Cars sent to zone office

When a car was ordered and sent to a zone office for someone to use, was a pop issued to the zone office or when the zone office was done with car and sent to a particular dealer was a pop made by the dealer? Because it was a used car did the 2nd dealer after the zone office was done with car issue a pop for the next consumer buyer? Thanks

That's a great question, I always wondered that myself. I looked at 65 l79 corvette years ago that was delivered to a zone office in Detroit and the car had the original protecto plate but I forgot where it was issued to. Would the warranty start regardless of miles after GM was done with car???

Anybody out there have an original zone car with the pop for it? Is it the zone or the next dealer?

Can only relate my personal experience, but when I owned the Baltimore pilot LS6, the POP was issued by the selling dealer to the first retail owner. It was a zone CC.

My personal opinion is that the warranty started with the first retail customer, as the zone office was in fact still Chevrolet. I could be wrong, lord knows I have been in the past, but I would suspect the protect-o-plate to carry the name of the first retail customer and show the dealer that was the first retail selling dealer. I know in the case of dealer trades, the window sticker will show the original dealer the protect-o-plate will show the selling dealer.

today warranty expiration is added to miles showing when delivered, if you do a dealer trade and they drive your car 500 miles to get it to the new dealer the warranty is on top of that 500 miles.

Where was the protecto-plate generated?? The final product was produced obviously after the car was sold because has buyers name. I always assumed the protecto-plate came from GM and was with warranty/phamplet package when arrived at dealwership ? and the dealer added the tape w buyers name?

but...just an assumption... anyone?

I believe that my 1967 Camaro was a zone car. The protecto plate has the first owners name on it with a delivery date of 9-29-66 (the first day Camaro's went on sale).
The warranty booklet has the Chevrolet Dealer listed as CHEVROLET CENTRAL OFFICE, with a ED Rinke Chevrolet listed at the bottom. It looks like the warranty started right away based on the dates in the warranty booklet. The Camaro was returned to the Ed Rinke Chevrolet dealership and sold in November 1968.

Was there a warranty when the first owner bought it from rinke or was the warranty for the person in the zone office? Do you think that when the car was built that it was already known that rinke was gonna be the 2nd owner?

The booklet was issued in Sept 66, and there are 3 dates in the booklet for warranty validations all prior to the second owner purchasing the car in Nov 1968. I would assume that the first owner was the person in the zone office and the warranly was for that person.

Just got the NCRS report for my 67 Camaro.
Dealer code 500 in zone 0 (Chevrolet Division), with production date of 09/23/1966.
