Need the stamping numbers off the case. If I'm not mistaken, the 661 case was 70 and up. The M-20 and 21 use the same case, m-22 had a drain plug. Should be a partial vin stamped by the trans stamp.

there is a "p8a" stamped on the mid plate.

then a "2 12 " on the side on the main case. thats all i have from the picture i took.

All 661 cases had the lower drain plug so that won't tell you it's an M22.

660 Main cases were used in Aug. and part of Sept. of 1969, the beginning of the 1970 model year, and these have drain plugs...

Thats one of the model year changes, beginning of the 1970 model year all Muncie main cases are drilled for fill and drain plugs...

Hope this helps... Crash

If the trans was original to the 1970 Camaro it would have a 661 main case... Crash

Sounds like a 68. But you're missing some #'s.

i might have to have a look at it again. and look at it more closely.

It looks to be average shape.

Whats a tranny worth with the bel housing? 200$?

They are going for more than that. I would say around $5-600.

so there is no way by looking at the "numbers" on a tranny like this to determine if its a M-20 or M-21?

If this is a 1966 or later transmission, it will have rings on the input shaft. One ring is M21, two rings is M20, no rings is M22. Can't always be sure of the no rings though since I have owned plenty of 1966 and later Muncies that had no rings on the input shaft but ended up being an M20 or M21 since it had a gear set replacement at some point.

Except 1968 transmissions weren't letter coded with the ratio.
