For sale: 1968 L78 Nova. Complete born with driveline with POP. Sequoia Green with Ivy Gold cloth bench seat interior. 1 of 167 produced with the M22 transmission.
12 bolt 3.55 posi rear. Very solid dry Midwest body...NOS GM quarters installed many years ago. I have a ton of NOS and rare original parts [too much to list]..also have a 'complete' 6,000 mile interior out of a granny Nova...showroom condition.

Car is in primer...needs finish work and paint.

If you remember Jason Hale's Sequoia Green 68...this is the same color. Jason helped me go thru the car awhile back and we took detailed photos and sorted out all the original parts...he was a great help <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/worship.gif

I have never seen another 68 4 speed L78 Nova with the factory driveline and paperwork...I'm sure one is out there, but I've never seen it....Sold new at Bill Campbell Chevy in Alliance, Nebraska. The original owner still lives at the same address as the POP.

I have a great collection of photos, extensive list of parts and information available for serious buyers...please call or email. Asking $65,000

I never dreamed I'd run across a car from my hometown of Alliance Nebraska on this board. In fact, I was just given some items from this dealership that came from my Grandparents. Alliance is in the middle of the panhandle and on the western edge of the sandhills. Ranchers to the East, Farm boys to the West and railroaders in town. All with nothing to do or to spend their money on other than cars. Lots of horsepower out there. The Mopar dealer even sold a couple of Hemi cars.

Good luck with the sale !

Update 4/30/16...with a little help from Jason Hale the nose is back on the car. We sorted out the parts again to get things better organized. I spoke to the former owner recently and he refreshed my memory on a few of the details on the car. [it has an interesting history <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif] The car will be moved soon to the main shop for ease of access...engine is headed to the machine shop for a 'tech check' and dyno run...M22 tranny has been gone thru and has a clean bill of health.

I will prepare another photo shoot with all the parts, 6k mile interior and paperwork, stampings, etc. If you know someone who wants a rare car...this is it. 1 of 167 1968 L78 Novas that were equipped with an M22.

More to follow..thanks

WOW!!! I love sequoia green, for 68 olds I think the color was charcoal grey or something.
Sequoia Green being an almost a gunmetal grey with just a touch of green OVER the ivy gold... AWESOME!!!

I went and got my 68 dealer album out...

Sequoia green is such a unique color. It was used on a lot of full size cars. X2 for Sequoia green with ivy gold interior it just looks great. Remember Tom has a complete Ivy gold interior from a low mile 68 car. The Ivy gold interior actually has three shades of different green/gold throughout the interior. It’s very hard to replicate these colors. This was my old sequoia green 68 L78 Toms car doesn’t have a vinyl top and is a bench seat car.
I dyed my dash pad, kick panels, metal dash and A pillars ivy gold they actually supposed to be a shade of green.

Perhaps this information will help some of you 'fence sitters' make a move.

As you all know, the 68 Nova is a one year only car in many ways and as such, requires a good working knowledge of the unique details. We are fortunate to have a 68 expert whose skills and quality of work are well known to the site members here...Jason Hale.
Jason lives a little north of me, but close enough by country standards to be considered a neighbor <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

Jason has demonstrated his talents on 2 different 68 Novas that have been featured here...his 68 L78 [same color as mine] and the Fathom Blue L79 which was a feature car in Hemming's Muscle Machines and even made a trip to BJ in Florida.

Jason has agreed to do the restoration on the 68 L78 if the new owner is so inclined. I will also help the process by adding in a few extras to help make the deal even easier.

1..I will pay for transportation to Jason's shop

2..I will pay for a 'check-up' and 'freshening' of the motor at my shop, Boyd's Motorworks...Jack did the L78 in our Autumn Gold 70 and the L79 in Barry Volkert's 65 Chevelle...his work is first rate. This will include transportation to and from his shop and delivery to Jason. **Note the engine was done professionally before I bought the car..it has been in climate controlled storage, oiled and turned over periodically. I'm sure everything is fine...but, this car is all about the motor, so I want the purchaser to have complete confidence.

3...I will store the 6,000 mile original interior in our shop until it is time for the install. This way it won't be in Jason's way and it will be safely protected.

4...I will also help by providing [no charge] any minor parts, bolts, hardware, etc. that Jason made need during the restoration. There are always little odds and ends that come up...if I have them I'll be happy to help out. We have a shop full of parts [like most of you guys]...they might as well go to a worthy cause.

5...I will also provide the new owner with all the info and history I have on the car, including details from numerous phone calls with the original owner.

I would like to see this car go to a good home and it would also be nice to be part of the restoration process. I have no doubt the car will turn out great in Jason's capable hands. This car may not be 1 of 1...but, it's damn close. I have never seen another 68 L78/M22 Nova, with born with driveline and documentation...if it's out there, it must be hiding <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif

So, there you have it...call me..email me..send a PM..or drop by for a visit. Let's get this car up to Jason and get things started...should make for a hell of a build thread on the SYC <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/burnout.gif

Thanks, Tom

With the help of my neighbor Billy we got the 68 L78 moved to the main garage. We didn't have a power winch....took a little longer with a come-along <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/tired.gif

Anyway, it is now safe and sound and 'resting' next to its other Nova relatives <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif

This a solid car...all we need is new home <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

I've been working on updating a website for this car to help with the presentation. Eventually the site will include a gallery of our other cars [past/present], cool Nova stories and a section with parts for sale. In the meantime, it features the 1968 L78 we have available. I'm working on a slideshow of additional photos which will be posted very soon.

Thanks, Wilma

I have had some inquires about the car and some folks expressed an interest in a turn key solution that included a 'reasonably firm' price on the finished product. After reviewing this with Jason I am happy to try and make this a package deal for the finished car. Of course, what someone may want for the finished product is subject to some discussion.

Perhaps you want a Day 2 look?? or maybe just a nice high end driver?? I have a collection of Day 2 parts including headers, tires, ignition, traction bars, valve covers, etc. So, there are lots of possibilities.

If this type of approach interests you, let me know and we can work it out so it is fair for all concerned.

Well...it was a 3 hour project, but I finally 'un-wrapped' and 're-wrapped' all of the interior parts for the 68 L78. I forgot how much stuff there was <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/drool.gif
This is really a complete package. A few items will need a little cleaning, but overall everything is really in super shape...considering these parts are almost 50 years old!

It would be great if someone got this car going and did a 50th Birthday display to kick it off.

Any questions...let me know.

Just a little update on our 68 L78...I appreciate the inquiries we have received on the car and the positive feedback. Since winter is coming, I thought a little bump was in order. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

As mentioned we are happy to help with restoration thru Jason or another shop of your choice. I will also consider a 'Holiday Law-a-Way' arrangement for a serious buyer. Make a deal to buy the car now...give me a 10% deposit and we can finish the transaction sometime after the holidays are over and there is time to focus on the project. Meantime it will be in climate controlled storage...high, dry and safe.

I realize this is a unique car...and 68's are a 'one year only' model and may not be right for everyone...but, this car is the real deal...born with driveline, paperwork and it is an M22 car!

Please feel to reach out with questions about the car anytime. We are happy to provide a time for a personal inspection...hopefully before the snow comes <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif

Well...the 68 L78 car turned 51 last week...maybe not exactly on the 4th, but close enough. Trim tag says 07A....it was built during the same time frame as the Gibb COPO units.

Thought I would move it back in view for those who haven't seen this ad before.

Happy to answer questions or provide additional info if needed...and as for the price...happy to discuss that as well

I was at the shop this morning working on some storage logistics for this winter. We will be moving all the cars around to clean up the shop and make more room.

SO....before this special Nova is tucked away for its winter nap...thought I would move it to the top of the list for your consideration.

Happy to schedule a time for anyone to come and see this rare Nova and check it out...

No drama with this car...legit born with drive-line...POP and a ton of NOS and original parts.

Socially distant offers [when your standing 6 feet from the car] are welcome

Hope everyone is having a nice Labor Day holiday.:flag:

... Tom knows these novas in and out.

... I am sure that it is hard to comprehend how many great parts come with this car and I am sure that a serious buyer owes it to himself to go view this nova in person. I have always found that negotiating in person once you have viewed the car and all the parts is always better then by phone or on line because you get to meet the person and get the whole story of what this car is all about.

... I have always found that everyone is negotiable in person.

... Good luck with the sale :flag:

Good morning...

Here is a quick update on our 68 L78 Nova SS.

We moved the car to our home shop for easier viewing by interested buyers. I have been sorting and organizing NOS parts and other items for the car. Since the heart of this beast is the L78 engine, I took it to our machine shop for a checkup. It was rebuilt a number of years back and after a thorough inspection, cleaning and refresh of a few things we ran it on the dyno.

So we now have a 'clean bill of health' for this rare and BORN WITH engine...I will post dyno video and paperwork as soon as I can figure that out :hmmm:

Results were impressive;

424.8hp @ 5900rpm 429.5ft/tq @3600rpm

Our guy is Jack Boyd, Boyd's Motorworks in Gloversville, NY...he did a shout out to Eric Jackson who did the 4053 Holley..."Tom, your carb guy is awesome!"

More to follow...wilma :3gears:

Tom,
out of curiosity , was the motor dyno'ed with dyno headers and a dyno double pumper ?
my L78 made the same numbers on a dyno we used the above mentioned hardware .
thanks Rich B

Engine is all stock...carb is factory 4053 VS...rebuilt by Mr. Jackson :worship:

Nothing fancy...we used standard dyno headers.

Picked up the engine this week from Jack Boyd....

Jason Hale was very kind to help with the install...we had a few 'hydraulic' problems, but nothing we couldn't handle.

Engine is back where it belongs.

Many thanks to Jason, he is a great car guy and friend :worship::worship::worship:

Our 68 L78 Nova has found a new home with a great car guy. We have owned this rare car for 20 years...glad to see it will finally get finished. Hope to see it at MCACN one of these days.
