to be removed. There is a chance of scratching some paint when the panel is being removed, so you'd better be willing to buy the car at that point and make that the final check. The other hidden Vin would be extremely difficult to check on an assembled car and no seller is going to let you do that without a large non-refundable deposit in place. The TT looks good. One of the Camaro sites probably has diagrams to show you the hidden vin locations.

Dicky, if you haven't been here yet, it's a good site for second gen info. www.nastyz28.com (http://www.nastyz28.com)

Thanks COPO &amp; Tony, I have been all over NastyZ28 with some great results.
I have also searched other sites with some great help.

Since the heater motor is so difficult to remove for access to a <span style="color: #FF0000"><span style="font-weight: bold">partial</span>,</span>
I was hoping that I would find the <span style="color: #FF0000"><span style="font-weight: bold">partial</span></span> under the cowl vent. but some where
I thought I had read that Fisher/GM did not do that on 70's.

I have seen a photo of a Blue Camaro with the heater <span style="color: #FF0000"><span style="font-weight: bold">partial</span></span> exposed and the cowl
screen open but do not recall the year, &amp; I can not relocate the forum in which I discovered it.

If you guys can confirm that there may be a <span style="color: #FF0000"><span style="font-weight: bold">partial</span></span> under the cowl screen then that would help me.

I will also be checking the date code on the sub-frame as an added measure.

Thanks so much to all of you &amp; SYC. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/CharleySucks.gif

NOW I'M GETTING DESPERATE.....

I'm looking at this 70 Camaro....

Some of you say the TT looks good.... (not fake)

The engine stamping could be correct but have yet to find a partial S/N on block....

The trans. has all the S/N correct BUT the date lags from TT date.....

The rear end should have a COO or CRE stamp but instead has a PY1209G2 which makes it out of a 1st Gen.
Camaro or 70's Nova as a 10 bolt with 2.56 - 3.42 gears??? (it does have a 12 bolt carrier)......

HELP HELP HELP.... Please give me your take on this car and it's numbers &amp; value...

The engine stamp looks to have the &quot;T&quot; and &quot;B&quot; at different levels. Can you post a bigger picture?

Here are some larger pics (I hope)

My latest concern is the rear axle???? Why would you take out a 12 bolt
that came with the car to install this coded axle. (unless you destroyed
it racing???)

ANY IDEAS? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

Anyone else think that stamp looks funky? Help the guy out. I know there are some experts here that can tell right away if it's a bad stamp or not.

The front characters used match the front gang loading used in Flint in March of '70 to a tee.

Im not liking that engine stamping. A better close up of that is needed.
Doesn't look right from what I see.

I do not like it either. But I think it is also likely original.

Kinda hard to make an evaluation on a stamp you can't see clearly.

Based upon what I can see it looks like an original stamping to me...screwed up but original. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif
