engine and rear got swapped out because the man gave it to his wife to drive and the 410 gear and big block did not work well. He put a smallblock and 10 bolt in. Fender appears to be orig paint so I think the RS emblem is orig. Car got backed into by someones Mom so he put a new fender on it and then it sat...and sat.......On a cart is the CE warranty block with incorrect heads.

Can you verify that the Rally Sport on the fender is original so we can put to rest "they did not come that way" issue?

Wow!!! Need to hear the story on that one. And I know you know better, but I hope you set a few dozen mousetraps inside that car before you brought it into your building!
Tail panel isn't blacked out.Is that typical for an X-11 COPO?

Very cool Charley! Pics of headlight washer nozzles? RS door stops on rad support? Wiper motor with RS washer? RS tail light harness? It's another data point helping to confirm that RS cars did come with either Camaro script OR RS emblems on fenders (as Stefano mentioned).

I have no desire to restore or clean this thing. My goal it to trade it for a really nice first gen Z28. I was told it was sold new at Steakley ? Chevrolet of Dallas.
Many years ago I found a 1970 L78 Chevelle sold there. It was Zone 07,Dealer 698,and later became Dealer 700 in the late 90's.
Steakley Brothers Chevrolet (aka CHEVY-TOWN USA) was located on the NW corner of either 5411,or 6411 East Northwest Highway at Abrams in Dallas Tx. during mid 1960's.
The Steakleys were heavy into drag racing and also had a Chevy dealer in Waco,Tx. & Temple Tx. prior I learned.
The Steakleys sold out to the AutoNation dealership group a few years ago and it was then renamed Bankston Chevrolet.
Bankston has now closed up,but their buildings still remain there today I'm told it's an abandon furniture store.

Last time we looked at these same pics and discussing that '67 in the background, Mark Johnson said..."That's the Weber Chevrolet '67 Camaro that I'm pretty sure was one of the Barford Yenkos driven by Gene Rains. I'm sure I'll be corrected by someone if I'm wrong about this. By the way, Weber is still in business to this day..."
Launch shot is one I had saved on my confuser and posted here before?

Sorry for the constant hijacking but here's the Steakley dealer info also a few more of their drag car pics.
Pics are of Kelly Chadwick and Bobby Steakley's cars also the last pic later and Grover Rogers w/ their old chassis and a '71 body.
Not sure if the floppers are the same Hardy chassis w/ different bodies as w/ Chadwick & Bobby S. both having 69's, you'd think there was at least two?
I believe the current pics Rick posted above is a different old dealership and the Steakley operation next door across the side street?
Googling the address, w/ Street View you can see the Steakley name on an old billboard across the side street also a Chevy Bowtie on the building behind...it changes to later Google pics w/ different billboard if you go too far along the street.

the 67 was the Gene Rains Yenko Super Camaro Dealers sponsored race car with the black top

Wouldn't it be one of the first ? Sept 4th week '68. Note the body number and the presence of the early 6/7 tach.

The X-codes didn't appear until 2nd week of December 1968, that concludes that it was built in September 1969.
When they started production in August of 1969 the body number sequence were reset but the VIN-sequence continued. Initially they were intended to be 1970 year model since the 2nd Gens were delayed.
Another fact is that COPO's were not built at all in September 1968, they came later.

Plus it has a blue door Vin decal so must be Sept '69...even the half left behind has the 09/69.
Is it known if the blue decals appeared exactly with the body # reset date and continuation of '69 model production?

starrider do you have a Chas Carter emblem on the back of your car ? Holes for one ?
Wow. This is good stuff.
Starrider, does your car have any of the original drive train components? If it has the original BE rear, what is the date?
This NCRS data is proving to be very interesting.

No signs of having a Chas Carter emblem. I looked on the inside of the tail panel to see if there were any previously drilled holes and appeared never to have had any. It has original engine and trans but the rearend was replaced. Still working on trying to locate it. I spoke to the owner at the time and he replaced it because the gearing was to low. Unfortunately instead of changing the gears, he swapped it for a 10 bolt.

Mine was found near Moody Texas. It has been around Moody since it was about a year old with 2800 miles. I guess Moody is near Bonham.

Hey Charlie....I think I have a Carter Chevrolet from Bonham Texas and I believe it was chrome but was actually installed with double back tape. I will see if I can dig it up and take pics of the front and back. When I lived in Phoenix I was a junk yard dog and collected anything Chevrolet dealer related. I would love to see this emblem go on a COPO. Let me know if your interested.

I think these were pegged from the company that made them as you can see the rear pic where the double back tape is. I can get the measurements if need be. This emblem is in good shape but I would rechrome for a COPO show car. Later Kim http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2014/06/full-444-12658-dealership_emblems_026.jpg

Hey Charley....The embossed area where the pegs would have been is 5-1/4". The emblem is 5-3/4" long and 1" tall on the narrow ends and 1-3/4" tall on the center bulge. This emblem came off a an early 70s Caprice that ended up in a Phoenix wrecking yard in the middle 80s http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2014/06/full-444-12686-dealership_emblems_038.jpg

Oh well good luck I tried. If it were mine that would be trivial. I have not seen any smaller versions of these. Its possilble they were the same size on the emblem itself only the castings for the pins were different. If need be you know where to find one.

LOL....Even though the holes are different I'll buy it from you. Better to have something.

Those 2 little round dents are for ejector pins - to get the die casting out of the mold. Most likely the pinned emblem was the same size.

I'll send you a PM and work out arrangments. You would be surprised how many I purchased for my car until a better one came along. I know by collecting these things over the years that alot of dealers went to the double back tape so they would not have to drill holes anymore would be my guess. A few customers that I have heard stories about refused delivery due to this oversight (drilling and mounting dealer emblems). I thought about what bergy said and took a single edge blade and peeled back one side of the tape about 1 inch but could not find any castings for the pegs. I have seen where the pegs were ground or filed down and double back tape was put in place. Anyhow Thanks

So your COPO is later than N709729? I've seen that car several times and talked to the owner. He has ownership history all the way back to day 1 along with original dealer paperwork. He had copies of it with him when I saw the car. It was sold at Ferris in New Philadelphia OH. I don't know if he has a POP, but the engine and rear are supposed to be original to the car. That car and N709612 are both 10E cars, although the dealership is not known on that car so I'm assuming there is no original paperwork with it.

Wow. Can't believe this car came from Carter. I grew up in Bonham and my Dad even worked for Carter in the late 70s. I still go to Bonham every couple of weeks because I still have family there. Carter became Carter-Wood in the late 80s and moved from the old downtown location around the same time. The new location was on Center street and that is now a Dodge dealership. Carter-Wood sold out in the mid '00s and the dealer became Legacy Ridge Chevrolet, Buick, GMC. There's no GM dealer in Bonham now as they were part of the closings that happened in 2009.
My Dad would love this car if he was still here today. I wish I could tell him about it. If that car was around Bonham when new, he would have known it. I'd love to own a '69 Camaro that was sold there. Very cool!

Charley,
I've posted to Facebook to see if anyone from Bonham remembers this car and might have some information on it. I can't imagine that many Copos went through Carter so I'm sure some of my Dad's friends might remember it, if it stayed around Bonham at all. Hell, I can't believe two of them were sold there.
