I didn't know that the '55 in Two Lane Blacktop was the same one driven by Harrison Ford in American Graffity couple years later.

Yup, fairly well-known fact.

Yup, fairly well-known fact. And Harrison Ford was successful in NOT blowing up the tranny like JT.

I don't think Harrison drove all the 2 lane 55's though. Is the one for sale used in both?

Just can't keep a hyperdrive motivator in that thing...

There were several cars used for the films. I believe the one offered for sale is the number two car for Two Lane Black Top only.

The Star / Feature #1 car used in both films is still in the hands of a private collector.

The number one car had a 4 speed and an L88 427, the number 2 car had a 454 and a 4 speed, while the Camera car had a 454 and an automatic.

The #1 car has a set of heads I sold the current owner a few years back ..NOS 074s with late 69 dates

Somebody asked me yesterday what I thought the TLB/AG '55 would sell for and I really have no idea whatsoever. Some people think it's a million dollar car while a surprisingly high number of people are unfamiliar with the TLB movie. EVERYBODY knows American Graffitti though. After saying that, it makes me wonder if the car would be worth more painted Black in AG livery. Maybe this car should've been one of those "split" restorations where one side of the car is grey primer and the other side in black!

The car for sale was not used in American Grafitti, just Two Lane Black Top, from what I remember.

The #1 Car was the feature car in both and being restored to as it was in American Grafitti.

The car with the highest value is the #1 Car, IMO.

Don't get me wrong. I believe that both have value, but that the #001 car used as the feature car in both films has even more significance.

Photo when Steve Fitch owned both cars..He bought the '32 for something like $1500-1800 sealed bid from the movie co..

He sold them in the early 80's I'm thinking he was asking 25k for the coupe and 15k for the '55..

'55 for sale is the 'camera' car, used for the interior shots, only used in TLB
the exterior shot '55 was reused in AG and is being restored to the AG car
took these at york in '09...

I believe that the car they "rolled" and the car they raced were two different cars. (It's a movie !)
You can see that the car they rolled didn't have a straight axle front end

When Steve Fitch owned both cars..He owned the #1 AG car the one Harrison Ford actually drove in AG.

Both cars were very rough when he got them from the movie studio.

In addition to the obvious Turbo 400 & custom transmission crossmember in the AmGraff roll-over car it also had an Early Olds/Pontiac rear axle in it. I don't think that was just some junkyard car that got flipped.

IMO the yellow 32 Ford from AG is the most iconic movie car of all time.

So the tunnel ram and Holleys were swapped out for AG in favor of a 4bbl, yes? Or is the #1 AG car actually the #2 TLB car...? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/crazy.gif

License plate from Milners car. As most people know, Lucas would reference his 1st movie(THX 1138)in all his later movies. He started the whole 50's thing with AG

Nope - the car they raced and the car they rolled are the same car. It's the TLB number 3 car with Turbo 400 and 454 - IT WAS THE ONLY CAR OF THE THREE WITH STOCK FRONT SUSPENSION, so no straight axle. It survived the roll, had front end sheetmetal stripped and replaced and was used as a circle track car...dunno where it is now.

But it burned you say? Nope. According to AG expert Jeff Hamrick (and his photo) the burn car was a separate scene done on a different day. It WAS a junkyard dog - as seen in this publicity shot found by Jeff - see: NO radiused wheel well.

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2014/11/full-3497-17971-burn55.jpg

check wheel well:

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2014/11/full-3497-17972-radius.jpg

check again:

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2014/11/full-3497-17973-burncar.jpg

And why does that roof post in the burn car look so odd compared to the actual post of a '55? It seems to be burning apart...because it's a piece of wood - burn car was a hardtop so a piece of wood was affixed for the scene for "continuity". Guess when it came to the wheel well they said screw it, who cares. Add to that the trunk open, not open thing...

Here is the AG race/rollover car on the set of TLB as the #3 454 Turbo 400 camera rig car, before filming, all rigged up with camera scaffolding - see how low the front sits? No straight axle:

Well they (Henry Travers - car caretaker for AG) swapped out the tunnel ram, cuz Fitch's car was a straight axle M22 car.

Someone post the picture of the TLB '55 camera car with the two inoperative Holleys jerry-rigged so that they were visible from inside the car on camera. (I don't know: Third base.)

In the drag scene at the end of AG 3 cars were used. The #1 car with the single carb started the race. The roll over scene was the #2 car. Once the car was upside down car on fire it became a 4 dr from a local salvage yard with plywood on the sides trying to hide the fact that it was a 4 dr. It was taken back to the salvage yard after filming. This is according to the story on the yuku website.

The inside shots of Harrison Ford driving on the street with Cindy Williams were done with the automatic trans #2 camera car. All 3 cars used in TLB were 4 speeds. One was destoryed during filming according to the yuku site. The story is a good read check it out.

I got a good look at the #1 AG car back in '75. At the time it was owned by Sam Crawford of Dixon,CA. The car was entered in the Vacaville Fiesta Days Parade (Vacaville is 12 miles from Dixon). About half way thru the parade route the car stated over heating. Myself along with some other friends pushed the car off of the parade route. The car had a single Holley on it at that time and still had the straight axle and coilover shocks. The car was pretty rough at that time.

The Two Lane Blacktop car was also used on an episode of Adam-12; I am sure that must have been prior to the filming of American Graffiti.
