nieghbor found this in his shed. Was in a crate..wrapped in tar like cloth. anyone know what it is?

My guess... US Navy spare motor for a generator unit.

My dad had the same motor on a tiller. Good runner.

they ran equipment like generators and on and on..ive seen them in chippers, in early bobcat type machines etc..they where adapted to everything that needed a motor
