I've just ticked over 3 months on the wait from SMS for my Chevelle's seat material and judging by the respose I recieved today, I won't have it anytime soon! Is this par for the course with these guys? I wonder who holds the world record for waiting time? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/thumbsdown.gif

I may hold that record. I ordered and paid ($1,000) for a set of 68 Chevelle Deluxe 300 front and rear door panels. After waiting 21 months and countless calls, the panels arrived and they were the worst fitting panels i had ever seen. The car is a 2 door post and the door panels were definitely for a hard top. I called and really got the run around. Finally I called and got a guy who actually told me I didn't know how to install them. I don't have to tell you guys the difference in door panels, but he certainly didn't seem to know. When i tried to install the rears, the chrome strip that runs along the rear and matches up with the front was off by about 3/4 of an inch. I took a lot of pictures and sent them to SMS. I was told to send them back as he fired someone for quality issues. I waited another 8 1/2 months only to have the exact door panels returned. They even had the blur painters tape and my writing still on them where i pointed out the issues. They went back again and 6 months after that, I received a box with only one metal top rail for the front and one top rail for the rear. The instruction was to see if these rails fit my car. They are still sitting here and SMS has my $1,000. I wouldn't recommend SMS to wrap a pair of socks in a gift box.

I sent the door panels for my 69 Chevelle 300 Deluxe SS Post Car to them for refinishing a few years ago. I called in advance and was advised it would take a few months so there was no shock regarding the wait time. If I did not know the time horizon at the beginning I would also have been p'd at the length of time to get them redone.

Nick and Damien,
I'm sorry to hear about your experiences. I have never dealt with them but their customer service and service in general seems like bulls**t.

They had/have product that others didn't/don't. -NOS and/or correct repro. I did ok with them. They took long and told me up front but probably took twice that after a few contacts. Items they sent were wrong and they sent me pre-paid return label(s). Corrected product was great. I was at the mindset (and still am) that I'd rather wait 1yr+ for the correct items than work with an incorrect, poor quality repro and be unhappy with the results. ...and I viewed many other options that were inferior.

It's at the stage where I wish I could do the same Kenny. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find anyone else who can supply both the vinyl and cloth that I need, which is 762 meduim blue for a '70 Chevelle bench seat.

Would anyone have a direct line or extension number for anyone in their organisation? I have rang their office a couple of times and haven't been able to talk to anyone but a machine! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Dan.
We have a really good muscle car only show coming up in May, which I am lucky enough to have been invited to be a part of, and figured that when I placed my order in the first week of November, I was leaving myself more than enough time to be ready. Fool me. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif

I was actually dealing with Doug initally then got handballed to another guy Eric, and then the wall went up. I'll keep trying though. Don't have much choice as they are the only one I have been able to find who reproduce the fabric I need not to mention the fact that they charged my credit card the day I placed the order.

Sounds like "the hobby" needs some new reliable alternatives for these products <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif
Wasn't there a place in Texas that handled similar stuff??
I think there is also a place down south Miss or Ala..not sure?
I went online and found a few places

Thanks Tom. I am going to send these guys an email and see if they have what I need. I'm past caring about the money I've spent with SMS and just want the material.

I had a bad experience with a company years ago and after a shoot out on the phone about the promises of a refund, I got on a plane with two of my "friends" that evening and was at their door in Florida the next morning. Airfare was cheap and I was tired of being treated like a jerkoff. I got my money back before leaving..........

Just stumbled across this thread. I also got sucked into the SMS spin cycle. Same experience as all of the others; I was looking for black comfortweave material for my 69Z and they supposedly had original NOS available. Over the next six months of hand to hand combat and after finally reporting them to every available consumer agency and my CC company, I finally got a refund. If they were the last company on earth I still wouldn't do business with them. See the full blog on http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=195019 with pics.

Cars say they have something but its not an exact match. I have asked for a sample.
Also got a reply back from SMS today, from a different guy, although the message is still the same as it has been since January, "We are still waiting for it to come in from the mill". <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif

I just read this thread. All I have to say is that I am happy with what I got and have, just not how long it took. They wound up giving me material for free. I waited 8 months for door panels that aren't the greatest, and a year for fabric and vynil. 1970-71 756 dark/medium blue Nova.
Damien
05-31-2014, 12:58 AM
Jed, I think you are correct. Their material from what I can tell is very good. Certainly the samples I received, within a week of my enquiry I might add, were an excellent match, but their service is a disgrace. Given the fact that I have been unable to find anyone else thus far that reproduces the fabric, the vinyl is available thru many suppliers, and I am trying to keep my car the way it came from the factory, had they told me it could take up to a year to get the material, I would have still ordered the material and waited as I don't have another option. But the fact that they string you along like a dog and pony show and basically lie to you is a joke. Hopefully carsinc can help?
