I am buying an old Hot Rod from a guy in Canada, I was planning on taking my trailer and heading north, what problems, if any might I run into bringing it back to the states? Paper work?, taxes? or who to contact to find out more info, THANKS

I have not done this personally, but an American friend recently came up with a trailer and bought a Beaumont in Ontario, close to me and had no issues and I checked with him as soon as he crossed the border on the way back home and he paid nothing at the border. I have not asked him if he had to pay our 13% tax?

If you want, PM me and I can get his contact info to you, I don't want to share rumours.

The disparity is unreal we pay big time at the border if we import US cars:-(

Is there a Vin and what paperwork is being provided also is there a title for the vehicle?
You will need paperwork in hand at border w/ the car also best is send Vin and all info on ahead by email/fax to Canada & US border stations you plan to cross at least 48 hours before going through.
Think and plan ahead also be sure of cash limits allowed to be on your person when crossing into Canada including exchange rate factor.
Where in Canada are you going as others here may be able to help you if necessary?
Best of luck w/ everything!

you pay nothing at the border. you pay your state tax when you title it.

call 716-843-8502 customs ask to talk to Paul Peachey he can tell you what you need.
tell him its an old hot rod because newer cars have to have a letter of compliance from the manufacture.
also tell him where you will be crossing. and he'll tell you if you can cross at anytime and get checked or 8 to 5 only.
