I'm looking for original GM deep groove pulleys for my 69 chevelle and I'm curious to know is there a way to determine originals from the reproductions. Thanks

My experience: The 291 crank pulley has a very light stamped #, the 824 W.P. pulley has bumps around the projected part of the snout where the pressed inner re-enforcement distorted the snout, the 1105 has a lip on outer front edge that you can catch a finger nail on, the 458 has a crescent shaped indention around the part # from the stamp. While these are not exactly fail safe, it is a good start of uniqueness of each. Plenty of pics out there to compare.

Don't know about the BBC pulleys, but on the small block, if you install it and run the engine you will know immediately if it is a repop. THEY AREN'T ROUND.

291 has a stamped S opposite of part number and is a 2 piece that is spot welded in three places together. It also weighs significantly more than a reproduction.

On the PS pulley the fonts are different in the numbers and on the back there are manufacturing marks on the original that AREN'T on the repops.
Similar markings on the back of the 458DA smog pulley also.

I assume your Chevelle is a Solid Lifter BB ? If So, AVOID any and ALL REPRODUCTION DEEP GROOVE PULLEYS especially with a Solid Lifter or any Hi-Perf 400+ H.P. engine. Those repops are JUNK, DANGEROUS & A TRAGEDY WAITING TO HAPPEN. THEY BLOW APART UNDER RPM,,,,We had a Friends Z/28 in to repair after a crank pulley came apart.......$15,000 Later in repairs. They are imports of questionable metal, welds and craftsmanship. Need I say more?
