<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">From dust to dust, people and cars come and go, but sometimes the old is reborn … and out of the dust emerges something immaculate.

A 1969 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 428 Cobra Jet is a mouthful to say but it will drop any car enthusiasts jaw. This particular garage-find was owned and perfectly preserved by a now-deceased automotive connoisseur.

Larry never washed the car for fear of scratching the paintjob or cause even the slightest bit of rust. Yahoo News estimates that the only time the car was ever washed was before delivery. Accordingly, the car is in absolute show room condition, except for a layer of dust.

This snake features a larger, 428-cubic-inch Cobra Jet engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission, which has only run 8,500 miles in total. The spark plugs, belts, fan, and hoses are all original. The only items that are not from 1968 are the tires.

Considering this highly collectable GT500 has sat since 1973 it’s an extreme rarity. The Mustang was originally purchased for just $5,245 in 1969. Now, though,it should sell at auction for over $100,000.

The car will be auctioned off by Ron Gilligan Auctioneering on April 25th.

The engine and engine compartment are awful nasty for a 8500 mile car.

I think the 100k number is about right for that car. I don't think there's a chance in hell it flirts with 200

Dan </div></div>hi thanks for the link.

the engine looks like it has at least 108,500 miles.

it is an estate sale not barrett jackson so imo might hit 60k.

from the auction

&quot;the exterior finishes present nicely with approximately 70% to 75% of the paint appearing original.&quot;

what happened to the other 30% of the original paint if it only has 8,500 miles.

if it only has 8,500 miles why does it have 108,500 miles worth of oil and grime on the front of the engine?

What is yahoo smokin. did they not look at the engine photo or even read the auction description, lol?

&quot;The only items that are not from 1968 are the tires.&quot;

This is the only thing I believe from yahoo.

Here's a pic of it in the garage.

The interior looks like 8500 miles. The FE engines did have crappy gaskets so I can see how it got oily. A good garage or barn find story goes a long way these days. I bet it brings around $175k just for the bragging rights on this one.

it is impossible for the engine to leak that much oil and have that much crud on the front after only 8500 miles unless he removed the valve cover bolts and took it mud racing, lol

the auction company's do not guarantee mileage. they are required to record the auctions and simply say &quot;the mileage is 8500 so states the owner&quot; or &quot;the engine is newly rebuilt so states the owner.&quot; This releases them of all legal liability. they are only required to guarantee the title is transferable. the mileage is 108,531 guaranteed.

a restored original sheet metal one one is only around 120k.

What about the Ranchero? Pretty sweet. The van is awesome also for what it is.

I thought I had read somewhere that the original owner was a fanatic about maintaining his cars and that the &quot;oily crud&quot; on the engine was actually something like cosmoline that was applied to protect the finish.

Don't expect a journalist to get the facts or details right. It's all about selling a story.

Kurt - your picture reminds me of this shot of my GTO -

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b369/hotrod001/img078.jpg

It sat it that spot for about 25 years until I could convince Dad to let me keep it at my house. 4656.2 miles on it that whole time.

I like how they gravitate towards the right side of the garage...
