Has anyone ever tested the large LT-1 Z/28 dual snorkel assembly vs a '60s era GM open element? Are the snorkels restrictive, or doesn't it make much of a difference on a typical 350-375 hp engine?

L-82 howls through an open on a 73 Z. Snorkels are quieter for sure. Cold air would be the critical point I think.

An open air cleaner sounds much better on a '70 LT1, the dual snorkel version really tones it down.

take the air cleaner off. that will sound the best!

Yes it does, but... there's that small issue of dirt & debris!

AND sucking the hood insulation (if so equipped) into the fuel mixer -- makes a heck of a mess.

Thanks, guys. Is it just sound, or does the dual snorkel hurt performance compared to the L88-style open element?

in the day, the open element air cleaner was called "the 5 horse power air cleaner" in that just putting it on just about any healthy motor was good for a 5 horsepower improvement. I used it on my 70 stick Z-28, and it ran fantastic. I would highly recomend it over the dual snorkle. Respectfully, Rick Kenney.
