Could you be thinking of "Ghetto Rat?" It was a '67 Camaro. Used to hang with another black '67 "Soulful Strut" supposedly a '67 Z/28 sold out of Humphrey Chevrolet.
Top dogs on the South Side were "Climax" a silver '68 Hemi Road Runner and "The Educator" a Hugger Orange '69 Z/28. Both gone far as I know.

Any chance "The Educator" '69 Camaro is the car in the Car Craft article from November '78 titled "They only come out at night" ? It was owned by Scott Brown and called "King Camaro" in the story. Claimed to be one of the toughest on Chicago's South side. ? I don't recall anything about the name. I'd love to see more of it too.

The pictured Camaro was owned by Scott Brown of the southwestern suburbs of Chicago. I was told many years ago by a friend from Chicago that Scott sold it a purchased a large boat.
I lost track of it back in the 80s and I have not heard where it ended up. It was a well done car and it has always been a favorite of mine.
I do not believe that it was part of the Rat Pack out of Dayton, OH.

Scott never put a name on his car I was talking to him about that the other day. Scott is a mopar guy and his cars all have modified hemis. His Hemi duster is my favorite.

Thought it was. I'll have to dig up the old Car Craft Camaro special edition with this car's story.
EDIT: Yer right, no mention of the Rat Pack in the feature article. 36 years of fuzzy memories back to 1979 when the article was published...

The Educator did not have a vinyl top. Last time I saw it was 1969 in the service department at Braeger Chev. Had a tunnel ram, cut wheel wells, no hood. Don't know how that warranty claim went.
I've asked around and best guess is it is long gone.

Is there any chance Scott would share some pix or info about the car ? That picture grabbed me by the boo boo way back then and has always been one of my favorites. That one and Gary Fravel's '68 Camaro. Ruined me for life.
B.T.W., I apologize to the original poster for taking this into left field.

Not to hijack the thread, but Gary Fravel's was one of the coolest Camaros I'd ever seen and is absolutely seared into my brain. I heard from someone on here who is supposed to be his son that Fravel's Camaro is exactly the same as the pics and is just sitting in a barn/garage.

For all wondering about Gary Fravel's Camaro- here is an updated photo from this summer. Sadly my dad passed away 2 years ago, this year we had to move the car to a different location.

Thank you for that picture! I'm not enamored of all things "Day 2" (then or now), but your Dad's Camaro, with the slicks, the oil filters hanging down in the FRONT, and the SS stripe that turns into flames, etc. just slayed me as a 12 year old kid. Back when I just had a few dozen car magazines, I would go back to that feature again and again and again. I still remember it every time somebody talks Camaros and stance. Any chance you could get that car to MCACN next year, maybe with a display celebrating your Dad? I plan to be there, and I know I'm not the only one who would be floored to see it:)

Sorry to hear of your dad's passing. And I'm right there with Tom regarding his Camaro. I can't tell you how much of an impact his Camaro had on a little kid. It forever sealed in my mind how a Camaro should look and it was epic. Great to see it's safe and still in good shape, and again, my condolences on the passing of your dad.

Not to derail but does anyone recall a lemans blue? 69 Z from Chicago southwest with mechanical fuel injection I think owner was "Jimmy". Saw it many times at Dukes in Bridgeview. Alleged street racer but never saw it run.

John I can't say if that's it. The one I remember from the mid 80's may have had Center Lines on it fatties out back with skinnies in front. It had tall stacks for the injectors with the tennis ball ritual going on. No hood on it but I believe it was a 302. This could be it after a makeover.
