I don't think I have seen anyone do a side by side comparison of the repro body/fender bolts next to originals. So here it goes. In tis picture the repro bolt is on the left. The flange on the original is wider, the shape of the flange is not perfectly round but flowers out on the flats of the hex while it draws back s=at the corners of the hex.

Now before you say I'm nuts I think the repros are great but if your going to that ultimate level in a restoration you can tell the difference. Nest we will look at the side of the bolt.

Again the repro bolt is on the left. Now looking at the side you can see the real difference the threads and tip. The original bolt is 7/8" from under the head to the tip and because of the new manufacturing process they can't reproduce the original "Pinch Point" on the end making it noticeably sharper, pointer and longer causing the threads to be cut short to retain the overall length. So a 7/8" bolt has 3/4" thread. This is easily spotted by a sharp eyed judge and now you!!!

I agree Sam and 90% of the folks probably don't care, this is for those who want to make sure they have all original parts on their cars.

Rich keep up the great info and Ads you are posting.
It is great information.
I am a big fan of originality regardless on how people restore there cars some people enjoy doing it right with original parts and there is nothing wrong with that. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif
