<span style="font-weight: bold">DESCRIPTION

1970 saw the birth of the Chevelle SS454 LS6, the largest-displacement and most powerful Chevrolet muscle car built to that time and the enduring champion of the muscle car wars. One of the most impressive combinations of the era, the 1970 Chevelle and the LS6 engine, which the factory underrated at 450 HP, were a marriage made in muscle car heaven. The LS6 big block engine was packed with all the time-tested horsepower-producing technology, including a forged steel crank in beefy 4-bolt mains, forged steel connecting rods and aluminum pistons, a high lift, high duration solid lifter cam, an 800 CFM Holley 4-barrel on an aluminum dual plane intake manifold and gargantuan intake and exhaust valves in high flow heads. The authenticity of this 1970 Chevelle SS454 LS6 convertible has been documented by noted Chevrolet collector Buddy Herin, who had the build sheet subjected to forensic analysis by a document conservator; it has also been verified by Mark Meekins of the National Chevelle Owners Association. Professionally restored by Car Connection in Waco, Texas, it is correctly finished in beautiful Fathom Blue with White SS stripes, Ivory bucket seat interior and a power operated White soft top. The car was built at the Van Nuys assembly plant and equipped with a Muncie M22 “Rock Crusher” 4-speed, 3.31:1 Positraction differential, power steering and front disc brakes, F41 special performance suspension, a cowl induction hood with hood pins, Soft Ray tinted glass, center console and Super Sport wheels with White letter Goodyear Polyglas tires; a tilt steering column and AM/M stereo were added during the car’s restoration. Documentation includes high definition photographs of the build sheet and photos taken during the car’s pre-restoration inspection.

A friend of mine built the exact twin to that car 10 years ago and it was perfect in every respect. He made the dealer sign a paper knowing it was a clone and mysteriously that paper disappeared and a dealer out west sold it as a real one.

There was a lot a confusion about this LS6 Chevelle. One of the main reasons is that there were clones with the same color combo.

This car was found by Buddy Herin and he had it restored and then sold it off at a Mecum Texas Auction with the bulk of his car collection.

Based on our research which included an absorbent amount of time and $$$$$$, which was invested by Rick Nelson and his client, we are very confident that this is a real LS6.

They were even able to find the Original owner's son, who learned to drive a manual trans with this car, as the story goes.

Great colors on a great car! I am curious as to the hammer price at the auction and when it was sold. I followed these cars pretty well because I had a real red hardtop with good equipment and some paperwork. I sold that car in 1999 to help my parents move into a retirement condo.
Is the selling price here somewhere?

It sold out of Herin's collection, then went to Mecum Indy and we bought and resold it since.

Hammered for $275,000.00 Mecum Texas and $235,000.00 Mecum Indy.

The engine and trans are not original to the car, the rear end might be, the body, trim tag and VIN are original.

I am curious to why it would take alot of time and money invested if the car had its original buildsheet?? Unless im not reading something right again !

The original build sheet was found on top of the gas tank. There are pictures of the car, tank and build sheet.

It was not in the best shape, but all the pertinent info regarding an LS6, 4 speed was present.

Buddy sent the sheet to a document specialist. The specialist used some special techniques to make the sheet more legible, took many pictures and made slides. The sheet was returned to Buddy, but lost sometime between the time he received it and the time the car went to auction with the rest of his collection.

The Herin family has agreed to provide the &quot;original&quot; build sheet to the current owner if it is ever found.
