1968 Oldsmobile Ram Rod W31

Here is a Kool Oldsmobile we recently aquired. Only 500 were ever produced all 4 speed and most had the 3.91 gears. Of the 500 there is only a scant percentage surviving and with docs. This is the only Black with Red/Garnet interior Ram Rod I am familiar with.

A/C and power brakes were not an option.

Stefano, the invoice indicates the car had a G.T. Stripe. I'm not sure what that looks like. Has the car been repainted? 69 bucks to delete a radio?

Stefano

The G.T. Stripe is what the car is wearing now. It follows the stainless side trim.

The buckets are original and have been recovered with incorrect material at some point.

It was a Deluxe AM radio car, but now has an original radio delete plate in the dash.

It has had some paint work, but is still very original overall.

Thanks for the clarifications, Stefano.

The common number of these cars produced is quoted as 700, but only 500 complete cars and another 200 or so extra warranty engines were produced. This car is to have one of the original replacement engines, but I do not know how to decode it. Can anyone help?

Very neat car! Is that the original ram-rod decal on the fenders?

That is one sexy ride.

I was under the impression the purchaser was given a cost reduction when they deleted items like the radio. Did it really cost 69 dollars not to install? I haven't added up all the items, is it a deduction?

Thanks guys.

This car came with a radio. The prior owner put in the delete plate.

I don't know about the sticker? It looks like its been on there a while.

GREAT CAR Stefano!
My dad had a 68 442 new white with blue interior GT stripe and SS1's, it is the first vehicle I ever rode in... home from the hospital as a newborn.
We have looked for years for another 68 with the GT stripe, this is the first I have seen.

Thanks.

What a fun car you had to grow up with.

We changed out all the drivetrain fluids it appears that the rear was never opened up.

Still has the original 3.91 gears in great shape.

Stefano, I sent you pics of my warranty replacement W-31 engine pad numbers. The style of the lettering and numbers is identical. You are welcome to post them here for comparison. Mine, too are punched upside down.

Thats from my neck of the woods! About 1/2 hr from me. Martin Olds in CH and Royal Olds in Richmond were the only Olds dealers around here. My Viking blue 71 W-30 that I used to have came from Royal.

----Hard to believe that the Smothers Bros Ram Rod ran in SS/F and the Truppi LS6 Convert ran in SS/E. The Ram Rods must have run really good.....Bill S
