My '68 Camaro has a built 302 in it and as I just got it, I don't know much about the engine so I was wondering what you all recommend for oil and filters - weight, brand, full syn, etc. I appreciate any thoughts you all can share, thanks.

Flat tappet cam: Valvoline VR1 10W30
Roller cam: Mobil1 synthetic.
Oil filters: Wix or NAPA Gold.
I prefer Valvoline VR1 20W-50 Racing oil with NAPA filter #21069,in my stock 1970 L-78 Chevelle w/4:10.

I use the Valvoline VR1 20/50 and Joe Gibb full synthetic racing oil in my cars. I also use Amsoil, they have a 20/50 now with high zinc levels for solid lifters.. I use the repro AC Delco oil filters.. I also dump in a quart of Lucas oil additive. Just remember if your using synthetic oil they make a synthetic oil additive.
I REALLY notice a difference on hot days. When those big blocks start running hot the oil pressure stays up much better using the Lucas additive... I really like it..

Napa and Wix are the same filters.

Here is a video comparison on Fram oil filters.......

Below is what I'm running in my solid roller BBC Chevelle. Most won't need the "Racing" filter. The 51061 will be just fine.
My lifter noise is much quieter and I have better, more consistent oil pressure with Schaeffer's oil....and I've run a lot of different oils in the Chevelle.

The NAPA #21069 filter is white & more resembles the original assembly line design for me,once you pull the decal off.

Yeah....I forget about some people wanting it to look correct....which I understand.
The 51061 filter is for a truck motor and works in my favor two ways.....one, it's a longer filter for more filtering and two, since it's longer, it's easier to get a hold of as the headers are RIGHT in the way. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/mad.gif
I still highly recommend Shaeffer's oil.

I ran Modil 10w-30 in my 68 Z28 for years recently I switched to Amsoil ZRod 10-30 as it has a higher level of zinc. Don't notice any difference between the 2.

The AMSOIL Z-Rod Series oil is very good for a lot of the engines in our Muscle cars. First reason is that is it contains the Zinc everyone is looking for (no need to add any additional Zinc) and secondly, the Z-Rod contains anti-corrosion inhibitors specifically for our engines because more often than not our cars are stored for long periods in winter or rainy seasons. Also, no need to add any "oil stabilizers" to any oil or any AMSOIL products. It only screws up the formula of anyones oil. The oil stabilizer mentioned in an earlier post is a 60 weight viscosity.
