What is a good process to clean then restore these parts to provide the new/fresh brass or copper look to a part?
Appreciate the advise....
If it's heavily tarnished, add two tablespoons each of salt and white vinegar to a pint of water in a bowl.
Completely soak the item in the solution overnight.
In the AM you should see a completely different colored part.
Rinse it off with cold water and towel dry, then rub in a protective polishing cream like MAAS to bring out it's luster.
I've done this on many Brass & copper items with incredible results.
Understand that over time brass & copper will tarnish again,so get used to doing this.

I trying not to make it look shinny - just that OE look - would brasso make it shine?
Yes it will,as well as protect it lightly.
Just soak it in the salt/vinegar solution then for a raw OE look.
