What with the Canadian dollar at 78 cents its time to purchase all the Canadian cars again.
If I was to buy a car now with a 30 % plus discount, Now is the time to buy. On the other hand
buying a car from the us will be very very expensive

Remember, our cars are worth more now.

I am so glad that I pulled the trigger on my Sock Eliminator, last September.
There is no way that I could have come up with the extra money I would have to pay now.

Looking forward to selling my 1970 R/T S.E. Challenger this spring hopefully to an American with US funds <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

It will be very tough for Canadians to get a good deal now on a muscle car with the 25% hike on the dollar and 13% taxes if you live in Ontario YUK <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif
I gladly sold my 1970 LS6 in November for US funds and on the other hand will be glad to cash in on that 25% hike on the Canadian dollar soon to make even more money on that car <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Agree Danny

Time to sell!!

The kicker for me is the 13% tax is paid on the big number after the 25% exchange:-( not on the smaller number:-(

S###!

When my car was appraised for insurance purposes a couple of years ago it was valued compared to the U.S. market. (according to the appraiser) when the loonie was on par with the dollar. Should we not be calling our insurance brokers if our cars values have now risen by 25-30 percent ?

Most cars that are restored to the buildsheet will cost more to restore than the amount
they are sold for. There are some exeptions

so, are you guys saying that a car in the states for 100,000 can be bought up there for 75,000?

Yes if the Canadian seller sells it for Canadian Dollars and you convert your US funds to get that total you will get 20% to 25% off as of now.

I'm really attached my cars and there is not much hope of me selling any time soon.
Two or three years ago, I was offered 20% more, than my unrestored, one repaint L78 was appraised for.
I'm not going to say what the appraised value is, but let's just say that it was a lot of money.
Even though I am not rich, money means nothing to me.
It is the time I spend behind the wheel, that is priceless to me.

Arguably, cars in Canada have gone up 20-25% in value if they have been and continue to be valued in US dollars. Any Canadian that owns a $100,000 musclecar also knows how much the exchange rate has changed.

Helmut...you certainly don't need to a $100K car to know what the exchange rate is...no wonder the Canadian, Aussie and Kiwi dollars are referred to as 'yo yo' currency's.
