Hey you might be able to trade it straight up for that white string trunk weather strip if the price keeps going up.

Seriously, I believe two things about this sale:

1. I honestly feel you will regret it in a few years (Lord, I hope I am wrong buddy).
2. You are underpriced.

How many original drivetrain Deuces are left? Standard bore? In that good of condition?

We are still a little depressed on prices right now. If a fake L89 brings $200k plus premium, this car has got to be worth at least that.
Smokin deal for the buyer.

Best of luck with the sale.

WOW! That is all I can say. Sam is an outstanding owner and very anal about this car. He stepped up and bought this car in process for our great friend Mr. Sandlin. It was an eye opening experience for me throughout the restoration. This car is one that I hold very high in my life. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif Good luck with the sale.

Sam, tough decision for sure to let it go - but a new caretaker is in order considering you have exhausted the history and restoration and details of such a great car.

This has to be the best Deuce pedigree know to exist (except for Shoney's orig car that he still has). Restoration on this car and the additional day two setup is an amazing piece of documented Yenko Deuce history.

This particular car has the best known pedigree ever - there are many deuces out there, but this one tops it all - especially documented and sold at YENKO Chevrolet - to boot.

Good luck with the sale....truly the best Yenko Deuce to have in a collection - does not get any better than this.

This is one of the coolest frickin Deuces on the planet! If I was one of these millionaire collectors my truck and trailer would be in route to pick this bad boy up RIGHT NOW!

Seriously, the ultimate Deuce trifecta would be this one, Mark Hassett's orange Ohio car, and of course Shoney's!

Sam, it's none of my business, but I hope you have a GOOD reason for parting with this one. WAY to much love's been put into it by you.

Gorgeous Nova. I sat in it's twin in 1970-ish when my dad was shopping for a new car at the local Chevy dealer. Got yelled at by a salesman for shifting the gears pretending to race it. I was 10. I remember thinking what a cheesy interior without a carpet!

More than you might expect! This is likely due to the fact that the Yenko Deuce was never permitted to run in NHRA Stock classes, only the AHRA and NDRA (??, a small sanctioning body in western PA).

I will try to cut/paste an excerpt from a Nova Times article I wrote back in 2011:

&quot;&quot;Once the YDN’s were in owner’s hands, they were generally well cared for. Since these cars were never approved by the NHRA, few were raced competitively and therefore a relatively high percentage (33%) of cars retain their original drive trains. The lowest mile YDN has 6,176 miles while the highest mile YDN has around 130,000. At this time the YDN Registry statistics are as follows:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h68/aacorp/Remainat12_31_2010_zpse87af6b9.jpg (http://s61.photobucket.com/user/aacorp/media/Remainat12_31_2010_zpse87af6b9.jpg.html)

These statistics indicate a few things:
• The survival rate of 51% is in line with other Yenko models, and with the discovery rate slowing to approximately 1 YDN / year on average we expect the survival percentage to remain in this range.
• Certain colors are significantly higher than others, likely indicating popularity in the day - the Forest Green, Citrus Green and Hugger Orange cars for example.
• Other colors, namely Gobi Beige, are significantly lower. This particular color might require an acclimation period for some owners, and the lower discovery percentage is due to this color being the most likely to be repainted - in a different color. A dealer (Stocker Chev, State College, PA) back in the day unflatteringly referred to Gobi Beige as ‘calves (insert: ‘poop’) brown’, it’s no wonder they had difficulty selling theirs! Repainted YDN’s had about a 50% chance of getting their stripes reapplied, whether vinyl or painted, and frequently lost their identity.
• There are 11 cars confirmed as totaled. The most notable of these is a cortez silver 4speed with p/s that was wrecked by Yenko salesperson James Spencer. James suffered a stroke while driving the YDN, and drove head-on into a bridge abutment. James survived, but the totaled YDN was left behind the dealership for several years before being hauled away. That car is still titled under ‘Yenko Leasing’, and was a total write off.&quot;&quot;

<span style="font-size: 14pt">Good stats as per usual Marlin. It cracks me up when I read your post &quot;...and therefore a <span style="font-style: italic">relatively high percentage </span><span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">(33%)</span></span> of cars retain their original drive trains.&quot; I thot <span style="font-style: italic">ALL</span> hipo cars for sale today still retain their original engines <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif (if I read their for sale ads correctly)! 33%, in my mind, is not a high percentage but is realistic. </span>

A little backdrop on this car. I found this car via a DMV title search back in the late 90's or so, and actually spoke to Earl Roof's father initially. He apparently lived across the street from Earl and Linda, and was kind enough to confirm that they actually had this old car and he gave me their contact info. After speaking to Earl for a while about the car, it was one of the best stories I'd heard - especially their trip to Yenko Chevrolet. Several years later, Brian Henderson and I were out 'Yenko Hunting' one snowy weekend, and I had arranged a visit with the Roof's. What we saw was a great car with excellent speed parts - and some NOS sheetmetal leaning against the wall! Glad to see it in it's current condition, and hope it comes back East so we can see it more often. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif

Some pics from when Brian and I went to see the car. BTW, that day actually got even better!

The shifter hole in the tunnel is spot on perfect! Many cars had them 'enlarged' for different shifters. The holes were originally torched, then the factory snipped 2 sides of the opening to make them a tad larger (I'm not telling which of the 2 sides!)- this car's was factory original....

Yes it was. Like Marlin said, while it looked rough in the picture, it cleaned up nice. And with only minor work, started right up after all those years. I remember Steve Sandlin swearing us to secrecy about bringing it to the reunion, but I think he told half the people there that we were on the way with it. I miss that guy. Anyway, there could have been no better care taker for that car than Sam. I/we are very proud to have been part of the history of the car. From the Roofs to Sam, it couldn't have had a better chain of owners. Sam, please screen the prospective buyers well. She needs the best of homes.

Time flies as it doesn't seem long ago the Roofs showed up here and were almost chased away w/ their original postings.
Thankfully they stuck it out as their Deuce couldn't have found a better home than w/ Sam, look again at the results for any clarification necessary!
Restoring w/ the original day-2 performance hardware intact put this car into a class of its own also a new level for others to strive for.
Best of luck w/ the sale Sam also whoever gets to be this stunning car's new owner!

Sam,

First of all like everyone else I agree that's one awesome ride, even if it is a frickin Nova.

For those of you that don't know, Sam and I used to share the same office for a couple years. I remember many arguments with you at work about the &quot;stupid high school look&quot; when I said someday I would have a Chevelle like I had back in high school. Slots or Cragers, meats on the back, headers, traction bars, aftermarket air cleaner, valve covers, hurst t-handle, Sun Tach, and ok maybe not the shag carpet on the package tray. Of course he's a squid and couldn't be expected to know better. I am glad to see that you not only have finally came around but you took it to a whole new level.

I am surprised the Roof Duece hasn't sold already, it seems very reasonably priced and is an over-the-top awesome car, literaly a piece of art.

Just be careful - I took my Deuce back to KY and let the 2nd owner take it for a spin, he drove it like he stole it!! I was a little nervous, not just at the speeds we were doing on some little, winding KY roads but also at the engine rev's. The second owner is the one with the <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif

Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well. Want to give you an update on the Yenko, I am sure most of you know this car is a multi-national show winning Yenko, and I am happy to share with you all that I will be bringing this car to the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in November. Many of you are familiar with this car in its Day-2 configuration and Sam did a magnificent job in recreating it as it was in the 70’s. Well the team at Mascar Auto has reworked this Yenko into our version of a Day 2 …. An Executive Day 2 and we can’t wait to show and share our version of this amazing car. Please take the time to come by and see our display of this and 4 other great cars at the show. We will have this 1970 Deuce Yenko on display along with a 1970 Black 426 Hemi Cuda, a 1970 Saturn Yellow GSX Stage 1 4 spd, a 1970 Special Order Paint Black 428 SCJ Cougar Eliminator and a Pro Street 1987 Buick Gran National, all built buy Mascar / Classic Resto-Mod.

Made (in our opinion) very tasteful upgrades / changes …. No A/C, all parts are vintage to time period and correct. Sam did an amazing job, however I wanted something a bit different, all “Day 2” that were on the car have been preserved and packaged for safe keeping, and all changes are done in a way that the car can easily be changed back, however I plan on keeping this and my other 1970 Yenko Deuce a long time, in fact I would like add a few more <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

That's because they are too short for the car. They should go all the way back to the end of the rocker. Hurst wheels belong on Pontiacs only in my opinion. Honestly should have left that baby alone.

I always wanted to put those on that car, but a real vintage set was very very pricey. The repops weren't out at the time I owned it. Marks car looks awesome with them on it. I know at that time a mint set was 10-12k!

Not being critical - I just have a serious question:

Weren't Hurst wheels &quot;done&quot; long before 1970? I guess I always thought of them as a short-lived design that was only available and popular from about 1965-1968. I figured they were no longer &quot;cool&quot; by the time a '70 Deuce would have left the showroom. Am I wrong?

Like the sidepipes, never been a fan of the Hurst Mags, but I appreciate that you're doing your own thing, and isn't that what Hot Rods and Street Machines were all about?

Thank you everyone for your comments, I was and am prepared that some will like and some will not like what we did. All original parts are secured and stored, all (Sam) Day 2 parts are secured and stored, and all items can be returned to stock. I built this car the way I would have built it if I walked into the dealer in 1970 and purchased it and then had dealer adds put on the car. Think of it this way, if in 1970 I am a huge Chevy fan, but don’t like the new Camaro body style, don’t like the Corvette, but I really like the Nova, and am a Yenko fan, so I have the dealer add items that I want to make the car more to my liking. As for the Hurst wheels, I know that Hurst finished the last 50 for Yenko, my CG Deuce is one of the 50, and I know that at least 1 of those 50 had Hurst wheels. We have an original set of Hurst wheels for the car, they were very pricy and we have a re-pop set … also pricy. I am posting 1 last picture of the Nova (engine) and 1 last picture of the Cougar for now, you can see them at the show, and after the show I will post detailed pictures and info. Wishing everyone a great day and see you at the show.

I am looking forward to meeting you all and hopefully out of the 5 cars we are brining, everyone will be able to find at least 1 that they like in our area : ) http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2014/11/full-18271-18555-img_3142.jpg

Hurst wheels were never on a nova. Even the hurst giveaway car had cragars on it. Hurst wheels were not even manufactured after 68 for those in the know. So they never could have been on a 70.

I believe this is from the 1st run of 125. And yes, Dave's was near the end as was Cronkleton's blue deuce. FWIW this isn't the 1st deuce with side pipes. There's a SF yellow one still with the original owner that really did put them on day 2 back in the day. Still on the last I knew. I think his car was on the transport with mine. Not sure Cronkleton's might have been too. The side pipes were, I believe, a reflection of the Motion mods that were getting lots of magazine articles at the time. The Hurst tie in has some times been over blown. It was mainly the stripes, and conversion to the floor for the automatics. Hurst converted autos usually had back up lights that actually worked. I don't know of any that ever got the rims.

Thought about putting dual quads/tunnel ram on mine when I was way much younger. Probably a good thing I didn't. :-)

Yes, the Roof Deuce was definitely in the first order of 125 cars, and was not converted by Hurst. We are not aware of any Deuces that came new with Hurst wheels, but they don't look half bad.... Schoneye is correct about the side pipes, there is a SY Deuce in Nebraska that still has 'em - looks cool too!

Hey, if that is the way you choose to enjoy the car while you are the caretaker - have at it, manifolds with sidepipes, Hurst mags, roll control, dual quads... ! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Very good eye, you caught the change back to the manifolds, (they were professionally ported flow tested, good for 16 HP) and the Vintage Hurst Line Lock, there are also some significant changes in the cockpit………. You didn’t catch the Power Steering add ……. All numbers correct and NOS. : )

Really enjoy this forum, the best out there, see you all soon .......... Sam hope you are going to be there : )

Right Fred, you are learning!
Why add a set of dual quads and take the headers off.
As &quot;perfect&quot; as that car was and as &quot;perfect&quot; all the original Day-2 parts were I think I would have chose a lesser version Yenko Deuce to do my custom 2014 additions to. 16 hp on the flowed exhaust manifolds? Whats that going to do for you. Going to see some track time?

What does the word customizing mean?? Its all about doing your own thing. Scott is having a great time playing with one of his new toys. I think he put some fun touches on the car. And if he gets tired of it we can always put it back to stock, or what ever he decides to do with it. The damn car is not a Rembrandt that you cant touch. Scott and I have been there, done that.. Way too boring!

Its all good, not looking for attention, just loving the hobby and having fun sharing. All opinions are welcome and supported, its what its all about. As for taking Headers off, they just make to much heat and noise for me, this car is a &quot;drive once in a while car&quot; and I want to keep it as clean and nice as possible, and headers just bake it a bit to much for me. As for track, no way, I had the stock exhaust ported to give it a bit better flow with the dual 4v, if I want to go fast I will take the PRO Street GN out for a drive....however I am getting to the age where I don't really like going fast anymore. This is my version of an &quot;Executive Day 2&quot;. Thank you for the input and comments, it keeps things fun and gives us all something to chat about, I am never offended by different opinions, as long as we respect each other and keep in fun. Also, remember, everything is in storage and this car can be returned to completely stock at any time : )

Sammy, why the negative comments. Obviously the car was not &quot;perfect&quot; to him and he chose to customize it per his taste, not anyone elses. He owns the car and obviously has his own vision of what look he wants and configuration.

It is your car &amp; you are free to do anything to it you wish, but because you asked us for opinions,I have to agree with SC69Sam and others &amp; wouldn't have done what you did.
Yes you kept all the parts and it can be put back as it was when you bought it,but there are other cars you could've chosen better to do this on,not the Roof Deuce.
The Roof Deuce was a special restored Day 2 car that was unique in it's own right &amp; with widely known personal history.None of what you've done to it relates to it's history.
Some might call what you did sacrilege, while others might applaud.
