Hi All,
Does anyone have a diagram or web link showing the differences between between radios among years and models of Chevrolets? Camaros, Novas, and Chevelles? I have a 1969 radio I thought was for a Camaro but it does not fit the dash carrier so I naturally thought it was for a different year or model.
Any support would be superb.
Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
The 69 radios are basically the same for Camaro,Chevelle,Nova, and Impala in both mono and stereo configurations. The 69 version is the only year with slanted rear cooling fins. 69 versions also have a multiplex output plug. The mono version will need the multiplex eliminator plug if you don't plan to use the multiplex adapter.
70-72 radios are dimensionally the same with the 70 radio having a green top lens(except Camaro) and 71-72 having a blue top lens. . I have put a 70-72 radio in 69 models, it is just a bit tight. All these radios should have a 6 1/4 center to center shaft spacing.

Hi Jason, thanks so much for the info.
I'll post pics this weekend for you and the group to check out. The dash is original which leads me to believe the radio is not correct?
Thanks,
Dan

If the radio still has the label on it, you may be able to decode it using this link:

I have another great reference site bookmarked http://www.wonderbarman.com/codes.html but it doesn't work for me right now, not sure if it's down for good or just having tech issues....

I think there is a difference too from 69 versus the 70's models but I don't know for sure. My Z was radioless when I bought it so I installed one from a 70 Chevelle to fill the hole. From what I understand and I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, sorry guys no biggy, with the radio off on a 69, the dial light is off too, and when you turn on the dash lights the light still doesn't come on until the radio is turned on. IIRC the radio I put in my Z, the dial light comes on with the dash lights even if the radio is off. Of course this is for the AM radio, so I don't know about the stereo radios.

There was a change in the wiring harness connection right around that time. As I recall, there is a short connector harness that will solve the problem when putting a 70 radio in a 69.

Thanks guys
I'm way behind because of business travel and some (good) personal stuff. Just haven't had the time like I wanted. Hopefully Sunday will be easier for me

While swapping some of these radios you also have to be concerned with the spacing between the knobs. If I remember right, the early Camaros had a spacing of approx 6 1/4 inches.
