Knowing how scarce real 409 cars are, we would like to extend the invitation to owners of real-deal 409 cars to join us for a very special gathering at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show this year. We have enlisted the help of Verne Frantz, who is recognized as an authority on these cars.

To quote Verne from his previous post;

<span style="font-style: italic">I am already on the quest. I'd like to see this become the most prestigious gathering of REAL 409 cars that has ever been put together. There are thousands of 409 cars out there since the last 20 years or so but you can count the real ones without using up all your fingers and toes.</span>

We would really like to see one of each horsepower, so that would be 1 ’61, 2 ‘62s, 3 ‘63s, 3 ’64s and 2 ‘65s.

Let's make it happen and make some more history! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/youguysrock.gif

We are always up for a challenge, and that is what makes the MCACN show a show unlike any other. Who would have thought that we would be able to lineup over 60 Yenko's, 40+ Aero Cars, 6 of the 8 Trans Am convertobles, over a dozen Baldwin-Motion cars, or this year, nearly 20 very real 426 Hemi Mopar E-body convertibles?

After the first show I wondered how anything could ever top it, then said the same thing after the second, and the third, and the fourth,...........you get the picture. If there is still anyone who has not attended this show you have no idea what you are missing.

We're off and running, with our first <span style="font-style: italic">Official</span> entry for this very special display. Thanks go out to the Dykstra family for making the commitment to show their gorgeous and very real 1962 409 Impala, and kicking this one into gear!

Thanks Jake. Word-of-mouth is without a doubt our best source of advertising, especially from respected members of the hobby like you and your Dad. Realistically, I can go on and on to those who have not yet joined us, (as I often do!) but I know it can come off as some typical promoter spewing the typical B.S.

<span style="font-style: italic">For all who have been at the show and believe in what we are doing, please help us spread the word!</span>

THANKS!

I'd love to see the black/red 63 425 Horse car that TimG recently sold. That car had it all - born with drivetrain, 4.56 rear, great colors, and some race history.

Other than a Z-11, I'm not sure. We'll see how things shape up over time. I know it's a very significant car and sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Are there any Canadian Pontiac factory 409 cars booked yet?
Again as I've mentioned here before, all available info indicates W-motor vehicle assembly continued in Canada after the Jan/65 change to MK1V's in the USA also that THE LAST 409 passenger vehicle built was a Canadian '65 Pontiac.

Here is a real oddity, a QB 409 turned into a V4 for a midget sprint car. Unfortunately it was never finished.

Last one I saw was a red 65 09 wagon about 40 years ago. It was at a local bone yard. Likely been recycled into Toyotas several times over by now.

There was a long thread over on Chevy Talk about a 62 409/409 wagon sitting in the woods. Used as a tow car back in the day for the 63 Max Wedge Plymouth that was also parked in the woods.

Bob,

I know of a few 409 wagons. One is changing hands and needs the restoration completed. That's a possible depending on how much time the job takes. One is a '64 T.I car that needs it all. I know of another '64 auto car that is all done but I've lost track of it.
I'm back on my legs (all 6 of them counting the walker) so I'll start to make more contacts.

This is one of the coolest 409 cars I've ever seen. Low miles, original paint with just the right amount of patina, and a genuine factory hot rod. Bob was hesitant because he has always considered it just a cruise night car that he drives all Summer. This is a great addition to what is shaping up as a highlight of the show, and I think the crowds will agree. Thanks Bob, and nice going Verne.

Our family's Chevrolet Dealership &quot;Cook Chevrolet Oldsmobile&quot; in Bristol NH sold a Black 1962 409 4spd Wagon to the local funeral home, family was trying to keep the 19-20 year old son in the business and allowed him to order the new passenger wagon for the home no restrictions other than black on black. When he started in on ordering the 409 4spd my uncle called the funeral home and they said he can order whatever his heart desires as long as it's solid black. Wonder if the car is still around?

Bob, Some errors have been found on your registration. In order to accept your car as a real 409 car you will need to provide the following information:
1 An xray of the muffler
2 A photo of the pilot bearing in the rear of the crankshaft
3 An analysis of the oil in the transmission
4 And a photocopy of the water pump impeller.

We hope this doesn't inconvenience you.

Not to worry, Verne, what you have assembled already makes for an outstanding display, and we have about six months to go! Concentrate on getting back to 100%, as we have a great crew to assist wherever needed!

I wasn't able to attend this year's show much to my disappointment, my interest lies with the early muscle cars so I was very excited about the 409 display. Tonight is the first time that I have had a chance to look at the photos from the show. Having studied the photos and remembering back that these cars had to be correct factory built 409 cars I can not help but question the 65 Impala that is shown with the group. A 65 Impala with a 425 hp engine and a/c??? Come on, Chevrolet never offered a/c with a solid lifter 409 motor and only the 340 and 400 horse engines were offered in 65. I see that the car is displayed with some paperwork which I'm not able make out but I have never seen any factory documentation that would support this equipment.

Tom,
Thanks for that link, I had not seen it and I kinda thought that might be the case. The display sign says &quot;1965 Impala SS 409/425 # matching engine and transmission&quot;. That sign is very mis leading, it may be a # matching 409/340 but it's not a 425. Still looks like a very nice car.

Indeed, the '65 in the MCACN 409 Invitational display is a<span style="font-style: italic"> very real 409 340 horsepower </span>car. The Albaugh Collection stepped up and agreed to show this car with us after numerous requests were made on several websites. It is a real beauty and it is a <span style="font-style: italic">real 409 car</span> that we were honored to have in the show to represent the 1965 model year. They don't claim that it left the assembly line as a factory built dual quad 425 horse car, and Andy was very clear in disclosing that to me.

Surprisingly, even with several known 409 experts on the hunt, nobody else replied to join us with a real 1965 409 car. We thank Andy and Dennis for stepping up in response to my personal invitation. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/worship.gif

Bob, were they claiming that the documents on that display board were originals because they appear to be apart of the $1,000+ reproduction documentation package the seller in Canada used to offer. (same dealer stamp on three of the items) The window sticker stood out in particular with some things not correct.

I can't comment personally on whether the car is a real 340hp car or not without seeing it in person but the docs aren't helping IMHO.

The car look does look great regardless! Anyway could you ask them take a picture of the cowl tag and engine pad for me? I had entered this car into my list over 10 years ago but didn't note if it was a 409 for sure because I didn't have many pictures to go by including not seeing the cowl tag and engine pad numbers.

Indeed...after years of badgering and extensive peer pressure, it was an honor to have Gags join us and show his '64 409 with us.

I've known Bob for many years and I leaned on him pretty hard. I was able to help him confirm it was/is a real one. I love happy endings.
