Hey guys,

I am the owner of some W Machines, however my favourite Olds has always been a 1968 Hurst Olds. I had been looking for the right 68 Hurst Olds for many years. Last year my dream came true as I found a documented, numbers matching , original paint 68 Hurst Olds!!! It still has all the Hurst Olds specific parts, It is a car that is on the Hurst Olds Registry - they just didn't know about its existence today. This Hurst Olds still has its original spare tire in the trunk. The car has never had any sort of body work done to it what so ever. It is truly an original!

I purchased the 68 Hurst Olds from the orginal owner who purchased the car from Acey Oldsmobile in New York, NY. The car had been parked in the original owners garage since 1986 with 46K miles on it. It is the non A/C version of the Hurst Olds so it has the 3.91 gears. It has an AM radio and a black plastic steering wheel. It was ordered without the wood wheel. Some of the original paperwork that I received with the car include ordering paperwork, owners manual with POP, some time slips from West Hampton/Suffolk County Raceway on Long Island, a broadcast card, and all the registration/insurance slips from 1968 - 1986!

The car has lots of track history from its days at West Hampton/Suffolk County Raceway on Long Island. It still retains stickers on both quarter windows. The stories the original owner shares and remembers are just incredible. We have become good friends and communicate on a regular basis. He is a 73 yr old retired dentist who purchased the 68 Hurst Olds when he was 27. His dental practice was in New York City. He purchased the car me day while on a lunch break from work. The car still has its working dealer installed alarm which can be turned on and off by using a key that fits into a lock cylinder which is located on the drivers fender. He said the alarm was necessary because he was in New York City! This Hurst Olds was the families "daily" driver for the first 10 years of its life. The car still has a baby seat harness in the backseat. The quote from the original owner was, " I'd wash and get the car ready on Saturday, race the car on Sunday, and drive it to work on Monday." Thanks for making my dream come true Dr. E!!!

Have a great evening,

Cheers,

Sam

Very cool indeed. I share the same fondness for '68 H/O models. What was that car's ET back in the day? A/SA was a tough class; lots of 427 Chevrolets and some Hemis, too.
GREAT FIND!!! Please tell and show us more. All the cool old Oldsmobiles must be hidden in The Great White North.

I think Sam said the H/O best time slip was 11.90.....my memory for picking up milk on the way home from work is bad but in this case I am pretty sure that was the number..

Ryan

Hi Dave.....Yup better get a passport and come visit Canada:-)

I have some pics of a 68 Hurst Olds racing on Mantorp Park here in Sweden in the seventies. Now I read on Facebook that it is heading back to the first swedish owner again. He is just 70 years young !

Wow, what an interesting history, cool car, and pictures. Thank you for sharing with all of us. I also love the 1968 Hurst/Olds. They were so subtle in their appearance - yet were very fast cars. I thought you might appreciate this original Road Test video posted by Mike Noun. Maybe you have already seen this video but it is very cool. Mike has some fantastic videos of original Muscle Car Road tests. Thank you again for posting. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Dealer installed theft alarm - lock cylinder, used to turn the alarm on and off with a key when exiting the vehicle.
Dr. E waited A few extra days to take delivery of the vehicle because the alarm had to be installed at Acey Olds in New York, NY where the car was originally sold.

Are any of the original lugnuts with the car?
Pretty sure it should have the tall crown stainless capped lugs.
The 71 Cutlass I looked at had the originals on it.

Hi Sam, did you ask what the Bugs Bunny stickers are about?

I noticed one on the other fender the other day but forgot to ask

Is it because the dentist liked his big perfect chompers?

Also, if anyone has an email address for Dave Mathers, I would like to contact him.

Is Azure in Oldsmobile language NC Tar Heals Blue?

If so this colour really pops on an Oldsmobile:-) I had only seen it on 69 and 70 Chevelles. (-- special paint)
