View Full Version : correct argent silver lacquer
Anyone have a source for CORRECT lacquer argent silver paint (not in a rattle can).
I bought a quart from carpaintonline.com. The coverage is not good, and it is too dark.

See if you have a PPG paint store that still mixes lacquer, I have been using acrylic enamel and it sprays and looks the same. They can mix it in OMNI too.

I would suggest against the PPG Omni line, I wouldn't go below the ShopLine level - and would suggest at least the Deltron if not the Global line.... IMHO.
NOBODY in the OKC metro mixes PPG lacquer. There is no law against it. They just don't carry it.
Of course, and this makes NO SENSE, you can buy all the lacquer thinner you want from the same guys that won't sell lacquer.
I agree with Marlin. Good stuff or not at all.

I use Dupont Chroma Premier with a bit of hardener for durability, matched the NOS headlight bezels perfectly.

That's for sure Bill - how about a picture of the other side. If it fits just as nicely - it'll be the best I've ever seen! Usually one side or the other has a little more of an outboard gap. Of course, the re-pops are nothing but gaps!

Don't think I didn't spend my share of time getting it aligned, hell I was so frustrated at one point I wanted to go with bigger hammer ie 5lb sledge and use the "BEAT TO FIT AND PAINT TO MATCH installation technique!"

Yep, one of the nicest fitting ones I have ever seen., and the grill fits the fenders VG too.

Grill and bezels.
If I had half a brain, I would have just bought some chroma premier for the grill... but of course, because it was lacquer from the factory, I bought some lacquer. Supposedly PPG with the right color code. Not even close in my opinion, way to dark. No one has commented that it looks too dark, but I am certain it is.
Now I am afraid to paint over the lacquer with anything other than lacquer for fear of a reaction. I know I could shoot epoxy primer over it, then chroma premier on the epoxy. Would much rather just shoot a couple coats of the correct color lacquer.
