here is the regulator that was on the car when I bought it back in 1975 http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2014/09/full-4769-15777-dscn2850.jpg

Wow that is an archaic looking device. Does it have a brand name and model number? I guess I could get used to it. I threw on an gas station service part "Atlas" Brand mechanical VR on mine for many years while I was working on her and her horn relay was mounted upside-down which I left when I replaced the Atlas with and Airtex/Wells Solid State VR unit.

I think GM offered a solid state VR as an option, or as HD racing equipment. That was hi-tek for 1975.

I believe GM had transistorized voltage regulators in 1966, maybe earlier. I think it was part of a 62 amp alternator option.
