OH...freakin' Emm...GEE!!!!! Just had the most amazing afternoon with the original owner to my A12 Super Bee!!! Just so my excitement is expressed here and I don't forget, all sentences and comments from now on need a minimum of one, maybe three exclamation points!!! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif So freakin' cool!!! I tried to get him to drive the car, but Gary is a very reserved guy and he didn't want to get behind the wheel on the road. I understood his concern and didn't pressure him too much, but the least I could do is take him for a spin! All the questions about the car have answers, stories that include Big Willie Robinson, a 340 he bought from him, and several other notable racers from back in the day in the Detroit area. Just priceless!!! Enjoy some pictures...

Cheers <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2015/04/full-18993-24341-1.jpg

He sat in the car for the first time and said, "I don't remember it being this low.." <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif So priceless seeing him in the car behind the wheel. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2015/04/full-18993-24344-6.jpg

This last photo Gary says, "So I'm at a light on Woodward, and this guy in a 427 comes up to me and says, 'Wanna race that Six Pack?...'"

..and lastly, the restoration has to start somewhere, and what better way to kick off the build with the original owner and myself both taking off the first part of the car together? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif

Gary will be back to reinstall that air cleaner at a "show near you" to call the restoration: Complete! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

This is the one car that he regrets selling, and he's been following all the reality car shows on TV, watching the auctions, reading magazines, and heck, he even picked up the lasted issue of Muscle Car Review magazine to see his old Bee spread out in the Barn Find MCACN story! What a treat!!!! Of course, all my dry wit humor emails and pictures help him stay enthused too <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/crazy.gif

Hope you enjoyed the pics. We were supposed to race at the Nostalgia Drags, but they got cancelled. I'm glad he still made the journey out here. It was a treat I'll never forget!

Cheers

You are lucky Dave. Not easy to find original owners and sometimes when you do, they are already gone. That has been the case with all previous owners of my cars that I could find. I'm sure that was a great trip down memory lane for Gary.

Keep us updated on the restoration.

It is really tough to beat a story about an original owner when they are reunited with a car for the first time in many years. To sit down over a cold one and listen to stories of the car, the owner and what took place back in the day is impossible to beat. Thanks for sharing the reunion with us. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's really cool! I look forward to see pics of the restoration and to see Gary replace the "crown" on the engine. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

Love that last picture showing the two of you removing the "first part" to start the restoration.

There's nothing like an original owner being reunited with HIS car and sharing their how and why stories. Congratulations!!!

Awesome story. I bought my 67 RS/SS from the original owner in 1984. When I finally got around to doing a frame off restoration in 2006, I called the original owner to get his input on the restoration to make it as authentic as possible. After coming to the house with his wife and two kids who grew up with the car, he was nearly brought to tears that I still had it, AND that I wanted his input on the restoration. Icing on the cake was that he still had the original bill of sale twenty two years after selling the car. It has been reunited with the car. I should have taken pictures!

That really is the hobby at it's core there. Two guys sitting around talking about a car. I'm sure the old main seal let out a couple drops of oil. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif
