I restored this car for my brother-in-law in 1996 and am sadly now selling it for them. We did a full and complete frame off restoration at that time and the car was painted by Tom Scholtz, the same painter I recently used to paint Dana's 68 Yenko Camaro. I can supply any serious buyer with several before/during and after restoration photos but I have to get them digitized first. Many NOS parts were used as well as reproduction. The main intent for my brother-in-law was that we have a completely stock appearing but very fast street/strip car. It is not a trailer queen but was still restored with great detail and less than 5000 miles have been put on the car since it's completion. The car was an original 396 A/C car but had a small block installed when he purchased it as well as a hand made heater cover in place of the A/C. We reworked the firewall so as to be able to use a slightly modified non A/C cover. It has a black/white houndstooth interior. A power steering gear and hoses are on the car but he never added the pump so I may be adding that before it sells.
We pulled the small block out that came in the car and he had another small block built and bored to a 383 and used an externally balanced 400 crank, flywheel and balancer. It has stock 5.7 GM rods, SRP forged 10.7 to 1 pistons, a 292 Comp cam, Dart Iron Eagle 200 cc heads, roller rockers, Holley 750 DP, Victor Jr. intake, MSD 6AL ignition and wires with a timing dial mounted on the dash, a built Turbo 350 trans with 3000 stall convertor and 390 gears in a 12 bolt rear. It is running headers and 3" exhaust. The engine was built to run on 91 octane or better fuel though I just added some 102 octane in it. Quarter mile times were consistently 11.9-12.1 with horrible 60' times.
The only issue I see on the car is about a quarter sized area on the top of the passenger quarter (pictured). It is not rusting but the paint has blistered in that area. It could also use a set of new and larger rear tires as these are the ones that were used on the track. May negotiate in MANY extra parts that could go with the car including a 400 block and slicks.
As if it should matter, I am NOT being paid a fee or commission to sell this car nor for any work I am doing to the car prior to it's sale. The car is in my shop at this time and you can call or email me with any questions. 217.626.2277 We are asking $30k for the car.
