They can be cleaned in your laundry tub using Purple Power degreaser. Or similar product
Soak them with a 25% cut of hot or warm water over nigh or longer if needed.
Drip dry by hanging them sideways after they are rinsed in a fine spray of cold water.... or soak them in cold clear water.
don't be in a rush.......
Gentle is the word of the day.
They won't be perfect, but presentable.

I worked as a mechanic on a farm for years and a truck would come once a month, pick up our dirty air filters and drop off clean ones. Saved the farm alot of money by having them washed.
