I'm decoding the cowl tag on a 74 Nova and have ran across a couple extra numbers not listed over at Nova Resource.
Line 3 has the following:
05D18 0309
Line 4 has the following:
Y Z
Also, would the cowl tag or any other location tell you if the car was a factory 4 spd? There is a clutch pedal in the car, and the hump has been cut up and has an aftermarket automatic in It and a 75 Olds 455 motor.
A little less than 2% of the 390K plus Nova's had 4spd's in 74.

I can tell that this was a 4th week of May car without info in front of me. The automatic 73 Hatchback I saved from the crusher, had an automatic trans hump in it. How hacked is the tunnel? Is the z bar bracket bolted to the frame?

The other numbers/letters are option codes for Fisher Body guys relating to the installation of the driveline components. There is an explanation on pg.18 of Colvin's 70-75 book...

Right Jed. It's the other numbers after the build date that I'm not able to decode. I went out and shot some pics of the frame and clutch.

Number one, that is the wrong clutch pedal, number two, theres a bolt in place of where the pin and clip should be, number three, I see no evidence of the z bar support, but that is usually seen through the drivers side wheel well.

Its odd that it does have the neutral safety switch on the pedal even though it does not seem to be the correct one. Orientation is throwing me off.

The 18 should be the paint code.

Is the triangular hole pattern on the frame any indication of a where the Z bar bracket plate should go?

All 74 and later Nova's had the small clutch pedal. The 2nd picture is not a z-bar frame bracket mount hole pattern. It should be on the outside of the frame rail and your picture looks like the inside.
Brian
P.S.-Sometime mid year 73 the Nova starting getting the small clutch pedal.

See, this is what happens when you look at too many 68-72s.
