Literally one of the coolest Camaros I have ever seen. I hope this one isn't restored back to stock and ends up being another boring stock L78. This car needs the cool day 2 history preserved!

Phil is that the highest optioned coupe so far?

luzl78
07-20-2014, 10:59 PM
My convert. has 9 options plus others that are not on the tag. Can you imagine what this car would go for if it was a vert? The ebay car has the rare headrest seats. This car might sell for 45,000, maybe even 50,000. With resto you would have 140,000 into it.

3 bid retractions already. Hope the seller has an idea what hes in for. People that dont have the money to buy it telling him its worth a fortune and playing with the bidding process ,and all the real buyers scared off from all the bid retractions. So hes left with a high biodder that doesnt want it. Funny too, that BOTH bid retractors have SIX [yes 6] bid retractions each in the past 6 months. Ebay should start booting people with more than one retraction

scuncio
07-21-2014, 06:57 PM
If I read the retraction history right, the SAME guy retracted TWO separate bids on this car. That is nuts.

Fast67VelleN2O
07-21-2014, 07:01 PM
If I were the seller, I would block every single bidder that retracted a bid.

the427king
07-21-2014, 07:08 PM
Rumor has it that one person offered the moon for it with no intention of buying. All hes done is made the car unsellable now anywhere near the true value . The seller thinks he hit the lotto and doesnt realize hes already gone past the real buyers . If you buy it now youve bid against casper.

the427king
07-21-2014, 07:14 PM
The only reason a person retracts a bid like that is to play games. The seller is going to learn a big ebay lesson unfortunately.

07-21-2014, 07:55 PM
Another one found! Not surprised to hear the bidding might be a bit shady. Was thinking how this one might finally bring decent money. There were a couple recently that were asking higher than usual $. Don't know if they sold or not. 4K cars are still undervalued in my opinion.

07-21-2014, 10:14 PM
All that and a SoCal car with original black plates. Very cool. (Why didn't he call Bill Thomas if he wanted a Nickey 427 or drive down to Dana in South Gate and order their 427 Camaro?)

mr 707
07-22-2014, 12:30 PM
the seller said the cost was about double to get the nickey.

Just looked at the l78 67 on ebay. Wow!Would make a great restoration project. The price so far is to high. You would have to pay about 30k max to make it a fair deal. I have done four frame restorations in the last 10 years and the costs are way higher then you think. With missing parts heads$$ carb$$ fan shroud$$ you would be buried deep on this one. Plus can the engine be repaired? Anyone else have thoughts on this car??

luzl78

It got its price because it's rust free, original drivetrain, original owner and loaded with options. New owner will be into the car for 120,000-140,000. I hope he/she has tons of money to restore it perfect

(302moz) the L78 at mecum that your referring to was a butternut yellow car with a NON matching motor, the seller at mecum stated the suffix and vin was decked for tolerance on a rebuild,(GREAT LINE)so there where no suffix code or vin on the motor I knew of the car years before, but the car did do very well I think it was 94k. so this car with the options and all original stuff, with paper work, (not a lot of 4k cars out there with paper work) should bring in the 120+ range, by far the Most Optioned 4k Hardtop to date with a Great Color

Fast67VelleN2O
07-30-2014, 03:01 PM
It would be a crime to restore this one to stock. Who wants to look at another 100% stock L78? Yawn. This one has the battle scars and the patina to draw a crowd over any stock restored 4K.

302moz

Do I need glasses? This car needs total restoration. It sat outside for thirty years. If that's the case all restoration shop should close.

07-30-2014, 09:24 PM
I'm in the clean it up and drive it camp.

I really appreciate a restored car but this would clean up pretty nice and without a ton of effort and really be a great patina'd car that would draw more attention than a restored car at a cruise night .............and you could drive the snot out of it and not worry about getting caught in the rain or a catching a rock chip.

Just saw this thread and I'm freaking out! I grew up less than 2 blocks away from 6251 Drexel Ave and had a friend that lived across the street from this guy.

I remember riding my bicycle (5 speed sting ray) down the street (pre speed bumps) and seeing that Camaro, what a mind blower! When I starting driving I'd see the car all the time just sitting in the driveway.

The original Chevy dealer was smack in the middle of the Beverly Hills business district and is long, long gone, the address of the body shop is a different location on Olympic Blvd and is now a strip mall.

Well time permitted me to pick up the two engines and haul home for rebuilding so what happened to "The Great Caswell" L-88 block.......upon inspection it appears that #1 rod had a bolt loosen then split in half causing the rod cap to bang around and exit the side of the oil pan, here's what's left of the bearing....

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2016/06/full-4954-45218-047.jpg

And damage the #2 piston boss as shown....other than that it has true L-88 internals, 7115 crank, 8911 cam, dimple rods, correct push rods, all with very little use.
