0-60 in 5.4 seconds

1320 is over in 14.0

Looks like the base model is now as fast as or faster than the beloved benchmark years of 1967-74 even in a day 2 configuration-excepting slicks of course.

It's truly impressive what they can manage with newer technology. However, I'm sure driving an "unrefined" 1969 Camaro running 14.0 is a whole lot more fun than driving a 2016 Camaro running 14.0.

The refined nature of the new cars makes great performance somewhat boring. Even though the older muscle cars weren't as fast as much of the new stuff, they feel fast because they are so crude in comparison. A lot more exciting to be banging gears in a 14.0 second 1969 Z/28 than in a boring new car that any girl could drive to a 14.0 1/4 mile time while chatting on the iphone. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif

Of course, you guys know this, or you probably wouldn't be on this forum.

The only traction control the 69' had was behind the steering column. Many of these new "tech driven" machines will make a Bob Glidden out of anyone. TAZ

Hopefully GM will not do any commercials where some chick in a 16 turbo 4 cylinder lines up against any stock early Z at a stoplight.

Only took a quick half century for that to happen;)

Nothing like naturally aspirated horsepower....turbo cars don't set you back in the seat !! A Holley carburetor does ! When you use yesterday's style to create today's power ...you are enjoying seat time ...waiting for another pass ! And when it gets to collectible to drive ....slam it down into second !

My Sons 14 Camaro convertible is a 6 banger with twin turbo's from IPS in Columbus, OH, exhaust and a tune. It runs 12.5's consistent even with a convertible rear gear.

He has a 1LE with 3.91's in it, I can't wait to see what that does.

I agree that the newer cars don't quite have the "experience" factor that the classics do.

Then again he can drive his to the track listen to his XM, soaking up the AC, let it cool, then race. Let it cool, then drive it home.

Just think most of us can recall an 81 Z28 with the first generation computer. An item that you generally had to tear out before it failed...and here we are 34 years later the technology I hated as a kid now makes modern muscle brutally fast and the basic version very fast.
