Uber cool car, for sure. I wonder, though....why are people bothering to bid on it? It clearly states (in two places, no less) that the car is going to be auctioned and gives the venue where the auction will take place. They probably put a $500K reserve on it or something outrageous, just getting some cheap advertising thru eBay....and there's nothing wrong with that as far as I'm concerned.

Awhile back we did a Musclecar of the week feature from the Brothers Collection that featured their black 429 SCJ convert.
http://musclecaroftheweek.com/index.php/...scj-convertible (http://musclecaroftheweek.com/index.php/ford-muscle-cars/18-muscle-car-of-the-week-video-16-1970-ford-torino-gt-429-scj-convertible)
Someone pointed out to me that it was incorrectly restored because it was missing the 429 emblems on the fenders. Notice this one owner car is also missing the 429 emblems.

My '70 429 SCJ Torino Cobra didn't have those emblems either, and the car was very original.

I owned a Grabber Blue 70 GT, 429 CJ auto car back in the late 90s. Original paint and no evidence of badges.

I had my buddy look at the car down at the auction today and he told me it's quite rough in person.

I just picked up their coffee table book &quot;Top Muscle&quot; where this car is featured and it is stunning to say the least.

Always been a fan of these. Both cars are stunning.
The Brothers car has dog dish caps, while the eBay car has Magnum 500 rims.
Were Magnum 500 rims a possible option on this car back in '70?
Also is that 15&quot; trunk tire original to it?

I like the car - - I watched it cross the auction block on the web - did a little over 30K. Looks like he should take the ebay
$$ on the car :-)

magnums were an available option on the GT, yes. The car would not have come with a full-size magnum wheel as a spare. The Marti report would identify whether this was an original magnums-equipped car.

If you zoom in on the picture of the marti report in the description you can see it has &quot;magnum 500 chrome wheels&quot; listed. Cool car!

So how is the sale of this car working - the Greensboro Auction didn't work out (meet reserve), so they are relying on eBay now?

Mr70

Thanks.
Also came across this that helps explain the tire size as original.
<span style="font-style: italic">New 1970 options included 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels with F60-15 tires and flat black &quot;Sport Slats&quot; for the rear window on the Torino GT.&quot;</span>

The seller just told me the car did not meet reserve in the N.C. auction yesterday,so now they are trying through ebay.
I guess where ever it met its reserve first, they would've cancelled the other auction.

GT CJs are much more rare than Cobra CJs. Plus, with the Detroit Locker feature, this one seems to be as desirable as it gets.

Mr70

And SCJ's are the rarest of both.

I DONT think the eBay bids are legit; thats not real money

I can assure you that one of them is from me,and is.
I recognize a few other honest bids too.

SCJ Cobras are not very rare. CJ GTs are rarer than SCJ Cobras.

THE OTHER black, unrestored Cobra Jet beauty that was at the SAME auction - this is where I would have put my bid:

But this car is a GT not a Cobra and a 429SCJ engine is a whole different animal.

SCJs may be the &quot;rarest of both&quot; but my point to him was that SCJs were not terribly rare for the Torino Cobra. Take a look at the two Marti Reports here.

This black car also had the Detroit Locker, which was only available for 4.30-equipped cars, although it's possibly a few anomalies exist. I believe the number for Cobras is 207, while for the GT fastback it's 12. All things being equal, a GT is going to be much rarer than an equivalent Cobra, even though most collectors prefer the Cobra.

Ok Im looking to further my educationon the CJ or SCJ cars, I had a yellow 70 729 4 speed bench seat 4 wheel drum brakes Cobra Torino - not a GT but someone had added the taillights(which I liked) it had the snake deals and 429 emblems on it, had a factory rev limiter bolted to the fender the sewer por D00E heads-with adjustable rockers and equal bore cast iron intake 3.90 gears I was always under the impression that it was a SCJ car not a CJ. would any of what I listed help prove either way? I dont know or remember the vin, its been gone about 15 years now, it never had the original short block in it, when I got it it had a broken rod and plenty of milkshake in the pan but it did start and idle in that condition (LOL) I built a 466 for it and has=d some street fun with it I wanted some custom plats that would of been 2tnsfn and it sure was 2 tons of fun! 3850lbs for a unibody car it was marginly faster than my lighter 427 Camaro. I sold it and a few years later recieved a call from a new owner wondering what I had done to the motor? I asked why and he stated because it ran so good - suprisingly this was 30k miles after I sold it. I do miss alot of my old cars....

thoughts on what my car was originally?

3.91 or 4.30 gears is a good indicator of SCJ
