Is this Wayne Schmeeckles' car in Colorado or is this a different one?

Dumb question, what's the round part at the bottom of the tag?

More info.

One of approx 25 NON-Canonsburg Jack Douglass ordered and sold Yenko Camaros.

Very unique part of Yenko and Super Car history.

Not a restored car, with lots of originality still maintained. Was completely repainted approx 10 years ago or so.

Believed to be one of only two such Dover White Douglass Yenkos ever built. The other one also exists.

There is a correct date cast RESTAMPED not original engine in the car, with not many miles on a rebuild.

Transmission is original and the BE rear is original.

Interior is mostly original.

Sheet metal, floor pans, trunk pans are all original with no patch work I have been able to detect.

( I believe that one door has been reskinned). The body is amazing.
Trim Tag and VIN tag never removed.

39,XXX mile history seems to be accurate based on ownership records.

I purchased this car from Bob Trez back in approx 2001, with a sketchy history and with info provided to me first hand by Jack Douglass. It has had two subsequent owners since.

Most of the history going back to the original owner has surfaced.

Documents to follow.

While this document does not pertain directly to this particular vehicle, it is important to the history of this Yenko.

This document is for the Yellow Douglass Yenko I had purchased from Dana Mecum / Mecum Collection, which now resides in the Brothers Collection. It was fastidiously restored by the Super Car Workshop for our very own Tony Lucas and is now featured on the cover of recent book. "Top Muscle".

I believe this was the first "official" certification of the Douglass Yenko history.

These are Bob Trez's hand written notes regarding the White Yenko he purchased Circa 1992.

He was not aware of the full Douglass Yenko history and thought he had a "Berger" Double COPO, becuase the car was almost a twin to Kevin Dewitt's Berger COPO, which Kevin still owns to this day.

This is the NICB info as it was provided to Bob Trez, directing the documentation trail back to Douglass Chevrolet.

This is a copy of a document, found in the Yenko estate archives owned and maintained by Tom Clary.

It was shared in the public eye, by Tom Clary. Had he not done so an important part of Yenko history may have been overlooked and misunderstood.

While there may never be 100% consensus on exactly what took place back then, this document goes a long way to show that Don Yenko was involved and aware of the scenario.

Note that the original copy of the Bill of Sale as well as customer copy of the retail installment contract both list "Yenko" as a description of the Camaro. These documents along with the POP were acquired from the original owner.

Lucky the original posted "Original Yenko Paperwork, $ 100" on Craigslist a few years ago. I was able to connect him with the current owner of this car who was only 30 minutes away. Nice to see the histories come together on cars like this.

Having the original owner as well as the original Documents verifying that this Double COPO was indeed sold new as a "Yenko" was a great way to complete the history to date.

The other white Yenko is the very next body # to this one. Milt Robson had discovered the original engine at a local machine shop and title traced the VIN. He found the car under a car port with Yenko designation, but knew nothing about the Douglass history. He decided to restore his car as a Yenko and it wasn't until after he sold it that the current owner became aware of it's history as well.

Technically it was hammered at $225,000.00 and total sale price is $225k plus 10% auction premium or $247,500.00.

Mr70

Is that 10% charged to the buyer or seller?

mockingbird812

bet it's both.

Stefano
01-24-2016, 06:32 PM
Posted fees and commissions for Kisssimmee are 10% to the buyer AND 10% to the seller. The auction house collects from both. Some auction quote results with buyers premium and some do not, but most all major collector car auctions contractually collect from both sides.

Stefano, I've read from mecum that there is competition between the different auction companies (mecum, B-J, etc.) for the big, crowd drawing high end cars. I hadn't ever thought about it before but it does make sense. So, that being said, would you think it's safe to say that Schmeeckle's huge collection of cars likely were charged less than the routine 10% ?

Just curious as to your thoughts.

To me it would only be speculating on something that at this point is between the auction company and seller. My understand is he sold 18 of 22 cars for a very good sell rate.

I would agree with Paceme.

it takes the same amount of time, space, and effort to sell a $ 20,000 car as a $ 2,000,000 car, so id say a power seller could and should get a better rate if they have 10 or 12 million dollars worth of cars and have set realistic reserve.

Im sure in most cases they do. There is no one in the business easier to deal with or more willing to make a deal happen than Dana.

Thanks chuck and nugeusa1. It does seem that Dana tries very hard to make the entire auction experience a positive one for everyone involved. Heck, they even have a tv show about their deal making. In my short experiences with frank and Dana they made it a great time for me, as a bidder.

There is no doubt that Dana would work with the seller on sales commission if selling multiple cars at same auction.
