This 55 Hardtop was nasty looking , But WICKED NASTY Sounding with sub 300 inches of 14:1 Compression and a High Duration Big Lift Roller.
A Race car since who knows when.....as a Kid I saw this car a lot, Chained to guide posts and telephone poles in the owners Rough neighborhood of Hazelwood ...yep. "hood" ....lol
The "CREEPY CRAWLER" has the same owner, racer
for the past 45+ years.
My favorite was the MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 55 Gasser as a Kid http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2015/07/full-13370-29310-img_20150722_193553.jpg

Me too. That '68 Chevelle is the epitome of "Day 2". And the old Modified Production cars are certainly BAD ASS!!! I'd love to hear that '55 at about 10,000 rpm.
Day2_69Z
07-23-2015, 01:19 PM
Oh Yeah !!!
When a sbc of some 280-290 inches blasts crackling sounds gaining heat , is nothing but mechanical sounds of harmony......... yep....to hear a gasser type/modified production motor at 1,400 rpm idle is a sound No Big Inch Small Blocks of today can put a patch on its own ass.
Raymond & Sammy's Chevelle is understated as the Epitome of Day 2.......too bad the original M-H wrinkle walls and Stahls weren't salvageable.
Maybe I can get some Daylight shots underneath from the lift.......
Any Western Pa Guys recognize the
"Sheffler Bros." ....Broughers Speed Shop owners Early flopper with Injected Hemi ?
GATES SPEED CENTER was a Big Time shop for its day. ..Connie Kalita the Bounty Hunter used Jackie's shop as a Home away from home for his Fuel Funny Cars and traveling buddies.. West Homestead,Pa..

With 'OLDS POWER' !
other notables are the Opel Kadet of Jimmy Varracali. Jim Boborka's record holder 69 Z/28 converted to 255 horse 350 .....the 'MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 55 Post....

Hey, Tom... As you know, I grew up about a mile from Sam Schuler's service station on Chartiers ave. In fact, 4-5 years ago we were "cleaning house" when my Dad was moving out of Sheraden. We took a truck load of Powerglides down to Sammy and he bought them as cores. Love his orange '68!
Sammy's son had a nice '67 Chevelle, and I know Sammy used to race a hugger orange vega too.

Guess I need to tell ya .Tim & some of his buddies were there....I mentioned to him you and I talk weekly....he laughed and said ...he moved away... wtf.!
By the way, he cut his hair, trimmed out the 80's beard and ......OMG....LOST the LEATHER JACKET !

LMAO! Haven't heard from Tim in a while, although a mutual friend said Tim was up at Keystone racing his daily driver V6 Mustang a few weeks ago.

Tom... I never asked Sammy... how did he end up ordering Hugger Orange on a '68? That was a non-RPO color, and I didn't even think it was available on other models that year? I was told it was original paint as well, but I never really thought about the fact that this is more of a '69 color.

Never saw the "QuickSilver" car in person, so I don't know much about it. Seen pictures many times on the Olds site, and always wondered what they used to build the car......anybody know more about it?

Tom, Great pics. I remember that yellow Crivelli Chevy Camaro I think, and I used to pass Broughers every other day when I lived in Baldwin.
Do you happen to remember a red/burgundy mid-60's Mopar called "Daddy's Toy"? When we used to go to PID and then Keystone, he seemed to be there every time we went.
Also, that '68 Chevelle is one of the coolest Chevelles I've seen in a long time. I had a yellow and black '68 Chevelle SS before I moved to FL and sold it to a guy in North Baldwin who was going to redo it. Have you seen it around up there? It was an original red car with a black vinyl roof, and it was a 138 real SS.

HUGGER ORANGE IN '68 Was Available on Camaro known as the 'HUGGER" in Chevy advertising.
As well as the Chevelle line.
I'm not sure if he "Ordered the car or bought it off the lot. I'll ask.
Yes ! The car wears 100% Original paint .The Nose Stripe and Beltline is original as well......
The Schulers always pampered this car and are meticulous
with preservation and maintenance.
The Vega was immaculately prepared and raced .
Mark, look over the pics I posted and blow them up, you'll see Daddy's Toy....
The Yellow '68 was Butternut ? That came from Carlisle back in the 80's-90's with a 325 ?

Just found out my parents were there last night. If you saw a black '70 Chevelle 396 convertible with a red interior, that was them. Dad tells me the Chevelle is my inheritance. LOL

Yeah....Tim pointed out Mom & Dad !
Wth will you do with such a "Big Car"
You're better off to let me have it....lol
There was a Teal 66 Nova with a Jenkins Competition front plate.....too bad it had a 'cowl hood on it'

Tom, great pics, i always heard this was a great annual event!
Day2_69Z
07-23-2015, 03:58 PM
Oh yeah !
There were 2 Original Max Wedge original owner cars, a Real Thunderbolt 427 car. ..a 427 Factory lightweight Galaxie original owner car .
And even a Aluminum Nose Super Stock Dodge.
And many more......
The sad thing.....No Camaros other than a Garnet Red Z.....
Not a 1 ....of anything Camaro with substance.
In visiting home....you may wanna circle the date.
Its not a high in volume event but it sure has Quality. And the people who lived it....did it and paved the way for our continuing the "as Raced theme of today"
My Dad was there, always a hit with his "Memory of an Elephant" knowledge and stories.....that's what I cherish the most.
As we know. Western Pa, Pittsburgh area was One Serious Hot Bed for the players of the Day ! .
Any guidance you can help me & my wife with in visiting the Grand Canyon this fall ?
