I would first like to thank Bob and all the guys who put on this awesome show. This is my favorite car event of the year! I drove in from Indiana on Saturday morning and luckily it was still warm enough that the snow was melting when it hit the pavement. I was at the show from 9 to 9 on Saturday and 9 to 5 on Sunday and still could have spent more time looking at everything. I stayed at the Crowne Plaza and it was a 10 minute walk from my room to the show entrance. When it comes to photography I'm more of a quality than quantity guy so here are my favorites from the show.
I will start with the Hemi convertible E-Body display. It was awesome to see so many of these cars in one place.
There were 13 of the 18 Hemi Cuda convertibles from 1970 present.
T. Thurling's EW1 Alpine White car has a TorqueFlite and was originally sold in OH. It was a tubbed and caged racecar with a supercharged Hemi before it was restored. It was missing it's fender tag and there were no build sheets found so it was restored with a white interior. Galen G. later found the original dealer invoice at the selling dealer and it was determined the car originally came with a black interior.

Great pictures and love the details on each car.
A couple comments: 1. Those Stage 1 Buicks are some of the nicest looking cars there and really make you wonder why more weren't sold, and 2. Is there anything more sinister looking than an LS-6 Chevelle in triple black?

You're welcome Verne! Thanks for putting together the 409 display. The 409 cars are some of my favorite's. When I was a kid back in the early 80's there used to be a 62 Impala SS 409/409 that would show up at our local track on occasion. It was Tuxedo Black with a red interior and was an unrestored car that had been raced in the 60's. It ran mid 12's and was owned by R. Kopanski. I always enjoyed watching that car run and have liked 409 cars ever since then.

And here is what it looked like in 1986 at the Musclecar Nationals. It had a full black interior back then.

L. Robinson's Regal Red 66 is an original L78 car that was sold new at D. Heinrich Chevrolet in Lockport NY. It came with an M21 and 4.10 gears and was a race car early in it's life. Luckily the original engine survived and is in the car today.

Verne, are you referring to the ram air setup that was on the car with the air inlets where the high beam lights used to be? That car was featured in the January 84 issue of Super Chevy. He had chrome valve covers and air cleaner from a 63 on it and I think it had a Pontiac rear as well. I believe Rich was from Michigan City IN. I remember he used to get air under the front tires when he launched it.

Those are some cool vintage photos Steve. I still have the Musclecar Review that your car was featured in back in 86. Most kids used their allowance on comic books, but I used mine on car magazines. Your old car is probably the most famous of all the Hemi E-Body convertibles due to the Nash Bridges TV show.

Fantastic pics mrays. Thank You. Keep 'em coming! A small correction to one of your captions on the black stripe-delete LS6: D. Beem's 4300-mile LS6 has a floor-shifted M22 4-speed. Dennis Cumby's similar black LS6 is a column-shifted automatic.

Thanks. You shoot some great photos. What camera did you use? It is always difficult to get good photos in any area lit with industrial lighting (mercury vapor lamps, etc). You did a great job. Modern digitial cameras are so much easier to use than the old Canon T90 I used to use.

A few tid-bits....
The 70 Red/Red Hemi rag is the first one built. Served as the model for the Franklin Mint car. Belonged to Wayne Hartye for years.

The original owner had installed spot lights on the fenders. I think they might have been removed by Rich when I saw it in '83 but the holes were still there in the dash. Rich had early photos of it with them on. Just something guys did back then. I don't remember the details on the rear but I remember drooling over the originality of that car.
I could elaborate more on the car and the event in '83 but I don't want to stray from your show coverage thread.

Steve, I use a Nikon Coolpix P600. I was shooting with a slower shutter speed and fill flash. That's why the people walking in the background are blurry. I don't use a tripod either, but I have the vibration reduction on. I've only had this camera for a little over a year and am still learning about all the features it has.
Des, I have in my notes that Dave's LS6 was an M22 car. I was thinking about Cumby's car when I said it was a column shift car. Since both cars are non cowl induction cars weren't stripes an option? I think it would only be considered a stripe delete car if it was a cowl induction car since those came with stripes.

Exactly right.
Both have the std. Super Sport pckg. & aren't considered stripe delete, cause you can't delete something they never had.

Thank you for all the great pictures and write ups. I was there, but this is the perfect link to send to all the people I'm trying to convince to join me next time. One question- do Mustangs and Fords exist in the MRAYS universe or are they just considered obstacles to getting good pictures of things next to them? ( ;-) lol)

It was Tuxedo Black with a red interior and was an unrestored car that had been raced in the 60's. It ran mid 12's and was owned by R. Kopanski. I always enjoyed watching that car run and have liked 409 cars ever since then. </div></div>

I've got a question about this car.
The "Hockey Stick" stripe was not standard on the 'Cuda, so it ordinarily would not have an V68 code to signify a stripe-delete.
So could this be a quirk with the first day of production?

Good question. I need to look at some original tags for non-striped 70 'Cuda's. I know there will be a blank under the "V" box on the broadcast sheet....no "8"

Thanks guys! I'm glad you appreciate my efforts. I have posted photos of all the cars I took pictures of. With limited time I was just trying to take photos of my favorite cars. There were a number of cars I wanted to take photos of but didn't for various reasons. Also, sorry but Fords and Mercury's don't exist in my universe. Not that there's anything wrong with them. To answer John's question, I believe the 62 Impala Verne and I were talking about was originally owned by Bob Zezula. Also, on the stripe delete Cuda convertible, there was a V68 on the fender tag. In reading the auction description of the car it said that the V68 wasn't used on the fender tag once production began. Since this is a pilot car there were probably other anomalies as well.

Well.....since the F-tag was keyed to the Broadcast sheet......I would have to look at both. Either this is a factory boo-boo....or an incorrect re-pop tag. Unlike the Challenger (and other Dodge's) the stripe was not standard on a 'Cuda. A Challenger would have the delete code.

Jake,
I have some personal experience with a '65 L-78. My best buddy in high school had one for a while. We changed the clutch in it outside on the ground with 6" of snow and a blowing 20deg snowfall at 1am in his back yard. We ran the engine as long as possible for heat under the car while we were doing it. Of course, we were also fortified with our own antifreeze at the time. Everything turned out fine.
