Well, maybe not really. But that's my vision on this little pick'em up truck build I'm doing. I like the AD trucks and always thought it would be neat to build one that would replicate something more along the lines of a factory style conversion version versus a chromed out, slammed, Mustang II'ed, Speedway Motors catalog on wheels type of build. We've all seen the hotrods, but what about a factory look? So, I picked up pen and paper (actually, plasma cutter and 5lb. sledge) and set to work. I started with this 1949 3100 I bought off ebay for a mere $7K. It ran and drove, next to no rust, had an upgraded 235 over the 'bolt 216, and patina that would make any self respecting 50's pin-up model quiver. Down side? It smoked worse than a set of Hoosiers stuffed under a prostreet Chevelle, and I think you could tell exactly what the inside of the lower colon of a cackle (or is a pod...maybe a flock?) of rats smells like right at the moment of decomposition where the food actually turns into a solid again after going through the liquid and gaseous stages of digestion. So, stage one was to drive around the neighborhood with Kelly on the running board and then off to the old shop for a few mods.

Out to the shop it goes, and the 235 comes out and a 350/700R4 combo goes in. Since I'm doing this, the rear axle has to be swapped out as well. Here's the conversion package: 350/700R4 combo, CPP V8 swap package (x-members, mounts), a 1955 Truck Axle, and CPPs axle swap for AD trucks (moves the axle back 1" and includes new perches/bolts). Also, you'll have to make up a driveshaft but that's not that hard really. I found that gum and rubber bands really work well. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif The last picture shows the driver's side steering box won't clear the exhaust manifold once it's installed. I welded up a bracket and moved the steering box over 3" to clear the manifold. More on this later... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2015/07/full-18993-29672-img_4728.jpg

So, more on the steering. I found a set of early 70s SBC manifolds and the driver's side is curved right around the steering box perfectly! Just like I envisioned it and keeping with the factory appearance. This offset move the box out 3" from center, and as a result the intermediate drag link is not going to line up. I had a new one fabricated up with the original balljoint ends and the look is pretty convincing. Geometry stays the same too. The column will connect with u-joints. BUt we're getting ahead of ourself! One post at a time... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2015/07/full-18993-29675-img_4722.jpg

Oh, and that "75"? That's a large factory marking. I have a few other pics from others who have the same thing on their truck. Of course I'll replicate that, but in paint. That's actually bare metal (etched)!!!!

Of course I'm deleting all the small detail stuff, but I had some trimming of the inner fender to do as well as a bunch of other small stuff. I did decide to add one thing on the upgrade list and that was a dual bowl Corvette style master cylinder and disk brakes from CPP as well. I'm staying with manual, just because I enjoy not being able to stop a 3900lb rolling stamped steel icon of American made pride and watch the reactions of the bystanders as they view the impending disaster that is about to unfold before them. They look away, but morbid curiosity draws them back! So next was the ever popular torque-tubeious-removous. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif

Thanks Guys! It's been fun so far. Mike, Kelly says Hi!! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif OK, so onto the rear axle removal. The donor axle internals were in pretty rough shape, and the 49's were in surprisingly good shape. So, I swapped out gears and such and was able to make a single rear out of two. I measured about eleven times before tack welding the perches in. Then, knowing me, and knowing I always need that one little extra check, I measured again and everything seemed to line up. Hey, what's the worse that can happen? Severe drivetrain vibration? Offset wheels in the well? A skewed axle resulting in an unsafe truck? Well, sure? But seriously, what's the worse that can happen?!!?!? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif After that was done, I mounted up the disk brake kit from CPP. I also added tube shocks all around and ditched the lever style actuators.

And since I'm 1/1000th Italian, I figured a spaghetti nightmare was just what the doctor ordered for wiring. But actually, it's a 12 circuit universal kit and is all this little buggy needs. The column is a Speedway Motors tilt (meaning, a cheaper Ididit) and the wheel is a repro 1940 Ford. I wanted a tilt function but didn't want something too shiney and nice. This will get painted with the interior, and the wheel is a period correct, factory look. To make the column appear like it still has the three-on-the-tree look, I'll reuse the stock style shift lever. I know! So many worthless ideas. And now into the engine bay. All 6cyl Chevy motors in the trucks were Grey. I think the only ones Blue were the power glide models according to VCCA site. So, I figured a grey motor to mimic the 6cyl ones was the way to go! More detailing on that later. I have a few more tricks up my sleeve. Interior all wired up and ready to go! And I thought about the spare and came across a pattern to use for the fender mounted spare. My fenders are reallly solidw with no rust. So I'll fix that and take the plasma cutter to it! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2015/07/full-18993-29728-image.jpg

Once I zapped out the pattern, I flipped the piece over and tack welded it in place. Voila! Instant recessed fender. I'm pretty sure this is how the factory did it. If I calculate correctly, they'd at least get one fender done every day and a half, so that's not bad considering everything that has to be considered.
I had the radiator shop recore the stock radfiator to a 3-row and add V8 necks, so when you look in the engine bay you see an old Harrison radiator up front. A quick turn of the key, she fired up, and now I knew it was time to disassemble and start the finish work. My co-worker helped me get the body off. He's a good dude. Kind of quiet. Doesn't say much, and I don't pay him anything.

Finally!! PAINT!!!! This is the factory color of my truck, Mariner Blue. It's a really nice color and changes with light. Sometimes it apppears lighter, and other times dark, almost black. Really a sharp color and it reminds me of a Ford color called Washington Blue that I've always loved. So with the wheels painted I thought I'd give it a whirl at mouting the tires with tubes myself. I know! At the time, that seemed like a good idea, but after the first one and a visit to the hospital (well, two..I don't remember the first one) I thought maybe I should let the pros handle it. But nothing ventured, nothing gained!!!! It's actually not very hard to do. Here's how I do'ed it. (Insert very southern accent here): Git you a tube, a tire, and a freshly painted reum. Shove that whaeel down in that there tire, then use them fingers and shove that tube inside. Now, take yer tire iron and scrape up that nice fresh paint, scuff yer fresh white wall, and right when there's all the tension on that tire iron, let it slip back and smack you in the snotter. Then crack you open a beer for a job well done!

More PAINT!!!! I have all the bed pieces painted and decided to get them out of harms way, it would be best to mount them all up. So here's the bed on the truck and I couldn't be happier with how easy it went together. I used single stage paint mainly to mimic the older style finish. I sprayed it with my Devilbiss gun and it laid down extremely nice. I stained the wood to the bed and have an idea for a nice set of bed stakkes and rails to put on after the cab is mounted. The wood is protected by three heavy coats of Marine Spar Varnish. And a good shot of the engine finally done. I used decals from various years to get the appearance I was after. I used GMC Workmaster V8 valve cover decals too! Corbin spring clips, metal advance/choke line, glass bowl fuel filter, and the transmission I decided to paint flat black to make it appear at first glance as the old clunky, cast iron three-speed. All to look like a factory installation. No screw clips, Pertronix chrome coil, chrome traingular Edelbrock air filter. Just two more spark plug seperators to mount and then this is done. The Generator is actually a Power Master alternator disguised as a generator. I even added the tags. The whole harness inside the engine bay will be wrapped in the old tyme style asphalt coated cloth like the original had. So you won't see "L Park Light....L Park Light....L Park Light....." every three inches! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif In the front of the radiator is the trans cooler and an additional cooling fan. This will all be hidden by the front grille apron and grille. You'll never see it! This is where I stand now on the truck. I'll update here once a month from now on. My target completion time is at the end of ther year and I want to have the truck done for the Autorama in Dallas in February. Should have it done with no problem, but I'm pretty sure something will go wrong along the way. How's about them negative waves, Moriarity!!!

Thanks Guys!!! I appreciate the feedback. Pretty fun little build. So, back from a trip (or two) and got the bed all squared away. Next up will be the cab. I already did the metal work, so now it's onto the bodywork. Mainly filling in welding grinds and pitted metal for a smooth finish on the floors. By far the most aggravating, time consuming, and rewarding part of the job. I know one thing. After this (and then the Super Bee) I'm going to market my new exercise invention for all the daytime moms out there. It's going to be a series of sanding blocks of various lengths and continuous 80 to 400 grit. I can see it now..."Girls, are you flabby? Tired of your man looking at all the toned up, non-dusty women out there? Then grab Dave's Wonder Bars and get to work! Start out with the "sculptor" attachment (...that would be 80 grit) and then when you've attained the look you want, tone it up with the "ripper" attachment (...400 grit) and just let those reps start a flyin'!!! You'll be dusty and tone all at the same time! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif " Doomed to failure? I submit to you the Shake Weight...yuh huh, 'nough said.... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif

The little trap door to the right of the transmission tunnel hatch is a little access door for the new master cylinder. The black part on the lower side of the cab corner is scraped off undercoating that the blaster didn't remove, so I'll need to prime that. I am planning on using tinted bedliner on the underside and inside the fenders for durability and looks. Yeah, it's not 100% stock, but I think it'll be a nice addition. Hope to have this painted this month! More to come..

What angle did you set the pinion before burning in the perches? If you got that right, you should not have any vibration issues. Roger
A12pilot
08-25-2015, 08:46 PM
I set the pinion angle at 2 degrees before welding up the perches. The trans tilts down 2, so both offset each other. I know there's some axle wrap under hard acceleration, but we're not talking 700 HP here and I doubt it would be out even a degree at best. I'll be getting her running next month (I hope) so I'll see what happens then. If it's too bad, I'll sell for scarp, buy a beer, and take up another hobby like joining the "name that rash" club, or possibly enroll in an online debate forum. Where was I? Oh yeah, the progress! It continues with: sand, sand, sand....block, block, block...sand, sand, sand, sand...block, sand, sand...... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/frown.gif
Thinking I have it all straight, go home, crack beverage, and think, "Man, sure is nice that I don't have to pay anyone to do this! Think of all that money I'll save! Man, I could buy another car! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif" Then, come back out tomorrow and wonder what the heck I did all day yesterday, because it sure doesn't seem like I sanded anything and there's more waves in the body than on the Blatic. Wonder to self, "Self, why do you think you can do this? Why not hire someone? Why not sell everything and get into that rash finding club you previously mentioned?" So....sand...sand..sand....block..block...block... .itch, itch, itch...

Funny thing about block sanding. Just when you think it's smooth, some other something pops up somewhere else you hadn't noticed before and that makes you doubt the rest of the body! Enough is enough. I'm pretty sure I could sand on this until sometime in 2019. So into the boof it goes...

I use PPG paints, and this was single stage shot with a 1.5 tip out of my DeVilbiss. It calls for a 4:1:1, but I didn't use the reducer and it flowed nice. Shot the bed that way along with the wheels and very happy with the results. Booth is a pseudo - cross ventilation and it worked well keeping dust out and overspray hanging around was minimal. Sweat drips, on the other hand....:-(. I still need to hit this with some 1500-3000 and a light buff, but still happy with it.

So, in continuing on, it's time to take a break from bodywork and do some wiring. I hate it, you hate it, and nobody's good at it. But after doing various cars I think I have a very easy system to share that may help those guys out there that are intimidated by wiring up their own car. We'll start off by saying you want to have a plan. Even Christopher Columbus had a plan. "Imma Gonna saila that-a-waya." Maybe it wasn't the best plan, but it worked! So, step one is to lay out the harness and start routing wires. Don't be shy. If there's any open holes in the firewall, stick a wire through it. You'll eventually be drilling another hole somewhere anyway, so might as well go ahead and nip that problem in the bud now while your at the beginning.

With M22Mikey's inspiration, I decided to keep at it and eventually, all the wires ended up attached to something. Go figure, everything works!!! I know, I should just end here and sell it. But, seein's how I'm on the home stretch I might as well just finish it up. All the wiring is routed where it needs to be, and now that I tested it all I can go back and wrap it all up in the old tyme style asphalt covered cloth wrap. Inner fenders are painted and mounted up, and the gastank is in.

I added an old Delco style decal to the battery (which I mounted in the engine bay like a later style) and will be making a custom over for the top that'll feature the fill caps. With the inner fender mounted, I could route the wires where I wanted them to go and sort of see how the whole package is looking in the engine bay. Now, time to hide that heater valve and newer style heater...

Don't be worrying about the left over holes in the firewall, and the surface rust on the u-joint on the steering column. All will be taken care of! Sooooo..in wanting to make sure no aftermarket things are staring you in the face, I decided to hide the GenII Heat/Defroster behind the old beehive heater cover. Also, I mounted the heater control valve right beside the core and made a cover that's attached to the original one. I painted this in the old hammertone finish, and added the Recirc Decal too! I'll add another one that has the part number on it. Why not? I'm getting all dorky with mixing all the years up, might as well max out on the dorkness! I'm not sure if that's a word or not, so we'll move on. I mounted the controls for the heater in the dash and will eventually replace those knobs with the maroon ones that match the cowl vent and shifter handle. I think it'll tie in the whole dash. The column will be painted black. I just haven't gotten there yet!

The last picture is the stock heater. I'm not done with the details on the aluminum trim panels yet. I need to hand paint the logos on all three panels, then clearcoat it. The defroster ducts round up and out of the top of this heater cover so they aren't see when you look inside.

And since I have the '49 truck to finish up, my '69-1/2 A12 Super Bee to restore (with a deadline 1yr away!), and a mezzanine to build in the shop in December, what's one to do? Buy another truck, that's what!!!!! I found this little gem out in Denver and it's 100% rust free. It's the last year for the Art Deco style trucks, 1946. This just gets driven around until the Bee is done next year. Or I find a good Saginaw 4spd to swap into it to make it an easier driver. And paint so it's shiney....maybe some new bed side stake wood......a 12V conversion.....so yeah, nothing planned immediately. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/whistle.gif

Thanks guys! I was able to round out last month on a productive note with the interior just about buttoned up! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif The doors are complete minus the glass, window channels, and door panels. All that's left inside is the headliner, door panels, gas pedal, parking brake pedal, and to paint the steering column. I'm still searching out a radio and think I have it narrowed down to one.

I am digging this thread too! I have a 51 3100 basket case and like to see how these go back together. One question though, I thought the entire interior gets painted with something close to the seat fabric. Yours looks like primer. What's your plans for it?
A12pilot
10-02-2015, 01:23 PM
Thanks Guys! Kevin, the entire interior does get painted the same color (dash, floors, doors) but it doesn't match the seat upholstery. The door panels matched the seat upholstery, but the headliner did not. In your case, the 51 got a Dark Burgundy seat upholstery with either one of two interior shades: Medium Tan Metallic Chrome or Dark Tan Metallic Chrome. Any remnants in your interior to see what color it originally was is your best bet.
For me, I am using a little "artist interpretation" on the color. I decided with the Blue exterior and such, I wanted a lighter interior and I wanted the dash to have a tad more "pop" than a standard one does. Yet, I wanted the seat upholstery to be a contrast to the interior and the exterior as far as tone. I've seen these trucks with the same color everything inside and it just looked a little "blah" to me. My idea originally was a little bit more of a darker gray, and I was looking through the paint books at the supplier's store this gray is the one I chose based on the chip. It's a tad lighter than I thought after mixing, but now that I have it done it's not bad. It's single stage and yeah, almost has the same tone as the primer I used! But, the seat frame is a darker gray as will be the headliner and door panels. Not so much that they stand out, but just a soft tone difference that draws your eye in with more to look at. So couple that with the dark seat, a black floor mat, and blue dash and I think it'll tie in well.
I kept my idea with the interior panels not being all exact from a 68 Charger I restored a few years ago with a Metallic Blue interior. The interior parts were originally supplied from various vendors, so one supplier's Metallic Blue wasn't quite the same as another supplier's Metallic Blue. As a result, kick panels, door panels, A-pillar trim, were all various shades of Metallic Blue.
Hope that answers your questions!!! The VCCA has good info on the AD trucks, and there's plenty more info out there for sure. Now pick up the LMC Catalog and start into that truck!!!!! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Alrighty, so a few set back and a few advancements. Wiring complete: Key on and a crank for starting {pop} {CLUNK}. Hmmmmmmmmm...mmmhmmm. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/confused.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif This just all worked last week, I touched nothing, then come back a few days later and I'm greeted to a bowl of Rice Krispies (snap, crackle and pop). Oh, let me try this (wiggle, wiggle, tighten, loosen)...{pop} {CLUNK}. Hmmmmmmmm.....Well, that wasn't it. Oh, silly me, it was this thing right here. Let me get in here..and...(wiggle, loosen, tighten, kick)....{click, click} {POP} [CLUNK}. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif Well, that's all I know how to do, time to go home. So as tribute to Patton, I regrouped, pulled out what little knowledge I keep in my electrical encyclopedia, and then had another go at it. The result? SUCCESS!!! {VRRROOOMM!!!!!) As simple as it sounds, it was the addition of two more chassis/frame/engine ground wires that caused all the issues. I blame this squarely on M22Mike. Why I don't know, but I'm of the generation that it's never my fault and I have to blame someone, so it's on him! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif But then Lake Superior started to form on the intake manifold at the front two water jackets. So with that, A new direction for the engine: Power Pack time! I ordered an Edelbrock and matching Performer intake to remedy this leak. I pulled the intake and found two hairline cracks on both the front water jacket ports. Not sure how they got there, but no matter. After detailing up the new parts, the engine was back together and running good with no leaks! I made it look like an older Carter carb and now that's it's a 4bbl, it'll be a Power Pack optioned truck! Since I have a 700R4 in there, this provides a nice place to mount the TV cable as well. Something I was still pondering with the older intake. The heater hoses will be fastened with a few backets (the zip ties are just temporary right now). I think it all still ties in nicely. I removed the electric choke and will add the manual choke lever that routes to the dash, and then wrap the harness up. Time for some bodywork...

Oh, and before I forget, that large "75" was on the firewall when I got the truck and was actually etched into the paint. I have seen various numbers on the firewall from AD trucks built from the Janesville Plant. What they mean, I'm not sure, but I added the number back so before and after photos still have the number there! Alrighty, from a previous thread, someone commented about Yenko.Net ID tags for this year's upcoming MCACN show. In keeping with being Green and helping out the Planet Earth and all, I never took mine off from last year. Matter of fact, I still have my MCACN lanyards and tickets too!
Dave -- was that a PPG single-stage urethane, acyrlic enamel, etc. ??

I took a break from blocking out the dinner table that is the hood, and started to get a '51 3100 I built a few years ago for a friend ready for the Autorama here in Houston the weekend of Thanksgiving. Busy week! MCACN the weekend prior, then the Autorama the weekend after!! SO MUCH FUN!!! So the '51 is was a custom build: boxed frame using my own CNC designed frame rails, Mustang II front end, S-10 4x4 rear axle on custom perches using Mopar 440-Hemi leafs, 5.3 Vortec from an '06 Tahoe, 4L60E trans, PS, PDB, A/C, Tilt, I made the console to have a unique feature using the old Beehive heater cover and installed power ports and the I-Pod jack for the radio in the doors. I designed the bedside wood and it's rolling on Diamondback Radials on 15" Artilley wheels. It's Base/Clear, and I will be cutting and buffing it next week. It needs a few things detailed up before the show, but it's all minor stuff. Not sure what hapenned with the column, but it started to flash rust. Funny, since it's satin with a clear coat.<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif Oh well, time to sand it down and paint it!!! Enjoy!

Thanks Guys! Alrighty, back to progress. Running boards and splash shields mounted up! I'm going with a polished stainless step plate, but I'm not sure where to install it on the running board. I figure I'd ask everyone in my little shop complex to help out. I'll let them all enter the truck and see where the majority step on the running board to enter the vehicle. Now, taking into account who's bias to what lead (do they step first with the right foot, or the left?? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif ), the demographics of the people in the shop (Those Dodge guys don't seem right..so not sure how reliable there data may be. And then there's the Buick people.... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/whistle.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/whistle.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif ), and of course, the Earth's rotation with the Corrioulous effect thrown in for good measure, that should give me a good idea as to where the step plate should be. Or, I'll just see where all the scratches wind up and put it there so I don't have to paint the running board again! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

You can also see that the front bumper filler panel and running board splash guards have been wetsanded and I was just getting ready to pick up the buffer. There was more trash in those things than the public landfill!!! But, once down to 3000 grit, it's all out and smoooooottthhh! Also, parking brake is installed, cables routed, and everything hooked up. I also trimmed up the floor mat. I need to still install the sill plates and floor mat extensions, and also, I'll be adding some carpeted floor mats with stays so they don't slide around too much. I'm pretty certain they never came with them, or if they did they were probably a .70 cent option, but I think it'll finish off the floor nicely!

We landed from MCACN Monday, and Tuesday I loaded up and headed downtown for the Autorama here in Houston. This is my set up for the 1951 3100 I built for a friend a few years back. He's not doing very well health wise, so I took the time to enter this truck into the show this year to lift his spirits! I really don't care if I win anything except a big smile on his face!!!

The vineyard, crates of wine bottles, and the pail of corks in the bed all have LEDs in them for some added pop. His callsign in the USAF was "Rocket" so I stenciled in "Rocket Winery" on the sides of the crates and made it look as if it was branded in with a hot iron. Hope you like! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Well, of course there will be Mike. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif I don't think it'll move quite as fast as this one did since I started it about halfway through the build, but I gotta start something on it. It was good seeing you again too as well as Phil, Gordy, Rich, and BIG (and of course, all the wives too!).
And Bruce, pleasure seeing you too and awesome job on those pictures!!!! I'll have to hit that thread everytime I feel as though I miss the MCACN show which is, ummm...right about now!!!! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif

Time to turn my attention to the bed side wood. Add with all the trucks I've done, it's my own design that I think looks great against the lines of the truck. So with saws out and the First Aid kit standing by, I started the assembly.

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2015/12/full-18993-35571-dscn0850.jpg
As you can see, precise measurements and exact dimensions and tools need to be used here. ..

..and after I fabricated up a throttle linkage and made it appear factory-like, I took her out for the maiden spin! Well, a quick trip around the shop building. Tomorrow I go for the exhaust and hopefully the radio and hood emblems come in! Not much left! Woohoo!

Of course since I had planned on getting the truck finished last week before I headed out on a trip, it didn't get done. But isn't that par for the course with anything classic automotive related? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif The exhaust took 2 days instead of 3hrs like planned (parts, installer got sick), but no matter. It's on and love it! I ran the head pipes down to a "Y" pipe, then a single 2" pipe out the back through the stock cannister style muffler in the original hanger mounting spot. I exited the pipe out just forward of the bumper below the rear valance. So with that out of the way, I'll start staining the wood, wrapping the harness under the truck, and take care of the loose ends here and there. The out comes the wetsander and buffer! More to come this weekend!!! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics/usergals/2015/12/full-18993-35974-image.jpg

Alllllllrighty.......it's been a busy last few weeks, and I'm happy to say other than a few backordered items (radio knobs, cowl vent knobs, battery tray hold down, and two hood side ornaments....and a few engine bay grommets I still need to size) the truck is DONE!!!! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif From start to finish, this was a 1yr build. I did 100% of everything except the exhaust. And that included mounting the tires with tubes! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif Paint, rust repair, stitches to my calf (general purpose solvent makes an excellent sterilizer!), balm application to a nasty weld burn, and of course, tool extraction from.....well...just know it's out! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/frown.gif Soooo, now it's onto test driving! I've done a little around the complex and so far no overheating, the 700R4 shifts in all gears, and the brakes work excellent with the big disks up front. This truck turned out 100% how I envisioned it (scary!) and I'm ready to start driving it and have some fun, er, fix stuff that starts breaking. I think my wife is pretty much tired of having LMC catalogs in every bathroom, table, the couch, the fridge, and I think possibly one got in the pantry somehow!!?!? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif

And I nabbed Best In Show/First Place! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif I'm crazy pumped, man!
