A dear old friend of mine recently had a heart attack. Nice guy, straight shooter. He knows Camaro parts, but is getting rid of most everything.
I have been given first shot at a complete original BE rear end. I may go look at it tonight. Here is the skinny as given to me over the phone.
Original uncut housing, BE stamp still clear.
Cast late April 69, assembled May 15.
Original 4.10 heat treated gears dated 5 of 69.
Correct posi unit (not the Moroso Brute strength unit) with correct numbers, original to the housing.
The perches were not cut off, but were modified to use with mono leaf on a 67. So, to be perfect it would require a new set of perches. But, at least the perches weren’t torched off, so no damage to the tubes.
I realize conidtion affects value, but generally, what is the going rate for a complete BE rear?
Same guy has an over the counter NOS COPO posi unit. Again, it is the GM unit with the clutches, springs side gears, not the Moroso unit.
I have never seen one for sale. Any guess on the going rate for the NOS posi unit? My friend asked what I thought it woas worth. I really don't know.
Of course the biggest issue with the posi unit is I am afraid someone will buy it, stick it in a BL rear and restamp it to look like a BE.
I am not normally a parts flipper, but he offered me what I think is a really good deal on the complete rear. Seeing as I don’t have a COPO, I would just be flipping it. Just want to be sure it is worth my time.
Feel free to pm me if you prefer.
