What to use for under-hood clean up?

I just pulled the 496 out of the Chevelle to address a couple of issues and so I can re-detail everything in the engine bay.

Forgive me for asking what I'm sure will seem to be an elementary question for most of you, but what can I use that will be effective at removing the left-over body shop schmutz and minor road grime/debris that won't damage the paint or powdercoating on the frame? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

Eric, when my Vega came back from paint it was a mess before we could start reassembly. Mostly from wet sanding and final buffing. I used just plain elbow grease and wax and water to remove the crap. It was in every nook and cranny you can imagine, Even after it was put back together there were places that I would find that needed cleaning.
I know that is not much help but<span style="color: #FF0000"><span style="font-weight: bold"> just use whatever is appropriate for the surface you are working on.</span></span> (ie. metal polish on the Weld wheels so and so forth.)

I spray it down with 409 or anything like it and I have a small pressure washer that I set low and spray it down. When it dries I look see and use a plastic putty knife and do some scraping if need be. Then a good rattle car finish like Seymour semi gloss or if you can find Krylon Semi-flat, if not semi-gloss Krylon works for me.

I think you are going to have to work into this. I would first try some car soap and warm water. I would then progress to something like a dilution of Purple Power or Castrol Super Clean. If you have access to a steam cleaner, that would rock!

Be careful how long you leave the Purple Power on paint. It will lossen it and remove it.

I use spray Nine...used it for 30 years and works well. Won't hurt your paint any but don't leave on for a week. Small pressure washer will help like Sam says. I would dilute it some with warm water. {25%/75%} spray 9 being the 75%
