I just heard about a one owner 69 copo chevelle sitting in a near by city for sale very very cheap. The problem is the gentlemen that found the car wants to buy it ( but hasn't) and won't come of its location but did tell me what city it's in and the general location. The cars supposedly all original but very very rusty. I'm gonna make up some flyers and post them in and around the city it's supposedly at. Could be a tale but I can't leave it lay without trying to locate it!

Why not just offer the guy a "finders fee" if he helps you close the deal?

Sounds like the original owner WV Copo Chevelle that was sitting outside on tree stumps, at least it didn't sink into the dirt. It did ultimately get restored, silver 4 speed car.

Sounds like the 71 Hemi GTX I used to hear stories about. Guy never had the cash to buy it but wouldn't tell anyone else where it was. That went on for years before he shut up about it. I guess somebody with money in their hand finally stumbled over it.

I don't know how far you are from Thorington lake, but I will bet he is talking about the rusted out Copo that's sitting over there. Took a look at it about 5-7 years ago.Very Very rusty. When I went to open the hood, the hinges ripped apart. TT was still there but the firewall and much of the cowl was rusted away. VIN tag was rusted away. All the other sheetmetal and much of the inner structure is total junk. Is a real car and will need a complete rebody. OH yeah the price wasn't cheap unless the owner came back to reality.

I have heard about the car but have never seen it in person. I had heard the price was $50k.

Ok a friend has located this car and spoke with the owner. The owner says it's not a copo but the motor trans ( 400 turbo) and the 12 bolt came from a 69 copo Chevelle. My buddy looked at the car just a few minutes ago he said has drum brakes in the front and a AC dash but no AC under the hood. Also said has an antenna on the rear quarter panel but the front fender also has a hole for the antenna. He said the body is actually pretty good shape only needing quarters.I'm suppose to meet with him tomorrow or Sunday. What do I need to look for. What would the stamp on the front of the block read to make it a copo block. He did say it's a 69 block and a 512 casting. Help help help

CX trans, clean the tag gently so you don't wipe off the paint
The Vin will be on the opposite side to the tag in the middle just above the pan gasket

You would check the VIN against this list as step one:-) (in private)

Interesting. I was told this was an original COPO car. I'd still check against the VIN. If you need any help I've owned a few of these cars over the years.

Well I guess that makes sense I forgot about the list of vin numbers. What's the chances of a copo car having drum brakes in the front.

If you look at it and get a good feeling about it you should call Dan Vasic to get a certification.
My info is only as good as a few great websites:-)
I have seen information on both sides of the possibility of ordering front drums?
Get great pictures of the trim tag, guys here can decode a COPO in their sleep (PM to the right guy)

Drum brakes on the front of a COPO was a COMMON CHANGE......for Drag Racing.. ..!!!!
If they changed to drums , alot of the Disc brake only pieces may still be on the Car.equalizer, proportioning valve, steering arms, bent or cut lines, booster and master cylinder among the obvious.

School me on putting drum brakes on a disk brake car. What's the purpose of this
leach
07-25-2015, 06:17 PM
Back in that era they changed to drum brakes because it did not slow the car down because of disk grabbing while drag racing. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/flag.gif

Well unfortunately last Sunday my friend and I went back to get the numbers and talk price on this supposedly 69 copo Chevelle. The owner ( the son) was there and said the car wasn't for sale nor could we look at it. He acted angry and was pretty rude to say the least. Doesn't really add up the father told my friend, the son ( owner) lived in another state and told his father to sell the car. I'm gonna give it a while and stop back by there to see if the father will talk to me.
