Quote:

Organizers looking at new locations this weekThe original granddaddy of them all, Cars and Coffee in Irvine, Calif., may have poured its last cup -- at least at its current location. The Dec. 27 gathering of the storied Saturday morning event will be the last one held at the Mazda HQ lot.
Soon it will be moved to a new location, which we should find out about later this week.Current apartment buildings and hotels adjacent to the lot, as well as new apartment construction, necessitated the move.“There were already some noise complaints,” says organizer and ex-Ford employee John Clinard, "and there are more apartments going up across the street. We’re trying to be proactive by moving it now.”According to reports, the organizers of the event have told participants to keep their revs down all year long. There has also been an increased police presence to discourage “spirited” driving on the way out.
The forerunner of Cars in Coffee Irvine began at Crystal Cove in Orange County, Calif., in 2003. The smallish parking lot was situated between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach, and featured amazing views of the Pacific Coast Highway and the ocean. The gathering was always free.In 2006, it finally outgrew its small neighborhood roots and -- with the help of Ford -- moved to the Mazda headquarters lot in Irvine. At both events, car companies would sometimes sneak in concepts and new products; racing legends like Dan Gurney and Reeves Callaway were regulars; and ancient owners of original race cars would show up, to the delight of attendees. It was like the prom for Southern California car culture, but it happened every week.
That’s why it won’t end now: Both the organizers and participants have too much passion to let such a great tradition die. Rumors have the event possibly moving to the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, which is decommissioned. We’ll update you as we find out more. - See more at: http://autoweek.com/article/car-news/car...h.pNeN7QuC.dpuf (http://autoweek.com/article/car-news/cars-and-coffee-irvine-temporarily-shuts-down?utm_source=DailyDrive20141217&utm_medium=enew sletter&utm_term=headline-center&utm_content=body&utm_campaign=awdailydrive# sthash.pNeN7QuC.dpuf)

Hi Bruce and Gang,
I didn't go today but I heard by 6am it was full and cop cars were blocking the entry! If you want a spot to park you should go on Friday :-)

Full at 6am!!! Great!! I was thinking of leaving my place around 4:00am to try to get in. Maybe I'll have to leave earlier. What time are you guys thinking of getting there by?? I need at least an hour with 4.10 gears on the freeway. I'm coming from the LA area.

Since I really want to drive the Nova anyway, what do you guys think about showing up at the Adams Ave. Donut Shop in Huntington Beach on Saturday?? It's more "old car" friendly for sure!!

Joe if you get a group together and go to Huntington beach on the 27th I'll plan on going and bring my brown Nova. Dave L. will you ever drive this way with one of your cars? A little different venue but any of your cars will still draw a crowd.

Ok! That does say it all. I kinda wondered how slammed it would be. I could buzz down there only to get turned away. What's the Adams Ave. donut shop all about? Is this the same as Donut Derelicts? I'd still try to make it down for that.

That is the same show, it is on Magnolia and Adams in south Huntington Beach. I would say be early because there may be a bunch of new people coming.

Hey Mark, looks like there might be a couple guys coming from south OC. I'll know more by the end of the week. They wanted to check out Cars & Coffee first, just for the heck of it, and then (if it's closed off) head back up the freeway to the Donut Shop. I'm hoping to get there by at least 6:00, maybe earlier!!? And I hope you can still make it Mark! Have you ever been to the Donut Shop (Donut Derelict's)??

Hey Joe, No, I've never been down to Donut Derelicts. I don't get down to the OC too often. I don't always like driving the car on the freeway with the tall gears for too long. It winds out a little too much. I'm still going to try to head down there Saturday. I'll probably go directly to the Donut Shop and hang there. I'll let you know for sure if I'm going to head down later this week.

Well, we ended up at the Donut Shop this morn around 6:00 and got one of the last remaining spots!! It was packed like I haven't seen it in quite awhile. Didn't see you Mark but understood that you had to park across the street? I wish I would have known you were there. Hopefully it was worth the drive for you!! And, since I was so busy talking with people and walking around with my son........I didn't even take one picture!! I'm sorry, but I'm no Bruce!! There was everything there from an Army deuce and a half (?) to rat-rods to Camaro ZL1's. I'm also sorry that I didn't come up and say hello Tom. I'm not trying to be unsociable, really I'm not!! Just caught up in the moment I guess. And it was good talking with you Mark (Sheppard). Always a pleasure. We'll all have to do it again soon!! In the meantime, have a safe and Happy New Year's Eve.

Joe, Yes, I did make it down there. I got a little late start because of an alarm problem. I got there around 6:30-ish and as you saw the parking lot was jammed. I did one pass through it and couldn't find a spot to park so I parked across the street and came over to look at cars and for you guys. Why didn't we exchange phone numbers!?!? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif We'll have to for next time. I did connect up with the other Mark S. (Shepard) and caught up on things. I was near his Nova when I heard the front hood close and spotted him getting in. I thought it was you Joe. For some reason I was thinking your Nova was brown. Mark straightened me out on that. I did see your car though when you drove past me on your way out. It's a nice gathering there and from what some other guys were saying it was a little busier now that Car and Coffee is down for now.
Mark, nice to meet you and hang for a little bit. Thanks again for the help offer on my car. I did make it back without a problem. Tomorrow I'm going to dig into why it seems I may have lost a cylinder. I'll start with the plugs work backwards from there. I'll let you know what I find.
All in all it was a nice trip down and back and there were some cool cars there. In the haste of getting out the door I left my camera at home, but I took a few pics with my phone. I'll see how they look and maybe upload them later. Even when I have my camera sometimes I don't take very many because I'm too busy socializing. Maybe Bruce just needs to go to every show there is and take all the pictures for all of us! That's it for now. Oh, yes, Happy New year to everybody! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

I had the only Nova that was not part of Joe's Nova group but I got there before 5:30am to get a parking spot. It was great seeing everybody and meeting Mark with his 427/425hp Caprice but we need Dave L. to bring one of his cars out to show some of these guys how nice a 69 Chevelle or Camaro can be. I heard the Cars and Coffee was being restarted in Tustin somewhere.

So on my way down to Donut Derelicts I felt a problem which seemed like I lost a cylinder. So I pulled the plugs. All looked fine except for one, cylinder 4. My wire set was at least 15 years old, so I picked up a new wire set thinking I may have a bad wire. Anybody ever have one foul this bad??
I'm pretty sure this could be a problem!
