View Full Version : Nova interior questions

I finished phase 1 of the 69 Nova project. I could leave it at that, but it's really never "done"..... Been thinking about re-doing the interior. It's a basic standard bench seat black interior. It's in great shape, but the bench seat is a little soft and needs new foam, burlap etc. The seats also have a musty smell from age. I'm thinking of going to the deluxe interior, since I've already completely changed the drivetrain, and originality is a thing of the past with this project.

1st question: Is there any difference between the standard and deluxe interior, besides the seat covers, and the door/rear panels?

2nd question: Who makes the best interiors for the Novas? I'm more familiar with Chevelle interiors. The only interior supply company that I could find for Nova's is PUI. I don't have a problem with PUI, just wondering if there's other choices. I don't want to go with anything except a factory interior. No custom seats, etc....

3rd question: The glass in the car will also be changed at some point. Anyone have a favorite glass supplier they'd recommend. I'm hoping there's clear glass available???I've used Tri City for my other cars, but I've never bought Nova glass.

How about bucket seats for the front if you are going that route? I would call Tri-City and ask about some original type etched glass. They may carry that for a nova. Does Legendary in NY make interior covers/door panels for novas? I would try them. Musty smell is the best part!

There are arm rests on the rear seat door panels.

Sam, Tri City doesn't sell clear glass, as far as I know, and Legendary doesn't sell Nova interiors, unless I missed something on their web site. I think I want to stay with the bench seat.

Ken, thanks for the rear arm rest info. I didn't know the deluxe interior had arm rests. Now, where to get them? It looks like they're not reproduced. Anyone have a set, or an idea where I could start looking?

I just found arm rest repro's. They look pretty good in the picture.

Good luck Bill. You will be redoing everything again. Ha!! Gives you/me all of us something to do in the winter. Clear glass is tough to get I understand. I went with tinted in front and back when I redid my camaro 12 years ago. Kept the original side glass and had the new stuff etched with the date. Looks good! Novas seem to be 3rd. on the pecking order but I love em and think they should really get more respect.

I think the company is called Auto City Glass in MN? They will put the date code on for you as well. They sell clear glass too.

I was getting ready to ask who is Tri City glass since I had never heard of them and then Marlin came in and said it should be Auto City glass, who I have heard of. So, is it Auto City glass that we are talking about? Reason I ask I am getting ready to order glass from Auto City, but if there is someone else I should consider I am all ears.

Thanks,

Dave

Yes, it's Auto City Classics.(https://www.autocityclassic.com/)....I was mixing it up with Tri City Plating, that does chrome bumpers. I've used Auto City Classics for glass a number of times, but my other cars had tinted glass. My understanding is, they don't sell clear glass, but I'll look into that.

I'm not concerned with date coded glass on this car, like my others. It's a hot rod, but I may end up doing it anyway.

I had to ask them specifically for 'clear' glass, they had to search for it - but they found me both windshields, in clear, and then put the date codes on them for me. The date code service was $75 per windshield.

Tom,
Didn't the deluxe interior 69s have white stripes on the front and rear panels while the 70 models have wood trim on those panels ????

Bill, when I replaced my windshield for my Chevelle, I needed clear glass. PS Auto Glass here in Janesville actually had it in stock. They etched it for the correct date codes. I am supposed to call him tomorrow for myself....I will ask him if he can get what you need for your Nova.

Tinted is easier, probably cheaper and nicer in my opinion.

I like tinted glass too Sam, but this car is more of a basic no frills Nova....at least it use to be be. I think the clear glass has more of an old school look.

you'll never know it. I have dated and shaded glass in the front and back of my camaro with the original clear side glass and it is fine. best part is when you are driving and looking thru a nice new, clear shaded front glass. easier on my old eyes! besides your nova is not an original numbers car it is a Bill Rose nova. Something to have fun with and hammer when you need to.

I went to PS Auto Glass today. I got a quote for Albert but they were having a little trouble trying to find clear glass for your Nova Bill. I will contact you as soon as I hear something.
