Magic Mirror Treatment

I picked this up a few weeks ago and was wondering when/ why it was used. I think it had a light glue on the color side around the perimeter and a spot to mark the treatment date on the rear. I'm thinking 63/64 era???

They did. I believe Magic Mirror paint started in 59. I'm thinking this was used after some type of waxing at the dealer.... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

That's right. The Magic Mirror Acrylic Lacquer logo appeared on the cowl tags in '59 and continued into '64 when the tags were changed to more of a GM corporate tag and the logo went away. The cars were still painted the same way though.
That item implies some sort of &quot;treatment&quot; was done to the cars after delivery. I've never seen it before and don't know what year its from.

Thanks Verne. I was &quot;hoping&quot; you knew what this was, not too many people familiar with early stuff. The guy I got it from was into tri five stuff and he had some 63-64 and very little later 60's items. The aqua color is what's throwing me. I would imagine based on that design, 67-69, but I've never seen it.

Sorry I couldn't have been more help, but as you said, I'm into the earlier years and I don't think this item is from those years. The GM logo makes it '64 or later, since all the plants were converted to GMAD after then.
It's an interesting piece that was obviously used at the dealer for some sort of application to the paint surface. It even has a blank where someone was to write a date when &quot;it&quot; was applied.

As you can see, this '64 tag from a late March St. Louis car already has eliminated any reference to Chevrolet and the Magic Mirror logo is gone.

That tag is from a 68 Yenko Camaro.

the Magic Mirror tag was used on some early 1966 Chevelles

Magic Mirror was the new acrylic lacquer paint that started on all GM cars for the 1959 model year,though some '58s had been painted with it as a test.
As has been said,your decal can't be any earlier than '64 because that particular logo didn't come out until then.
I've seen that decal once before and suspect it was part of a program for GM dealers to apply some kind of sealant or special polish,like Blue Coral.
...It's possible that decal is Canadian.
