A "Cleaned up Original skin 472 intake
meets up with an NOS HP 310 Mallory RevPol Double life distributor" & what happens........
Pertronix brings them together.

Brother Joe has the 302 on the stand and I'm double checking the pieces to keep the ball moving on the engine build.http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2015/06/full-13370-27505-img_20150612_163319.jpg

Lookin' good! Gonna have to run a small air cleaner to show off that cool distributor cap and wires.

Can't go wrong with either <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/3gears.gif

Those heads gonna be part of the build? Nice ports!

What big eyes you have grandma....yep ..those are the ones.

The intake ports are nice too......except I'm not touching the manifold ports. ....nor using Stahl head plates.... just square port headers in 1 5/8 ID

No holes knocked in them yet! Toss a fill tube in the intake.

Yep! Fill Tube with a PCV !

Good idea , the M/Ts are out of a NOS Blue, white, yellow box, HOLLEY M/T EQUIPPED from 1970 ?
price on box, $26.95.....

That's the original plug on the intake....I'll knock it out before both valve covers...

Thanks

As cool as it's going to look, I just couldn't bring myself to running a fly eye air cleaner. Seems like a very lousy design for performance and filtering ability. Keep it for the shows and drive around with the stock (better designed) '69 302 air cleaner. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif

Also, Fill tube is fine, but I'd still want a PCV port in one cover. Function over style, ya know! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

This car is going to be nice when it's done....

From what I recall most guys did not even run a PCV back then..mostly just Mr G or Cal Custom breathers.

I have a Purple AC Delco PCV I'd like to have in there somewhere.

I'll figure something out so the M/T 's stay in cut.
I like the Corvette style oil tube , hose and PCV idea.

BTW...I just saw a Whites. Speed Shop Decal on eBay.

Gotta have breathers. No PCV valve, I would have at least 1 breather in each VC.
Are those ignitions really much/any better than a Chevy single point done on a machine?
Not crazy about the fly-eyes either.
Love the tunnel ram.
Love the original skin intake.

Yeah, but PCVs serve a function and it ain't just emissions. I guess it depends on if the car gets driven or not, but for something logging street miles, I'd want a PCV. Just my $0.02.

You still need a place for fresh air to get in and flow through the crankcase to the PCV / sealed oil tube. I can't think of how you'd do it without a hole in the back of the intake open to the valley, a hole in the rear "china wall" of the block, or a hole in the valve cover for a breather. I'd cut the covers before a DZ block or factory intake. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

Road draft vent and oil tube cap vent om the 68. No PCV system and no problem on the dyno. YMMV.

Paul - you've got two vents (oil fill tube and draft tube). Lots of cars built that way before 1963, so it obviously works. However a PCV with a breather on the other cover keeps the oil cleaner, reduces moisture build-up in the crankcase, etc, etc. Not a big deal for a race engine, but I feel better having one since my car sees street miles and it really doesn't cost anything to run one. I'll take function over looks. Just my opinion though, as not everyone has the same priorities.

I think Tom has a '68-up block, so there would be no provision for a draft tube or breather at the rear, like '67 and older engines.

PCV's just plain ugly will never run one

When I ran the nova back in the early 70's I had 2 breathers in each VC. We welded 2 oil tube pipe in each VC with a press on breather on each. No PCV. When I put the car back on the street I ran the PCV set up and one of those GM spark arrestors in each VC.
Got that spark arrestor idea from Jenkins. He had them on his Vega.
They are good to use today for a clean breather setup.

Sam,
The Distributor is a RevPole Double Life ...meaning its a 4 Cam dual point with 20 - 24 ° Mechanical Advance.....Converted to a Pertronix Phase II full electronic ignition.(Transistor Ignition) just as a ZL1 K66. Hence the use of the Super CD & K66 Voltage regulator. I do have to add a seperate Rev limiter . . .which will allow shifing the trans at the desired RPM on the . Transmission is a early 70's Doug NashPro Shitfed M22 with. 2:52 first gear, 4:10's .

I did notice Tom had a block without provisions for a rear vent. It'll need to be vented in order to be driven much. You can drill the intake in the back and run pcv out of it, use the Vette oil fill tube with pcv and a breather on top of tube instead of twist on cap or you can run an Electic fuel pump and vent the crankcase through a fuel pump block off with a vent tube. I personally prefer valve cover breathers and use them up front so the fan blows air across them and use pcv on the rear of the valve cover. It's hard to cut up NOS parts but if your gonna cruise you have to sacrifice somewhere.

Day 2 and already drilled for PCV. Use the fill tube with a breather cap. Problem solved. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif

I missed the staggered hole part just looking quick. No wonder the price is reasonable.... Not much use to anyone with a SBC built after '59.
