Hello Fellow Muscle Car Lovers.

BIG NEWS <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

This year I will be setting up a Showcase of 1969 Chevelles and El Camino(s), with the hottest 396 available...........the 396/375 horsepower L78 with the L89 aluminum cylinder head option.

MY GOAL: is to gather 12, Fully Documented, Real Deal, Best of the Best, L89 Chevelles/El Camino(s) to highlight the very special, very rare (400 made) L89 option. I plan to include at least one of each body style which could be ordered with the SS 396/375 hp L78 option and the L89 aluminum heads.

MY DREAM: is to find L89's in every possible condition, such as Survivor, Restored, Day 2, and Vintage race car.

MY DREAM OF DREAMS: is to find a ratty, filthy, neglected, never seen before by anyone but the original owner, BARN FIND L89.

Now my request to the Muscle car community.......................please help me find 12 of these rare beasts. (I have feelers out to several owners, and will share as soon as they are officially registered)

Please: Post replies, PM me, E-Mail me, or call me at (519) 846-0598, with any leads on L89 1969 Chevelles. Don't be shy, and please don't assume I'll know about certain famous cars. I would hate to miss one sitting out in broad daylight.

Ryan

SPECIAL DISPLAYS;

Chevrolet L89 Showcase; Most of us know all about Chevy’s hot 396/375 horsepower L78, but did you know they also offered an aluminum head version? This very special gathering will feature only real highly documented examples of Chevrolet’s hottest 396 powered muscle machines and Corvettes.

I am specifically taking care of 1969 Chevelles and El Camino(s), feel free to contact me or Bob Ashton directly about any Chevrolet L89's.

And looks like our good friend Rick Nelson may have a particular 1970 L89 Chevelle for us also.

Thanks go out to Ryan Weaver for taking the lead on this one and also to Dan Vasic for jumping in to assist.

Now...let's see if we can make this the largest gathering of documented real-deal L89's ever gathered under one roof. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/youguysrock.gif

You can probably get a couple guys in Florida to help you "build" whatever you want.

Kidding of course. Great way to showcase some serious muscle.

I hear what you are saying, but I will keep the door open for a second 1970 L89, just in case a never seen before, dosumented, one owner, convertible shows up at your shop for certification. (I have very very high goals and aspirations for this Showcase, like everything at MCACN, more/bigger/better/rarer/you have got to be kidding me, than you can imagine)

When I told Ryan 10-12 cars in this display would be perfect, I think he thought I was nuts, (OK, I am; lol) but he agreed to take on the challenge... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

My hat is off to Ryan along with PostSedan Dan, along with all of the owners who will be joining us.

As I often say, close your eyes for a moment and visualize this one... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/drool.gif

I have enjoyed preparing this display very much, and have had enjoyed 100% support from you, Dan, and Vicki. Most of all I have enjoyed meeting/getting to know the owners of these great cars. (I call them SUPERCARS I don't care what the definition may be)

I have felt a little like a guy who gets to throw his first football at the superbowl, but my son Jamie provided some excellent advice from Star Wars. As per YODA:

Luke: All right, I'll give it a try.
Yoda: No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try.

Go stand in the end zone Bob!!!!!!!!!!!put your hands out!!!!!!!(This comment should read as humour as I don't know s### about football)

Ryan

PS: I have a couple more L89's in my sights..........and if you read my goals from DAY1 I want to have a rusty POS barn find L89 at MCACN........still nothing........come on guys need your help on this one!!!

L89 #4. Rick Nelson (Musclecar Restoration and Design, Inc) is bringing an Autumn Gold 1970 Chevelle, L78/L89. The owner is Michael Rothberg. Thanks Michael and Rick!!

The summer 2014 edition of Chevelle Chevy's Mid-Sized Muscle has a great article by Chuck Hanson about this "LIGHT-HEADED" 1970 L89 Chevelle. The L89 option was selected in error, one of 18 produced. A nice mistake if you ask me.

Thanks Ryan, just so no one is confused, we did not restore this car as it was restored by the previous owner Brian DeJongh and his friends. I only helped Brian with technical advice for several years while it was being restored and I am just helping my customer take care of the car while at the show.

Congrats go out to Kenny Pasco and Frank Arone, along with the owner of the Garnet Red 1969 Chevelle SS L89 convertible that took top honors at the recent Hemmmings Muscle Machines show this past weekend.

Yep...you'll be seeing this one, previously shown at MCACN "in progress" in all its finished glory, November 22-23. And as if that isn't enough, we will also have another '69 Chevelle SS L89 convertible, (as seen in the previous post)which is joining us from The Styles Family Collection out of Florida.

Some times we tend to get excited by the chrome or the paint or the numbers, or the rarity...........but I got one better than all that stuff...........

I have registered a Canadian........but not a 1969 model...........

My Dad is coming with me to MCACN 2014:-)

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2014/09/full-13277-16434-1.jpg

We have a lot of fun and do some pretty serious renovation projects together:-)

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2014/09/full-13277-16435-2.jpg

My Dad was concerned that he doesn't know all the codes or the production numbers, but I assured him there are thousands of guys just like him that filter through MCACN leaving with a huge smile and a little bit of recaptured youth to put a spring in their step that lasts till the following November.

When you stop by my display ask to show Ralph your favorite car at MCACN and share a few stories, he won't bore you with codes or production numbers but he might tell you about driving his Austin Healey home (Before kids) with a Christmas tree in it...

That's great Ryan! It will be just over a year since my dad passed (& 3 since mom passed) that I'll be at MCACN. He was truly the reason I am a Mopar guy (although I thoroughly enjoy all brands). In his place I have invited a couple of "older" friends who both grew up around these cars and drag racing from its' roots. Hope they both can make it.

Look what I found today - I went to visit my friend Bob at his restoration shop today - Real Deal one of 390 produced - 1969 L89 Corvette awaiting restoration :-)

Cortez Silver, L89 - M22 - 411`s....all original drive train.

I don't think she`ll be ready for 2014 MCACN`s - but she will be nice when finished.

Drum-roll....

Let's add another...and it is another good one!

I am pleased to announce the 1967 Ed Cole L89 Corvette Coupe will be joining us from Texas! This is an incredibly significant car with really interesting history.

This has to be the most diversified group of authentic L89's ever gathered under one roof. Yet another reason to join us, November 22-23!

Hi All

I am anxiously awaiting MCACN 2014.

First and formost, a big thank you to the owners and resprentatives of these great L89 cars and truck!

A close second is a huge thank you to Bob Ashton, Dan Vasic, and Vicki Ashton, for trusting in me and helping me along the way!

i made a decision a few years ago to get more involved in our hobby/passion we all love so much, I think this display is proof "Regular Guys" can have as much or more fun with Muscle Cars as anybody else!

Please introduce yourself and ask any questions you want. This group of owners have a tonne of knowledge about these rare cars.

Researching, gathering, e-mailing, calling, dreaming, thinking, organizing, and "Googling " this display has been a highlight of the entire year since MCACN 2013!!!!!!

Don't be shy, Say Hi!!

Yesterday was day 1 of Move in, it went very well!!

8 out of 10 L89 cars are in the display 2 more to go today plus signage, etc.

This display is like a mini car show in itself, but with MCACN there is another 500 plus rare cars to drool over!!

If you are on the fence about coming I would challenge any stay at home logic,if you have 5-6 hundred of the rarest finest Muscle Cars at home maybe you don't need to come..........................GET ON A BUS PLANE TRAIN CAR BYCYCLE and "Come on down" (or up for you southerners)

Today was an L89 day!!! That is a term of endearment!

Dad and I have met so many great car people. Received some very nice compliments (Thank You I really appreciate the feedback)

Lots of sYc members have stopped by to meet in person, that is probably the best part of doing this display. I won't try to mention each guy because my brain is burnt toast.

I took a little time late in the day today to run around and take pictures, so many cars so little time.

It was so nice to spend the weekend with Gerald, Jake, Kenny, (and friend name escapes me:-() Nick, Chris, Michael, Rick, Samantha, Brian, Tom, (and family), Roger, Adam, Mark, Mark Jr. (Friends and family), Jimmy, Frank, Ralph/Dad, Dan (and family, so nice to meet your Dad and Daughter), Bob, Vicki, Mike, and so many friends I could never count.

I thank everyone who participated in this display in big ways such as dragging a car through a snow storm to the smallest vote of confidence every single bit of support is appreciated and made this display so meaningful!

Looking a little bigger picture: Sharing these rare gems has a direct impact on the future of our hobby educating and motivating the next generation to get involved and enjoy the cars going forward!!

I always like to define single favorite cars at shows but that would be impossible here, so I will take the easy route and select 10 favorited!

Quote by Dan Vasic...."it ranged from 67 to 69 you get the L-89 package in an intermediate or a Corvette".

There were also 18 L-89 intermediates built during 1970 production.
There was a documented Autumn Gold 1970 Chevelle L-89 in this same display of cars there that weekend.

Yes, I know Rick - when you have a Camera in your Face you can't help but be nervous - it was one Take!

Let's see how well you do....when it's your Chance - oh wait, you never ever attend the MCACN - shame on you!

OK......someone has issues.
Yes I've gone many times to this great gathering & go whenever work or my schedule allows it.

Simmer down boys. Rick, you threw out the criticism, and Dan has a valid point. Having made many incorrect & even stupid statements on camera, I can appreciate the magic of editing. It's easy to forget some things in the heat of battle, and I'm sure Dan was his own worst critic when he said it & saw it.

How true that is! Having been in front to a news camera a few times...discussing donor awareness...you kinda forget what you're going to say! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/shocked.gif

All in good fun!!

If we can't poke a little and take a poke every once in a while what fun would the day be?

Dan's got his big boy pants on, he can take it!! (He sure gives me what for when I say stupid stuff:-))

I have to say, when I watched it the first time and Kevin asked what cars the L89 was available in I was thinking....don't say NOVA........don't say NOVA.....don't say NOVA.............:-) That would have been worth really grinding Dan over the coals!!

SPECIAL DISPLAYS;
