That guy responded to me about the '71 Z28. That's not me responding to him.

Even though he's had 20 of them cars and they've been in Magazines, sounds like the factory messed up and

put the wrong lifters in all his cars.

Do you really think he has a clue what a lifter is??

Reminds me of the character I met at Spring Carlise about 10 years ago...he told me our 67 Chevelle SS396 was not real because all SS cars had buckets seats and a floor shift.

I'm glad he set me straight <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif

Sure wish I could run into one of those "experts" that happens to have a real deal -- and wanting to sell it cuz' it's a fake!!!

I hate people. Over this past weekend I had some idiot trying to tell me that they did not make SS Chevelles in colors like silver, beige, or white. He said they were ALL only red, black or daytona yellow...

WOW...

I quit taking my cars to the small car shows years ago, I got tired of all the self proclaimed experts telling me my car was wrong, when they never owned one themself.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

If I had a $1 for each person who told me that my Yenko Deuce must be a clone because they didn't come in that color..... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif

I liked the guy on the local CL who had a '69 Yenko clone (who had no idea what parts were actually in it when it was built) who mentioned in his CL and EBay ads that "X-11 usually denotes SS".

I was told that about my Nova too. Bench seat Nova can't be a real SS... Blah Blah Blah.

Another very common one. It can't be a 69 Z28 because it has power steering.

Verne_Frantz
05-26-2015, 08:39 PM
It can't be a real 409 car because it doesn't have 6" wheels or a boxed frame.....

Geeeesh!

Even the old world experts used to tell me the Olds 400's in my '69 and '70 442's couldn't be original engines..."so you own one but don't even know they came with them special 442 CID motors?"
Never any sense explaining the 442 meanings through the years to these fellas either or getting into the Chevy/B-O-P engines and 454/455 thing...or Canadian Pontiacs etc, etc...

Several years back I had my Black 69 Camaro SS L78 4 speed car at a local Sunday afternoon gathering. As I opened the hood up the pillsbury doughboy with his greasy blond hair pulled back in a pony tail, asks me who put "that thar" smog pump on this car ? Only CA cars got a smog pump <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif
I told him I bought the car that way so he would leave me alone.

As long as we are talking about the low information crowd, This actually happened: A 'B' body mopar had an early (392) Hemi shoehorned in it's engine bay at a local show. Looked pretty good. The car had a BDS scoop for an air cleaner, similar to the one pictured. I overheard a fella telling his friend, while pointing at the scoop, "See, that is the engine size, 805." 8=B,0=D,5=S, No kidding! I started following this guy to see what other 'pearls of wisdom' he had, and he had plenty! That one is the only one I can remember though.

Yep. I tend to park and walk away from my car. The few informed people are a pleasure but the "experts" take all the fun out of it.

I am just the opposite and put on my dumb cap and act like I do not know anything. This always gives them the confidence to give you the complete history of the car and to me makes for a very humorous day. The are idiots everywhere but I enjoy these.

Stefano,

Here's the Z28 spec page that I scanned from Chevrolet's 1971 Camaro sales brochure. Note the sentence in the second paragraph that clearly states "The mechanical lifters." Send this to the jackass and see what he has to say.

I always knew there was a good reason I saved this brochure all these years <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/haha.gif

I usually carry GM documents, dealer books, and brochures in my trunk when I attend cars shows. There's usually some people that are just curious about things. Then there are the guys that have said, you couldn't get that engine in a Caprice let alone the 4 speed. So, I pull the stuff out and show them. So far it hasn't failed.
