Real Deal 1970 L78 Nova SS, documented and original drivetrain.

Has sYc DNA : )

Very original and solid car, you decide to repaint or freshen it up.

I'm told it is mechanically strong with a recent engine rebuild, but too cold to drive it and too snowy for pictures.

Better pics coming soon.

$36,500.00 or trade.

Cool Nova, I bet it shocked a few cars at stoplights in the 70's.

A car just like this one beat me like a rented mule one time in Bensalem, PA - probably around 1987'ish. It was an Autumn Gold Nova, 396, but had big-n-little Cragars and some traction bars. I don't remember seeing a Reedman emblem on the back, but that wasn't really what I was looking at! Plus, Reedman cars were/are all over the place in Bucks County, PA.

Nice car, GLWS

Nice car, GLWS

This is probably the car Marlin. It never had a Reedman emblem on it as far as I remember.. I bought the car out of that area when the original owner died. It had a Real LS6 in it and that explains how well it ran. That motor was sold out of the car right before I got it..

Tom...Yes, that's your old car, the one I bought from you. Although my time with it was relatively short lived, I'ved enjoyed it thoroughly. Ran and drove very nicely for me last fall. Those are the white pinstripe tires and '70 L78 repop air cleaner in the pics that I mentioned to you earlier. Just bought a nice lakefront property that came along unexpectedly, gonna do some remodeling there, so decided to sell the Nova.

Pat...I was just having some fun...no doubt where that car came from. I like the look with the white lines and the air cleaner is a nice addition.

Certainly glad you enjoyed the car...I think it is a very cool sleeper and hopefully the next owner will enjoy it like you did.

Good luck with your new lake property.

The car did have a Reedman emblem...but, it came apart at some point. Not sure if it was with the car when I sold it to Pat.

By the way, the current engine setup is no slouch...it made a lot power on the dyno. That car would be dangerous with some headers, 4.10's, performance tuning and some tires to keep it glued to the ground.

Wilma

**that car was ordered with 4.10 gears...but, Chevy didn't put anything more than the 3.55's...the original salesman's notes indicated the 4.10's

Thanks Tom, was a tough decision to sell and I appreciate all the guidance you provided along the way. I really like that car, it goes like hell and is easy to drive to boot! Stefano will no doubt find her a well deserved good home. I still have the Reedman emblem, but it's in pretty bad shape. Paul's Chrome can repair it, I'll have it done and give it to the new owner. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

Something I just noticed on the sales invoice: "SOLD AS IS".

Were Cheverolet dealers allowed to sell a new car without the original factory warranty back then? I know lots of Mopar dealers refused to honor warranties on hemi cars if you bought a four speed.

DaJudge
02-24-2015, 12:28 PM
Hi Steve, the sold as is , is scribbled over. That was Reedman's universal deal sheet. Same one that my parents signed when they bought an 80 Rally Sport. H. Reedman's JR. Or Harold was the same sales person.

WILMASBOYL78
02-24-2015, 01:37 PM
Most car dealerships had one buyer's order for new and used vehicles. Obviously the new cars and trucks came with the manufacturer's warranty...the dealer could not take that away. It was very common before the advent of consumer laws that used vehicles were sold as is. It is still a fact even today...laws vary by the state. There is a federal FTC requirement that all used vehicles have a "Buyer's Guide" displayed on the window...this form clearly outlines the warranty coverage that comes with the used vehicle.

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/pdf-0083-buyers-guide.pdf

The penalties are substantial if the feds get aggressive...each year there are dealers who receive stiff fines for failing to comply.

As for this Nova...I'm sure the factory warranty was put to the test early on given the performance package under the hood <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif

Thanks, unless someone wants to save it, looks like we'll have to part it out.

So, I'll start with Body tub/ non roller and all bolt on sheet metal, good title and all supporting documentation $15,000.00 obo.

Also available is a rebuilt with dyno sheet, complete matching drivetrain for $15,000.00

Anyone who buys both gets a bunch of correct and hard to find misc parts at no additional cost.

A new twist on marketing a classic...very creative <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

***This car is very solid and the engine and tranny do everything they should. I spent a lot of time on the mechanicals...it runs out great. The sleeper look is the best part...nobody would guess what's under the hood. I really believe this is the car that Marlin met up with years ago <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif

Somebody should buy this...add some headers and 4.10's, a little more tire and then go terrorize the neighborhood. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/burnout.gif

Amazing how undervalued novas are. Great cars and easy to work on. Should really not still be for sale.
Somebody could Day-2 this car a little, take it to the track and run easy mid 12's all day and then drive it back home, just like the old days.
Can set up some match races with Sully's nova! Another bad azz car!

I love Novas. I agree with you Sam. Car would be an excellent Day 2 platform. Only think holding it back is the color. Paint it white for a Hurst theme or black for that Smokey feel and enjoy it for the BMF it is!

1970 was the year of earth tones...Forest Green and Autumn Gold were very common.
My first Nova was Forest Green <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif

Leave the color as is... that is what makes it such a great sleeper...this car doesn't even have the engine call outs on the front fenders...looks like a 6 cylinder <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif

Thanks Rich, may be a while before the "class of 70" cars are unveiled. Maybe we'll reveal one at a time for now. But it's true, I've been blessed with purchasing 2 cars from the Yenko.net forum over the last week, super excited about both!

Real question is, should this L78 Nova get restored or keep as original as possible? I'm leaning in the direction of keeping the paint original as the line goes "you can restore a car 1000 times, but it's only original once". But you can also argue that this car is surely worthy of a good resto. Tough call, maybe just correct the areas of rust and leave the rest original and decide over time for now... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/confused.gif

Bill Pritchard
07-10-2015, 12:24 AM
IMO, restoration would be out. First stop - the best paintless dent removal person you can find. Then, gently clean and detail with as little disruption to original as you can. Drive and enjoy!

Awesome car, congrats on the purchase <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

YenkoSFC
07-10-2015, 02:40 AM
Thanks Bill, appreciate the advice. Funny you mentioned it, Stefano already scheduled his dent removal guy for early next week and we're also adding the original Reedman emblem back on the car. Agreed, we'll get her detailed and cleaned up, which I'm sure this will all make a huge difference in presentation...

So correct me if I'm wrong, you're saying leave paint all alone including rust areas like quarters and fenders? As long as it's not continuing to corrode? The last thing I want to do is start fixing areas of rust & paint issues that may actually hurt the originality and ultimately the value over time. Thanks again for your input!:)

Unless it looks worse in person than it does in the pics, then yes, I would leave it alone. Once you start painting, it can be hard to stop.

YenkoSFC
07-11-2015, 10:17 AM

Drive it first. Have some fun with it.

I would fix the rust at the bottoms of the fenders and bottom of 1/4s. You need to work with guys who can work around the originality and match the current patina. Check with the guys at MASCAR, they understand originality and have experience with NOVAs <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif
