Guys

I have two garages, the one at home is just for parking the car I want to use that week. I live 5 miles from my business and have two bays in an industril building that are used to store and restore cars.

Two bays of 700 sq ft each, one is the workshop and the other just for storing cars and tires&quot;
The floor is two part epoxy from Home depot, applied in Jan 2014 along with baseboards and a repaint on the walls. The colors are Sunoco Blue and yellow for the hoist and Lemans/Gulf colors on trim.

My cabinets are all rollers do thay can be moved closer to the car, Shelving is ezrect in different configurations

The hoist is a Hoffman screwjack style with 8000 lb capacity
Other tools are Sandblast cabinet, Homemade paint booth from a file cabinet,Full air throughout shop, heater. Compressor is a Campbell Hausfield dual phase, 5 HP with 80 gallon tank.
The lighting above the rolling tool cabinets are LED strips.
The wood cabinets have bben position well above the floor for storing latge bulky items. By moving the roller cabinets I can store two cars side by side.

That is a wine cooler and a full size fridge, we have no basement in our house so the wine cooler is in the garage along with the overflow fridge.

Eric, I had all types of shops in mind when I suggested this thread and yours is the type of shop that folks round here want to see. It is definitely a working shop - no posing around there! Folks want to see the working environment of the carburetor genius!!!!

I like this new section so here's what I have.
Nothing special or over the top like some I've seen. Being a carpenter held me in good stead when I did an extension to my house and built a new garage a few years ago. I was drag racing at the time and didn't really think I would ever have a hoist and as such didn't care too much about head height, so needless to say I fall a little short of being able to store one car over the other. A real pain now. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif Anyway, here it is and some of my junk in it over the last few years.

Defending Eric and speaking from LOTS of experience, one does not have to have a spit polished shop to produce a great product. I worked out of a 2 1/2 car garage for 20 years restoring cars. Finally moved to a much larger shop with space for 6 cars (thought there are 12 in there) and NOT proud of either shop. Some day I will have a spit polished shop! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

WOW!!! There are some pretty cool shops on this thread! I just recently was able to move into mine after buying it last November. We let the people we bought it from rent it out for a few months until I couldn't stand it anymore <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/mad.gif And so finally, they're out, and I'm in!!! WooHoo!!!!

I'm located in a place called Garage Oasis and there are about 100+ units in here. Some own 6+ units and have them interconnected. Really slick. Most are show piece style mancaves with every new tool know to man hanging neatly on the wall. Then you come to the riff-raff section of town, like me, and have a shop &quot;shop&quot; <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif The way I figure it, we can use my shop to get dirty and then go to the other shops and have happy hour after a hard day's work! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Mine is 1500 sq. ft. with 25ft ceilings. Roll up doors either end. I built all the benches and lined them all with power strips. The one side of the shop has my compressor, air dryer, blasting cabinet, and a 3/4&quot; Rapid Air pressure line running down the length of the shop with an outlet at each bench and two retractable 50ft hose reels. The end outlet is a dedicated tire pressure station and is close to the roll-up door. The cabinet is connected to a &quot;T&quot; with a shut off so a simple turn of the valve and I'm aired up for blasting.

Having had three other shops, I tried to make this as ergonomic as I could to get the most work done as quickly as I could. The other side of the shop has a parts washing station, my library of service manuals/catalogs, and more tables/shelves as well as two 50ft retractable hose reels. Electric/Air can reach every corner of the shop to include outside each roll up door by a car's length. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

The plan at the end of the year is to build a mezzanine that is 24ftx24ft for storage of parts and such. That'll be the next step..Phase II!!! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif I call it &quot;The Classic Car Hangar&quot; where my classic car dreams take flight! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Of course a lot more crazy crap and signs to put on the wall, and maybe one of those Big A$$ Fans too. The shop has heat and A/C as well, but to help out the air flow I mounted two 22&quot; three-speed oscillating fans on opposite ends of the work benches so I can have air on my at any place in the shop and the fan isn't intrusive.

The Chevelle I bought in December last year. It was owned by the same family since 1972. Blew a head gasket in 1993 and parked it in his garage. Originally, an L34, M-21, 3.55 posi, tach and gauges car with parchment bench seat interior, Lemans Blue exterior. The paint you see is original. The engine was grenaded sometime in the 1980's and is long gone. Had a '70 396 in it with a suffix code for a Monte Carlo. I do have the original M-21 and the rear end is original to the car as well. I will have to find a date code correct L34 for it.

I bought the car for $3500 and it came with two new NOS fenders, NOS wheel moldings and a bunch of other misc. parts. I sold the non-original 396, an extra Super T-10 4 speed that came with it, as well as all kinds of non-original parts. It worked out well as now, I am only into the car around $1000 (net) and I still have the NOS fenders and some other parts for it.

I just finished the Nova restoration in record time of 2 years, 1 month. I promised my wife I would not restore this car right away, or at least not spend a bunch of money on it right away. I will start disassembling it in the near future, but I likely won't finish it for 3-4 years. Too many other things to focus on, including a 6 year old and a 1 year old.

When I do restore it, I will use more reproduction parts than I typically like to, but being that it isn't an L78, I don't want to go through the expense of extensive NOS parts as I would end up too far underwater for an L34 car. I do really like the color combination and plan to keep it when complete.

I live on Puget Sound in Seattle. The round traps are crab pots. We catch Dungeness Crab here in the summer and fall. The green, square traps are shrimp pots. We catch Pacific Spot Prawns here in May (short season). Also, do a lot of salmon fishing the summer.

My step-dad and I are finally putting together our shop. An old pole barn that has been sitting empty for 5 years. We will be doing all the work ourselves. First order of business was clean out.

Sam. The tiles are just cheap peal/stick from Menards(.55 cents/sf). They stay in place, but if one happens to get damaged, you just peal it up and slap another one down!Lol

We were in Washington, Il. yesterday, and our son Dave asked me to take a ride in his '68 Camaro. I haven't ridden in it since 1990. It has a VERY STRONG 406 small black in it, with a Turbo 350, highly modified auto trans with Kevlar bands and a 3200 stall convertor. It also has a 4:10 12 bolt rear end. The suspension is set up for drag racing. (Drag shocks in the rear, 80/20 shocks in the front with the sway bar unattached.) Morosso front drag springs, traction bars on 7 leaf springs. The frame has been tied, too. He starts the damn thing up, and it explodes to life. I don't think more than 2 teeth had engaged the fly wheel. 10.5 compression, and a new Holley annular discharge carb. ($789.00!!) We left his house and traveled about 2 miles at a slow pace to warm up the engine. All this time, my teeth were rattling in my head and my vision is blurred! When we got to Rt. 24 he makes the turn onto eastbound 24 and nails it in 2nd gear. He has the very sticky M&amp;H drag slicks on it, the front end wants to come up off the road, and the tires are trying desperately to get a hold of the pavement and it spun for about 10 ft., and hooked like it was on a geared track!! I could not hear or see because the car exploded into this ear shattering roar (3&quot; exhaust all the way back from 1-7/8&quot; long tube headers.) I about shit my pants! I could not see, my eyes were shaking in their sockets and my head was so far back I was looking at the head liner! It wound up instantly and he shifted into 3rd...the same thing....ear splitting roar, 10' of rubber, wound up instantly and I shit my pants again! By this time we are well over 120 mph, I really don't know how far over 120 because the speedometer only goes to 120!! My guess was 130-140. So then he turns around at Cummings Rd. and starts the same thing, only this time it's in first gear. It was such a violent launch, the car shook for about 10' because now the slicks are hot and the traction was superb, instantly up to 6500 RPM, and I mean INSTANTLY!! 2nd gear, the same thing, INSTANTLY up to 6500 RPM, then finally in 3rd gear, the front end settles down and it's really pulling now, way over 130-140. I'm guessing 10 seconds in the quarter mile. I will never forget that ride, I've been in some really fast rides, but NEVER have I witnessed the shear, brute force of this Camaro. The only word to describe that car is VIOLENT! When it's all over and the car is in the garage, I'm finding it hard to walk, to see and hear, then he tells me he did NOT hit the nitrous button (150 shot)!

here are my garage updates, take my advice with a grain of salt, as everyone's opinion should be treated that way. I just thought I would share some of the things that worked for me:

Here is a shot of of where my furnance blows (I hated the ugly ductwork that ran along the top of the wall, it screwed up the open look I had before the ductwork went in). Furnance works FINE without the duct work but I do fear I have too close of an air return path, but <span style="font-style: italic">for now it is fine for me</span>. My garage is essentially 50 x 24~30 and I see no reason for ductwork, it is the same temp all over the garage. I do have plans to install a fan at the top end of my ceiling in the open area (not above car lifts) to create more of a drafting (suction) effect on the furnance. Electric and bracing already there.

I went with a lennox knock off furnance (Dukane) (I think 93% efficient). A local fireman installs these on the side and gets them close to cost. It was stupid cheap for the whole setup, and he had it in under an 1hr before he added the other ductwork I since removed. Furnance has worked well. I did not want a system that would take air from inside the garage for combustion.

Below are the garage door rails that hug the truss ceiling. I have gotten a lot of compliments from car buddies on that. I highly recommend doing this if you can.

Below is my crazy work area. Only good things are I am actually using the space now. I got a stainless table at cabellas that they sell for meat preparation, that is a TANK! It was only $75 during a sale and I want to get a few more. Check them out, I plan to work on a transmission on one this weekend. Tomorrow my friend brings over the engine for the vette so we can start getting the car 'gone', then I can put 4 wheel discs on the cuda convert. I got my tool cabinet on a black friday sale, so I finally got a clean organized place for my tools! I am very happy with the HD craftsman box.

Soooo, with the truck done and the Bee on the horizon, I thought to myself, &quot;Self, sure would be nice to have a bigger paint booth...and a mezzanine for storage....and another car that had maybe, oh, a hundred grand stashed in the trunk!!&quot; Knowing the latter wouldn't be realistic for many reasons, I built this little thing over the past month. The goal was to make it look like an old Gulf Service Station (well, in my mind, anyway! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif) and I'm just about done! These pics show the framing, running the air pipe, and stairs. I used 2x8 joists and everything is bolted to the floor and the wall so in case I drive into it (with that new car with the $100K in the trunk) it won't move. So, the final outcome with my custom art touches. I couldn't find a large enough Gulf sign locally, so I painted one myself! And I painted the whole building in the Heritage Gulf Racing colors, since this is about the closest I'll get to owning a Ford GT in those colors. I made an antiquey-style air stand that I still need to detail up. And it actually works! The exhaust fan is belt driven so the motor is up and out of the paint fumes. It goes through a series of filters then exits the door through a port to the outside. One filters intake and two filtered exhaust ports. The last item is to stick the tile down on the floor since here it's just laid out to make sure the pattern is correct.

Time to start painting!!!

I did everything you see here, except the electrical work. I figured that an electrician would be able to do it way faster than I would. Plus, knowing Mikey and the razzing I'd take if for some reason I turned on my fan motor here in TX and his house went dim up in OH, I'd never hear the end of it! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif So with the electrical fee, supplies, etc., this whole booth project was $4,652.17. I coated the upper floor with that decking surface restoration junk that Lowe's has. It leaves a hard, textured surface and fills in the gaps on the OSB board. Came out great! I have some left over and will probably hit the stair treads with it too. The floor inside the booth will have painter's floor covering paper on it that's disposable, so when done it'll go into the trash and the booth remains clean. Plus, I can keep a car in there when not in use. You know, that one with the $100K in the trunk! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

that paint booth gave me an idea to convert my last bay into a booth. That is one nice achievement (I hate being reminded of doing drywall, those pics brought back those bad memories). I like the peelable coating for the floors for when u paint.

What that means in real life terms is, taking the 2nd to last flight and getting in at 10:45pm after sitting at the airport all day on the non-rev list, the couch with a few towels spread across it, a can of Spaghetti Os since Kelly ain't coming, and us calling it even since I already owe you for looking at that Judge for me.

1992 was the last year for the &quot;square&quot; Broughams. In '93, GM went to a more &quot;round&quot; body style for the big Cads.

It's been some time since there were some new entries on here. So here is an update! For about four years Lloyd Costley (Edgemont Village)and myself have been looking for a suitable commercial building to purchase to combine our workshops, have some rental space and invest in a property that could give us a decent appreciation over time.
We viewed over 30 properties over the past four years and submitted 6-8 offers that just went no where.
In Nov 2015 we were shown a 3500 sq ft building about to be listed and got an offer in right away. Our offer subject to minimal conditions was accepted immediately with a Mar 1 2016 closing.
Attached are some early photos, overgrown property 50x50 rear yard. The main area is a 2600 SQ ft open shop with 14 ft ceilings in 1500 sq ft, 300 sq ft low ceiling , a Devillbis Paint Booth and plenty of storage in the old office areas, 900 sq ft.

We knew we had work ahead of us as this 60 year old building needed a lot of upgrades to get to code. The building was sound with a new roof, East and West walls were concrete block and the posts and beams were solid redwood.

Thought I'd share a few shots of my place where I hope to start on a new 2400' shop in the next year or two as time permits. In the meantime, I utilize a matching pair 750 sq ft triple garages to house the cars, my oil &amp; gas collection and enough space to include a workshop with one lift and my tools. One garage is for clean car storage while the second is used as a workshop. I have a 14'x 20' paint booth built off the second garage and will build a new one when a bigger shop is completed. I enjoy GM muscle cars and I'm pretty heavily involved (addicted) with oil and gas items as well.

Nice collection of cars Earl. And a VERY impressive collection of gas pumps and signs.

I only have a couple of old signs, both Studebaker related. Because I have a 49 Studebaker truck, I got a moth eaten banner touting the new lift the hood access, and a used car sign encouraging to Always Buy Certified. Studebaker had certified pre owned waaaay back in the day.
In fact, on the subject of being ahead of its time in some areas, my 53 Commander has a hill holder solenoid, something I just saw Lincoln touting on new cars. It also has a lock up converter, something the General didn't mess with until the 80's.

Anyway, here are pics of my pathetic sign collection, along with a couple of most of the current stable.
I am really looking forward to building a separate work shop. I am tired of working on stuff in this garage. Gets all the cars dirty.
We bought the building next door. Supposed to meet with the building inspector next week to get an idea of what I can do.

Here are a couple neat (at least I think so) cabinets Im pulling from my dads shop and will be going in my garage after I refinish them. Currently have shelves on the walls which I dont like plus I am cleaning, patching and painting all the walls in the current garage so when our 5 year plan starts on getting this house sold and some land bought it'll be one less think to worry with. I also am gonna redo my Kellogg air compressor and repaint it and try to clean it up a bit.

Did a little cleaning with a solution I came up with that doesnt seem to hurt decals and breaks down grease.. I think I will try to save the door &amp; decals and see about matching to color for the rest of the cabinet and continue the tradition of applying more decals down the road.

Finally finished painting the garage and losing most of the clutter.. I also utilized attic space and did some organizing as well. If the car part would fit in a tote then it was labeled on the outside of said tote for inventory purposes and then stored away.. Sadly I do not have the room for everything at the house presently but hopefully once this one goes on the market I can buy/build what I need..

A few months ago I posted some pictures of one of my garages (http://www.yenko.net/forum/showthread.php?t=130121&page=16)stuffed with some oil and gas collectibles and at the end was a picture of my second garage which is used as a work shop. Well last week one of my employees and I got busy and finally painted that second shop since I was tired of looking at taped drywall which was a bit dark and dingy to work in. We replaced all the lighting with six new T8 fixtures with daylight bulbs, and then went to town on the walls with a fresh coat of paint to brighten things up some. The work bench got a new steel counter top and we then hung a few signs to give it a new feel. Still have some work to do and a few more signs to hang but wow what a difference this made with paint and lighting.

The old bench was measured up for a new 3/16" steel counter top.

Next up was to finish painting the ceiling to rid those old tape lines.

Added an engine run cart since 3 engines are being built and will need testing.

Next up I am going to replace the door openers with the newer side mount systems to provide more clearance for cars being put on the lift. I only have 10'4" ceilings so I'm trying to make the best use of this space. I'll post a couple more pics when I finish things up in the next few weeks.

Picked up a new sign for the shop. Just got it un-crated and hope to have it hung up tomorrow. Still looking for a couple GM Neon signs to add to a Chevrolet themed wall I hope to finish up over the summer. A few character marks on this one but I like these signs like that.

Back to work on getting my work shop finished up and organized. After painting and doing my bench top, it was finally time to start plumbing some new air lines using 1/2" black pipe. Comes out of the compressor and feeds a regulated oil fed line (left) with one outlet by the counter top, and one up to a ceiling mounted hose reel that will go just above the back corner of the lift on Friday.

The other feed goes immediately up to the right of the compressor and tomorrow that line will go right across the top to the other side of the shop where it drops down to a clean trio of water traps with desiccant filter before going out to my paint room and sand blast cabinet. I have have three water drop traps for bleeding off any moisture and I hope to have it all finished by Friday night or Saturday AM.

Also ran another comms cable out yesterday and installed a shop phone to pickup my business lines so I can answer business calls when out working on my project cars. Gotta stay connected to keep business rolling along.

Another upgrade we did yesterday was the installation of a couple new IP Cameras in the back shop. I own a security company so we're always tweaking the systems with new products and adding the latest commercial grade cameras and security products. These shots look wicked in daylight, and also provide sharp clear images in B&W mode when the shop is pitch black inside.

Been busy with my shop while moving gas pumps and signs around to cleanup the house garage. Trying to get this one cleaned up so it's more of a display garage for the cars rather than a large collection of oil & gas collectibles. At the same time, I put up another wall mural which really added some pop to this wall above the red cabinets. Ties in nicely with the lower cabinet colors.

My son, my wife(great big thank you for their help!) and I did insulation, sheet rock (56 sheets of it!) thought we would never finish hanging rock
boy did it get small fast. I love having my own lift and A/C

Just recently I found these cool STP Signs straight from an old Nascar crew chief who had them from the 60's. Pit boards on the backside to call the drivers to the pits. Can you guess who he crewed for?

There are tons of lifts out there now with the Chinese having driven the prices way down. Some of them are really good with high quality ramps, decent pumps and are completely powder coated. This one came from a local distributor who's sold thousands of them now and I couldn't be happier with it. Was in the $2500 range when I bought it and is rated for 8000lb.

Came with Poly casters for easy moves, drip trays, drip tarp, H/D tool tray and scissor jack for the tray. Pays to shop around.

Hi guys !
I haven´t been that active on this forum the past year and the reason is the brickbuilding in the pic. For some years I have been looking for an old gasstation/garage closer to the coastline so that I can spend time in the garage while the kids and grandkids go to the beach. Well, last march I found something I couldn´t resist. It´s an old dairy from around 1898, originally built using yellow bricks. But in the 30´s, 40´s and 50´s they expanded the building to about twice the size of the original one, using red bricks instead. It is now something like 3725 Square feet in ground level.

One day last week I first went to the dairy and then in the evening I went to pick up a L78 shortblock for the Nova. While going back home with the shortblock in the car I came up with the idea of showing you the building that will house a garage in the future. As you can see there is no garagedoor so that I can get a car in from the yard. But before making that happen I will have to make the place suitable for living. There has always been people living in the building, but I think we need another level of comfort.

Here is a pic (of the original smaller building) that I have dated by identifying the Ford model T on the left and also the one on the right. The right one was registered in may of 1927 and the left one was scrapped in dec of 1929. So the pic was taken during the summer of 1927, -28 or -29. In the late 19´th century butter was an important product for our country. I believe at least 5% of the export revenue came from butter.

Pic was taken the first day we had access to it so dirt and stuff was left by the old owner. The cooling machine on the left was built by a subsidiary to the York Shipley Company in Pa. I believe one of Shipley´s sons started the english company.

Finished up the GM reline today and got 4 of the 5 signs hung up. Need to find a few AC Delco filler signs for the window area, reline the wall behind the pumps, then lay out the race deck flooring to finish it off. Hopefully I'll get to that before the snow melts. (baha)

I use those glass cases myself and have filled a couple of them now. Out in my other shop now.

This photo of the "cooling machine" the pipes leading off of the machine appear to be wrapped with a plaster coating...
I think you are going to find this is insulation, the last plant I looked at purchasing which had pipes with a coating which looked similar to what is pictured was asbestos, given the era of the building and the appearance of the machinery THAT should be checked before creating a health hazard of free asbestos dust released where you are going to be working.
