Notice color availability does not include the LS-6 - why?

Funny thing is, there is at least one Citrus Green LS6's that is very well known.

What a bizarre exclusion

Not regular RPO colors for LS-6 but i would think you could get around that with special paint order. Maybe those colors were only available at plants that made fullsize and chevelles. were LS-6 CHEVELLES built at all the plants chevelles were built?

perhaps they used cheap paint and the LS6 went too fast and caused it to prematurely peel off the car....

Perhaps <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif Or maybe they didn't want their highest-horsepower rocket ship looking like a fridge on display at Sears, in basically the same colors. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/shocked.gif

My guess would be the design people didn't think those colors looked hipo enough for the image they were trying to project.

With two exceptions, Oshawa did not build any solid lifter cars (LS6) and convertibles were only built at the Baltimore, Van Nuys and Leeds plants.

Or the marketing guys. Or both.

Rick - as I recall the TT on that CG LS6 had &quot;43 43&quot;. Do you remember that? I also recall that the car was supposedly an original paint car but had been taken off the frame to restore all else.

It was not original paint....however correct it was taken of the frame....frame and suspension restored. Done by a very good restorer in Central IL.

One must be careful with the prior owner....as he may throw down his hat and stomp his feet <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif

Not buying the color theory at all. I guess Gobi Beige was good enough for the LS6, but Nugget Gold was not? If color was so important, they should have made Monaco Orange an RPO.

There's gotta be a simpler, more logical explanation. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/scholar.gif

Was it plant related? Were the special colors available only at plants that for some reason did not build LS6 cars? Did every plant build LS6 cars? I can see them not having the special paint at every manufacturing facility.

No it wasn't plant related.
Only 1 of the 7 Chevelle assembly plants,(Oshawa),didn't assemble the LS-6.The other 6 did &amp; most likely had access to the color code #43 CG.
The Millers Citrus Green LS-6 is a special order paint car,and does not show code #43 on the it's trim tag.
Also,if you flip that color chart page over,it shows available interior colors for those exterior colors.Green is not one of those recommended colors...The Millers CG LS-6 has a green int.

Couldn't one ask the same question about the other restrictions? (convertibles, wagons and El Camino)?

I agree Diego. I was just having some fun with my &quot;fridge&quot; comment. We have all seen Citrus Green 1970 Z28s and Caramel Bronze is/was a (rare) 1970 Corvette color; doesn't get more high-perf than those two cars - so the exclusion because of a &quot;high-performance model&quot; does not hold water.

I don't know anything about LS-6 Chevelles, but could it have to do with them not being able to come up with a good looking hood stripe color to match those 4 colors? IF the hood stripes were optional on other than LS-6s, was that option also deleted from those colors?
Just throwing it as out an idea. I don't know if the hood stripes were standard on LS-6s or not.

D88 stripes were an option. With black or white being the two available colors they would go with pretty much any color. One would think that some of those colors could have been offered with no stripe option if they thought they would clash.

Black goes with everything Verne, including CG, and, yes, stripes were available on an LS6 Chevelle:

Nugget Gold and Camaro Gold also share the same paint code in 1970 - code 53

I was chatting with a friend about this and he posed these questions:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Did Oshawa build everything that the spring color(s) were available on?

Does anyone have a spring special painted mid- or full-size Chevy not from Oshawa? </div></div>
