I have been really digging for info on this old 70 Camaro race car that I own. Back story is that it was sold new at Hallowell Chevrolet in June/July of 1970 and was orange. It was later painted with yellow and black paint. It was also run with Jenkins engines, and worked on at SRD race cars. It turned out to not be the Hallowell car. A guy who worked the parts counter at Hallowell back in 1970(Tom McCrea) says he remembers checking in an orange Camaro for the Wheatley Borthers who intended to run pro stock with it. Since their 68 Camaro was yellow and black, this lead has some promise. Does any of this ring a bell with anyone?

How about this? A few years later, sold to a guy named Ronnie Staples, and named the Prospector. Still wearing the grump hood, but now with the big tires and slotted mags that were on it in the earliest pictures the previous owner gave me with the car. I even have proof that it was a pro-stocker!

Photo that I got with the car. Taken at Pittspurgh in the mid/late 70's.

great pictures! Top picture looks like the 12 bolt setup while Staples went the narrowed rear/subframe route as time as Pro Stock evolved. Car was probably not competitive so they ran Modified Eliminator like most ex pro Stockers of that day did. That is a great find.

I like how it looks with the stock 12 bolt and Keystones.

Actually right from day one the car had a Dana 60 in it,mounted on Mopar super stock springs. That is why the rear wheels sit too far forward. The car started life as a Hugger orange 307 powered 3 speed stick car with no options. One thing I want to look into is the front brakes it looks like it has drums. The car now has the Kelsey Hayes brakes that were put on it a year or two later. The car is going to stay mini rubbed and wit slotted mags. The current roll cage, and chassis work all date back to the Ronnie Staples days.

Rich,
I was about to send a link to this thread to Ronnie, but I see you've already made contact with him. I remember that car well back in the day. Probably around 1971 or 72. Yep he probably has a bunch of pics.
