Nice piece of history...why does everything have to be restored?

Exactly!! Guaranteed the "before" pics would get more eye time then the "finished" pics in that album.

It would literally be a crime to restore that car.

If that car was restored I probably wouldn't even stop to look at it during a show. I'd walk right past it thinking it was a clone, tribute, re-creation. The way it is now, you just know its real!

The way it is now you don't know WHAT the hell it was. This is an important piece of Corvette history, it NEEDS to be white with blue stripes and red painted wheels. Period.
I don't think that there is a 100% right or wrong answer. If it were mine, I would restore it. What a cool car.

The car needs to be restored to its racing heritage. That's the only way it can be admired for what it truly is.

Gone.....like to see what the new owner decides to do? Wonder how much it actually sold for? Amazing car with an amazing story. I'm for keeping it unrestored.

Didn't the auction just run it's course and end? All 18 offers say "declined".

According to the article they believe that the gold paint can be removed without any ill effects to the original white and blue paint below. If this is the case then to me that would be the best way to do it.

Shows all offers as declined. Unless a deal was made post auction which happens a lot.
I guess we need to differentiate the discussion between restored to as raced configuration vs restored to showroom.
Raced I agree with. Showroom, not really.
Tin soldier only has 4,000 miles from new and was red from the factory. Several people think the car should be restored as new, as one of the lower mile copos out there. But to me the heritage is as the racecar it was.

One of the most intense ads I have seen on Ebay. Almost 29,000 hits. Awesome.

If the metalflake can be removed, that's what should be done. I'd be ecstatic with just that. This is the first significant Corvette race car to go up against international brands. This is the test mule for fuel injection. This is the test mule for the first 4-speed transmission. This car shouldn't look like a broken-down 50s hot rod reject.
Cool car...leave it as found.
